Path Of Exile 2 Patch 0.3.0 Act 4 Overview: What New Areas And Bosses Are There?

After nearly five months, Path of Exile 2 finally received another major update. While no new classes were added this time, the story has finally advanced to Act 4.

As one of the highlights of 0.3.0, it is undoubted that players are very excited about it. So, what is the main story of Act 4, and how does it compare to the previous three acts?

Path Of Exile 2 Patch 0.3.0 Act 4 Overview: What New Areas And Bosses Are There?

Act 4 Plot

The story of Path of Exile 2 takes place 20 years after the events of the original game, but the protagonists are completely different.

In the first three acts, you are an exile sentenced to death by Count, but luckily escape (this is the screen where you choose your class). Investigating Seed of Corruption, you eventually battle Count, discovering that he has been bewitched by Oriana. However, she has already escaped with The Beast. (Act 1)

Tracing Oriana's footsteps, you arrive in Vastiri Desert and defeat her resurrected champion, who harnesses the power of the beast, but she escapes once again. (Act 2)

In the ruins of Utzaal Jungle, you encounter the people of Kingsmarch and gain access to the lore of Vaal Empire. After defeating the final boss, Doryani, a brilliant inventor from Vaal Empire, he finally agrees to help you assemble a weapon to fight The Beast. (Act 3)

Act 4 picks up where Act 3 left off, as you continue your hunt for Oriana and The Beast. In addition to The Hooded One, Doryani will also join you on your journey to find The Third Edict, an ancient weapon powerful enough to defeat The Beast.

This legendary relic is said to have shattered long ago, its fragments scattered across Ngamakanui Archipelago. You'll need to charter a boat from Kingsmarch to reach this area.

New Areas

Unlike the linear storyline of the first three acts, Act 4 is a semi-open world, allowing you to explore any of the areas you choose. The following areas are related to Act 4:

  • Kingsmarch (Town)
  • Kedge Bay, Journey's End
  • Ngatoto Island, Hinekora's Passage
  • Shrike Island
  • Singing Caverns
  • Shiplash Seastead
  • The Enclave of the Twilight Order
  • Isle of Decay
  • Ngakanu
  • Precursor Forge - Precursor Ruins
  • Twilight Enclave
  • Shrike Island: Monster Level 46 (Boss, Scourge of the Skies)
  • Journey's End: Monster Level 45 (Boss, Captain Hartlin)
  • Ngatoto Island: Monster Level 45 (Boss, Diamora, Song of Death)
  • Isle of Kin: Monster Level 45 (Boss, Krutog, the Lord of Kin)
  • Izaro's Prison (Eternal Prison): Monster Level 45 (Boss, The Prisoner)

If you're not leveling high enough, you can level in these areas, but don't try to farm currency there. This time is wasted until you reach the endgame, so don't waste too much time there.

New Bosses

In addition to defeating 100 new monsters in Act 4, you'll also face 12 new bosses. It's currently unknown which boss will be the final one, but it's likely that the final boss in Act 4 will depend on the path you choose. Defeating these bosses will reward you with equipment and some PoE 2 currency. Here are some of the bosses in Act 4:

  • Krutog, Lord of Kin (Giant Goblin Boss)
  • The Blind Beast
  • Yama the White
  • Captain Hartlin
  • The Prisoner
  • Diamora, Song of Death
  • Scourge of the Skies
  • Hoko, of the Tukohoma Tribe

Krutog, Lord Of Kin

Krutog, Lord of Kin is an unstunnable boss with high resistance to physical damage. It consumes Sulphite in the area and vomits it towards you. This skill is an AoE ability, dealing Chaos damage if hit. It also uses attacks like Trample and Projectiles, but its movement speed is moderate, making it easily kited by classes like Huntresses and Rangers.

Captain Hartlin

Captain Hartlin is an undead boss with high physical and cold resistance. It deals physical and fire damage primarily. Besides its ability to use projectiles like mortars, its summoned ghost crew members can also fire beams at you.

Its movement speed is very slow, making it easier for agile classes to deal with it, but be wary of its various ranged attacks. Furthermore, many of its skills convert physical damage into fire damage, so be sure to increase your fire resistance.

Diamora, Song Of Death

Diamora, Song of Death is a demon boss with a movement speed similar to Krutog, Lord of Kin. It has high cold resistance but is weak to lightning. It is a spellcaster dealing primarily cold damage. Aside from being careful with her AoE abilities and increasing your cold resistance, this boss is quite easy to defeat.

Scourge Of The Skies

Scourge of the Skies is a beastly boss that can fly and doesn't have any particularly strong resistances. Besides approaching and attacking you, its primary attack is to summon minions. Therefore, having an AoE ability that can quickly clear monster builds makes it much easier to deal with them.

