As you dive into Phase 5 of WoW MoP Classic, you are likely eager to be among the first to explore its most engaging and challenging content.

However, accessing this content, and succeeding in it, relies entirely on your character being sufficiently powerful and your personal gameplay skills being reliable enough for the task.

With this in mind, and to help you integrate more quickly into the game's more difficult content, Phase 5 introduces a new solo-centric feature: Proving Grounds.

Based on your specific role (DPS, Tank, or Healer), you can enter these trials to hone your techniques and improve your performance.

Below, we provide all the essential information you need to know before entering Proving Grounds, along with role-specific guides tailored to each specialization.

What are Proving Grounds?

Among the various mechanics introduced in MoP Classic, there is a story-driven game mode known as Scenarios, which allows groups of up to three players to team up and participate. Proving Grounds can essentially be thought of as a solo version of these Scenarios.

Regardless of your class or role, you will encounter four distinct difficulty levels within Proving Grounds: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Endless. Each difficulty level presents waves of enemies that you must defeat within a specific time limit:

Once you have reached the maximum level and feel confident in your ability to handle the challenge, you can access Proving Grounds by speaking with your class trainer or by finding Master Rotun at Temple of the White Tiger in Kun-Lai Summit.

It is worth noting that the purpose of Proving Grounds is to hone your operational skills; therefore, it does not offer gear or other material rewards. The only reward available, granted upon clearing 30 waves of enemies at Endless difficulty level, is a title:

Additionally, clearing specific numbers of enemy waves across the various difficulty levels will unlock corresponding achievements:

Interestingly, if you complete an objective that does not pertain to your assigned role during Silver difficulty trial, for instance, if you are playing a tank specialization but deal a sufficient amount of damage, you can unlock the special achievement: You're Doing it Wrong.

General mechanics

While certain mechanics, such as enemy types or combat strategies, may vary slightly depending on your assigned role, there are several universal mechanics that all players should master.

First, upon entering Proving Grounds, the item level of all your equipped gear will be uniformly scaled down to 463. Furthermore, all set bonuses and special gem effects are completely disabled.

However, this does not mean you must rely solely on your gear and abilities to survive within Proving Grounds; the system has placed several NPCs within the arena, each serving a distinct function:

In addition to the items provided by Furnisher Echoroot, you may also bring your own flasks and food; however, other types of consumables are not permitted.

Given this, it's best to buy WoW MoP Classic gold from IGGM. This ensures you can always acquire supplies, whether by getting them from the auction house beforehand or trading with NPCs, whenever you need them.

Upon reaching the entrance to Proving Grounds, speak with Master Rotun to begin the challenge. If you find yourself overwhelmed during the trial, simply speak with him again to exit.

DPS tips

If you are a DPS player, the primary objective of Proving Grounds is to push you to unleash your maximum potential within a limited timeframe, thereby helping you improve your positioning and damage output capabilities in combat.

Consequently, enemies in these encounters will not deal damage to your health points; however, if the timer runs out before you have cleared the enemies, the attempt is naturally considered a failure.

In the first three difficulty tiers, the initial wave of enemies lasts for 30 seconds, while the duration of subsequent waves gradually increases. In Endless difficulty, every wave lasts for 60 seconds.

Occasionally during the trial, a Berserking buff will appear; utilizing it allows you to boost your damage output by 30% for a short duration.

If you feel the current encounter is easy enough that you do not need the buff, you may choose to save it to help you handle more difficult waves later on.

There are 8 distinct types of enemies that can appear in DPS Proving Grounds, though all 8 types only appear in Gold and Endless difficulty tiers:

• Amber-Weaver
• Banana-Tosser
• Banshee
• Guardian
• Mystic
• Sha
• Slayer
• Varmint

It is worth noting that for every role, regardless of the specific enemy type, there exist two versions: Small Illusionary and Large Illusionary. The former possesses lower health and deals less damage than the latter.

Healer tips

As a healer, your role in Proving Grounds is to learn how to heal your teammates efficiently, promptly, and accurately. To this end, the game provides you with four NPC teammates.

Your sole objective is to ensure that everyone of them remains alive by the time the encounter concludes. Proving Grounds challenges of this type feature six enemy types; their spawn patterns mirror those found in DPS Proving Grounds:

• Aqualyte
• Conqueror
• Flamecaller
• Hive-Singer
• Ripper
• Tunneler

Tank tips

As a Tank in Proving Grounds, you will be joined by an ally named Sikari the Mistweaver, who possesses capabilities for both healing and damage output.

You must devise a strategy to ensure the survival of both yourself and Sikari in order to successfully complete the challenge. The following is a list of all potential enemy types you may encounter:

In WoW: Mists of Pandaria Phase 5, with the official opening of the mysterious Timeless Isle zone, a reputation faction purely built on player willpower - Emperor Shaohao - made its debut.

