  • Diablo 4: Blizzard Think It Has Gone Gold

    Posted: Apr 19, 2023

Although live-service games and day one patches have changed the gaming industry, "gone gold" is a milestone that still holds significance. Today, Blizzard announced that Diablo 4 has officially accomplished this milestone.

Diablo 4 is a highly anticipated next-generation installment of the iconic franchise, and today it reached a significant milestone as it officially went gold.

This achievement is the result of the incredible work put in by the dev team and represents a major step towards its upcoming launch on June 6th. Blizzard's Diablo general manager, Rod Fergusson, spoke about the significance of this achievement, saying that it is a concrete and meaningful step towards the game's launch.

Regardless of whether we are franchise veterans or newcomers, we are excited for everyone to fully experience Diablo 4, including its engaging storytelling, the ability to experiment with different character classes and builds, and the opportunity to explore the dark world of Sanctuary, as well as its endgame content.

In the days of physical media, game developers would reach a milestone in the development cycle known as "gone gold."

This meant that the game was complete and free of bugs and ready to be printed and shipped out to stores. Essentially, the game was finished and ready for release.

In the current world of live-service games, game development is an ongoing process that continues even after a game's initial release. Despite this, developers still have to reach a point where they are ready to ship the finished product, known as the "ship it" moment, which is why "gone gold" announcements still hold significance.

This milestone represents the completion of the game's development and indicates that it is ready to be released. While post-launch patches can still be used to make changes, the "gone gold" announcement signals that the wait for the game's release is almost over and that the final product is complete and cannot be altered further.

As Fergusson implied, we no longer need to worry about last-second delays caused by unexpected issues discovered during the open beta testing. This means that Diablo 4 will definitely be released on June 6th.

    Lack an Essential Feature

Diablo 4's release is quickly approaching, set for June 6th on both PS5 and PS4. You can buy Diablo 4 Gold in advance.

The game has already gone gold, indicating that development is complete and the finished product is ready to be released. However, there was some bittersweet news accompanying the announcement, as Diablo franchise manager, Rod Ferguson, confirmed in a reply that a familiar feature would not be returning, at least for the time being.

The map overlay, though not the most glamorous feature, allows players to navigate through the Circles of Hell and defeat demonic hordes without breaking the flow of the action.

This feature has been a staple of Diablo games since the first installment, but it will not be making a return in Diablo 4. Instead, players will have to rely solely on the minimap to navigate the game's randomized world.

In a recent Open Beta session for Diablo 4, players noticed the absence of a feature that has been present in previous installments: the map overlay. While some players feel that this feature is essential to the overall gameplay experience, others may view it as less important.

Despite this missing feature, Diablo 4 is still generating a lot of excitement and anticipation, and fans are eager to play the game upon its release. Whether the map overlay is added in a future update remains to be seen, but players can share their opinions in the comments section.