As for main bosses, they're not particularly difficult and can be defeated with the right gear and level. If you're repeatedly defeated, you can increase your level or use PoE 2 currency to rebuild your gear might be a better option.

This is a general overview of Path of Exile 2 Act 4. I hope this information will help you more easily complete Act 4 and reach the endgame.

Path Of Exile 2 Patch 0.3.0 All The Core New Content You Should Know - Act 4, Sprint Ability And More

Unbelievably, there are less than five days left until the release of Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.3.0: The Third Edict! In the August 20th livestream and the subsequent patch notes, the development team unveiled a wealth of new content!

Of course, much of this content is based on updates and optimizations to existing mechanics, which you can fully experience through gameplay after the patch and Rise of the Abyssal League launch.

However, for some of the new features, we recommend familiarizing yourself with them before 0.3.0's official release so you can quickly adapt to the new league and avoid wasting extra time learning the mechanics.

Below, we'll highlight a few of these new features so you can dominate 0.3.0 after August 29th!

Path Of Exile 2 Patch 0.3.0 All The Core New Content You Should Know - Act 4, Sprint Ability And More

Act 4 & The Interludes

In terms of the game's story, Path of Exile 2 0.3.0 follows Acts 1-3 with the introduction of Act 4. By introducing Polynesian-style Ngamakunui Archipelago, you can explore further story lines and gain more opportunities to farm POE 2 currency through new locations and bosses.

The archipelago consists of eight islands, but you can visit them in any order, adventuring while searching for ways to stop the corruption threatening Wraeclast and completing the main questline of Act 4.

Notably, in addition to Act 4, the game also introduces a new mechanic called The Interludes. Previously, if you wanted to access Path of Exile 2 endgame, you had to complete the first three acts and then play through them again on Cruel difficulty.

But now, The Interludes replaces this old system with new, less repetitive side quests, allowing you to earn additional loot and XP while experiencing Path of Exile 2 like never before.

The Interludes are expected to feature three temporary acts, including 19 new areas and nine new bosses, each representing a different storyline:

  • Interlude I: Return to Ogham as in Act I and assist Renly.
  • Interlude II: Travel to Vastiri Desert to find Asala.
  • Interlude III: Join Doryani in their search for the missing Vaal descendants.

However, both The Interludes itself and some of the related bosses added to the endgame will be removed after Act 5 officially launches to prevent irregularities in the game's act mechanics.

Available Sprint Ability

In combat, besides attacking skills that deal damage and defensive skills that can block critical enemy attacks, timely and reliable dodges are also crucial. For this reason, Patch 0.3.0 adds a sprint ability to all characters.

This ability allows you to enter a sprint state by continuing to hold the dodge button after completing a dodge roll, significantly increasing your movement speed. But using other skills while sprinting will automatically cause you to exit the sprint state.

Note that taking damage while in this state will temporarily stun you, making you more vulnerable to enemy attacks. Therefore, if you want to escape enemy pursuit by sprinting, you must carefully time and sprint in the right direction.

Because this ability requires some skill, it's not recommended for new players of POE 2 to use it in the early game frequently. Not only could it lead to unnecessary damage, but frequent dodging could prevent you from farming necessary resources.

Of course, if you're truly in mortal danger, sprinting can still keep you safe by allowing you to retreat as needed. In short, overuse is never a good idea.

Rise Of The Abyssal League

Rise of the Abyssal, the new league that launched with patch 0.3.0 The Third Edict is a more formalized version of POE 2's first full league and a sequel to the league in the original game.

During Rise of the Abyssal, you'll occasionally encounter strange rifts that spawn a steady stream of monsters. You must eliminate these enemies quickly to resolve crises and obtain loot.

Providing More Ways To Enhance Your Character

If you want to enhance your character in Path of Exile 2, there are numerous ways. In other words, besides leveling up, the primary factor that determines your combat effectiveness is your build, and build crafting is closely related to a variety of items and mechanics.

Based on unresolved issues in Dawn of the Hunt and the pointless skill nerfs that left you dissatisfied, 0.3.0 primarily changes class skills and support gem mechanics.

Regarding skill gems, POE 2 is expected to balance the power differences between major skills, ensuring you have more powerful options while minimizing the homogenization of build crafting.

As for support gems, previously you could only insert one support gem per skill, but now you can place them in any number of skills, further expanding the diversity and options of crafting builds.

In addition, patch 0.3.0 introduces a new type of support gem, Lineage Supports, consisting of approximately 40 gems in total. These are extremely rare and can only be obtained by farming specific bosses.

Overall, The Third Edict builds on the strengths of the previous patch, not only adding new content to enhance the game's richness but also resolving some long-standing player complaints.

We hope the information we have provided here will be helpful in your experience with the new POE 2 patch! We wish you a pleasant journey through 0.3.0!