Unlike traditional reputations, Emperor Shaohao's reputation is primarily based on killing mobs on Timeless Isle. More importantly, it's a long journey entirely about vanity. Because advancing this faction's reputation rank doesn't provide any substantial gear buffs or additional Valor Points rewards, only cosmetic items that offer no improvement to a character's combat stats.

The sole motivation for countless players to relentlessly slaughter Yaungol in WoW Classic MoP Timeless Isle is to unlock the mount representing ultimate glory: Reins of the Heavenly Golden Cloud Serpent upon reaching Exalted reputation.

Acquiring this mount is no easy feat, as Emperor Shaohao is arguably one of the most time-consuming reputation-building attempts since WoW Classic MoP Phase 5. But are we doomed to endless, agonizing grind? Actually, mastering some techniques can significantly improve your Exalted progress!

Prerequisite: Unlock Legendary Cloak

Before venturing to Timeless Isle, a crucial prerequisite is that at least one character on your account has completed Legendary Cloak questline.

This is because accessing the core area of ​​northern Timeless Isle - Ordon Sanctuary - requires crossing a broken bridge. Without Legendary Cloak, you'll miss out on the area's high-value elite mobs.

Some players might try to exploit a bug by using a Warlock teleport or a two-person mount to cross the bridge, but this is extremely unreliable in Mists of Pandaria. Therefore, don't take chances; without the cloak, this reputation-building journey will be significantly less efficient.

Furthermore, this reputation is one of the few in MoP that doesn't provide a Grand Commendation reputation bonus for the entire character during Revered stage. This means your alts won't benefit from any reputation gained by others. Also, Emperor Shaohao doesn't have a corresponding tabard, so it doesn't contribute to reputation gain from running five-man dungeons. This means your entire reputation source will consist of a single daily quest and countless Yaungol corpses.

How to quickly gain reputation?

Currently, the requirements to reach the lesser Emperor Shaohao reputation levels are:

• Neutral: 0
• Friendly: 3,000
• Honored: 9,000
• Revered: 21,000
• Exalted: 42,000

A total of 42,000 rep is needed to go from Neutral to Exalted. With guild reputation bonuses, killing elite mobs here provides an average of about 22 rep per kill. Roughly calculated, you'll need to kill nearly 1,900 monsters.

If you choose to clear Ordon Sanctuary in a group, a complete clear of all monsters will yield approximately 420 rep. In an ideal scenario with perfect team composition and no opposing or allied faction members competing for monsters, a highly efficient team would need approximately 8 hours of intensive grinding to reach Exalted.

Besides clearing Sanctuary, there are 6 quests on Timeless Isle related to Emperor Shaohao, each rewarding 250 rep, for a total of 1,500 rep. Utilizing these quests effectively can save you several rounds of monster grinding. They are:

1. The Last Emperor
2. Timeless Nutriment
3. Wayshrines of the Celestials
4. Path of the Mistwalker
5. Drive Back the Flame
6. The Archiereus of Flame

Therefore, it's recommended that you quickly complete the first three quests on the first day, and then consistently clear the daily quest Path of the Mistwalker. However, remember to save the quests Drive Back the Flame and The Archiereus of Flame. Once you've farmed 41,500 rep, return to camp to complete these quests. Those final 500 rep will save you from the tedious last run of Sanctuary. Give the long grind some hope!

Optimal Farming Route

Timeless Isle is divided into several areas, but the most efficient farming spot is undoubtedly Ordon Sanctuary.

After crossing the broken bridge into Sanctuary, the entire team can advance along the outer wall to the left. Clear Blazebound Chanter and Champion of the Black Flame along the way. Then bypass the arena and head straight into the inner hall where High Priest of Ordos resides. This loop provides approximately 420 rep.

However, if the monsters in Sanctuary haven't respawned yet, don't wait idly. Quickly lead your team down the mountain and kill Burning Berserker and Eternal Kilnmaster on The Blazing Way as a transition. Each Berserker provides 15 reputation points and refreshes extremely quickly.

Quartermaster Rewards

Emperor Shaohao's Quartermaster is Mistweaver Ku, who stands on the east side of Celestial Court. Note that all items offered by Mistweaver Ku require Timeless Coins to unlock. The ultimate goal, Reins of the Heavenly Golden Cloud Serpent, requires not only Exalted reputation but also at least 100,000 Timeless Coins.

Fortunately, while you're frantically Yaungoling in Ordon Sanctuary, every monster drops a considerable number of coins. As long as you restrain yourself and don't waste your coins on other transitional gear, by the time you reach Exalted reputation, you'll have accumulated just enough Timeless Coins to unlock this ultimate mount.
