The development team originally claimed that the socketables system was intended to replace the overly complex Crafting Bench, lowering the barrier to entry for new players.
However, the actual game added hundreds, even thousands, of socketables with different functions, each relying on drops and farming, and disappearing once embedded. This made the system more complex than the original Crafting Bench.
Unclear Balance Adjustments

Since Patch 0.4.0 introduced the new main class, Druid, PoE 2 has now shifted its focus to Ascendancy Classes.

First, the stag form allows you to gain a stack of Vivid Wisp for every 20 meters you move. Upon consuming these stacks, you summon a herd of stags that leap up to four times; furthermore, these stags convert 60% of their physical damage into lightning damage.
In practical terms, this means that if you are wielding a weapon with high physical damage, you can achieve a massive conversion of damage types, thereby unleashing astonishing damage output.
The owl form grants you beneficial effects as feather blessings: not only do these increase the number of projectiles you fire, but they also significantly boost the flight speed of the projectiles from your next skill usage.
The function of the bear form is quite straightforward: it directly summons a massive bear companion to fight alongside you.
Additionally, all three forms are fully compatible with standard skill gem setups, allowing you to build entire character builds centered around these specific mechanics.
While each of the three spirits offers its own advantages, the bear form is generally the recommended choice during the early stages of the game, as it grants your minions an additional 20% damage boost and an extra 20% to their maximum life.
Furthermore, the bear spirit will leap toward enemies to inflict the maim status effect upon them. It simultaneously leeches life while mauling its targets and periodically lets out a roar to intimidate its foes.

The detailed breakdown of Idolatry
Among Spirit Walker's nine unique abilities, Idolatry stands out as particularly distinct, as it is heavily tied to Idols you have socketed.
The effect of this ability is that for every Idol socketed in your gear slots, the damage dealt by your animal companions increases by 10%. Additionally, for every Idol socketed, your skill reservation efficiency increases by 2%.
This allows you to summon more companions simultaneously while dealing increased damage. However, for the sake of balance, for every Non-Idol Augment socketed in your gear slots, all of your elemental resistances are reduced by 4%.
In short, this ability is designed to encourage you to socket as many Idols as possible to mitigate the negative effects, while fully capitalizing on the various positive buffs, such as increased companion damage, that they provide.
As for the issue of losing some elemental resistance, this can be easily compensated for using the various new enchantments and crafting systems introduced in Patch 0.5.0.
How to unlock Spirit Walker?
In terms of unlock requirements, there is essentially no difference between the various Ascendancy Classes.
First, you must ensure that your character's main class is Huntress. Then, upon reaching Act 2, complete Trial of the Sekhemas to unlock your chosen Ascendancy Class and receive two initial Ascendancy points.
However, before you can do that, you must first defeat the boss Balbala, the Traitor, to obtain either Djinn Barya or Balbala's Barya coin, which serves as the key to unlock the trial.
Afterward, you can complete additional trials in Act 3 to earn more Ascendancy points. While your choice of Ascendancy Class is permanent and cannot be changed, you can reset your allocation of Ascendancy nodes.

After nearly five months, Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.0 Return of the Ancients has finally been unveiled. During the official livestream, while the full scope of Runes of Aldur League wasn't shown, what was revealed was already immensely exciting.
PoE 2 Patch 0.5.0 is scheduled to launch on May 29, 2026, at 1:00 PM PDT, and it is far from a simple league update - it's a colossal release that includes 30 brand-new endgame zones, a new pinnacle boss, five legendary storylines, and a massive wave of mechanical overhauls. You can think of it as an expansion on the scale of Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred, one that will almost reshape the entire game.

Rune Smithing
After freeing the blacksmith in Act 1, you will unlock a huge monolith, introducing the new Rune Smithing system. Activating the monolith summons waves of monsters, and defeating them yields generous rewards.
Once you learn specific recipes, you can reliably obtain a certain Augmentation very early in the campaign, making story progression much smoother. The monolith also resurrects nearby undead monsters and grants them various empowering affixes, which becomes particularly challenging in high-level endgame zones, as those monsters can carry extremely deadly enhancements.
You'll need to find Rune Stones scattered across the world to learn more recipes, and the entire process is simple, engaging, and rewarding.
Verisium and Kalguuran Spells
Closely tied to Rune Smithing is a new crafting and spell system. You will discover new currency, Verisium, which you can bring to Runes of Aldur League NPC to have your equipment imbued with a Runic Ward. This is an entirely new defensive mechanic that is only consumed when your life reaches zero, essentially serving as a third health layer beyond energy shield and life.
What's truly exciting are Kalguuran Spells, which you can obtain by defeating special monsters near the monoliths. Kalguuran Spells don't consume any resource, have no attribute requirements, and are usable by all classes. Instead of mana, they draw upon your Runic Ward. In addition, a wealth of new support gems will interact with Runic Ward mechanic.
Mechanic Changes
Expedition
Expeditions will now feature Remnants from Kalguuran. These remnants apply additional buffs to all summoned enemies, dramatically increasing the danger while making POE 2 Currency and items from a single expedition more concentrated and of higher quality.
Once you reach the endgame, you'll find a small port in the southern part of Atlas, which triggers an entirely new core Expedition mechanic. You'll set sail, fight your way to an island, and take on a new boss that dominates it. Defeating that boss awards a Log Book, which unlocks more optional content across the seas.
Delirium
Delirium will now show a progress bar indicating how deeply you're venturing into the madness; the deeper you go, the greater the peril. Touching and destroying shards creates insanity effects that alter encounters.
Furthermore, Delirium emotions now have a brand-new use - they can be applied to Jewels to add specific affixes that are normally extremely difficult to roll, effectively adding a precise, small-scale crafting method to the game.
Breach
The remaining time before a Breach closes will now be displayed accurately. You need to keep Breach open to reach the second tier, destroy all monsters, and trigger an insane explosion of items. You can summon powerful bosses to earn Breach offerings used for crafting powerful gear on a dedicated crafting tree.
Breach crafting tree needs to be fed continuously; it will gradually grow, unlocking new base types and brand-new affixes, allowing you to forge specific items that cannot be obtained anywhere else in the game. Once you craft a Breachstone, you can unlock new Breach domains visible on Atlas to challenge a new pinnacle boss.
Ritual
Items obtainable from Rituals will no longer include junk; they will consist exclusively of unique items or Omens. You can also choose to sacrifice tribute for a chance to fight a boss.
Find and defeat it, and after fulfilling certain tasks you will unlock new Ritual variants that can summon colossal beasts. Defeat them to harvest their body parts and use them to build your own altar, which influences subsequent maps. Monsters will not simply respawn in place - they accumulate from one map to the next, meaning you may have the chance to face five bosses at once.
Endgame Atlas
Atlas passive tree has been completely reworked and filled with powerful new nodes. For example, Rogue Exiles who retreat during a fight will return with better equipment to challenge you again; or you can make Strongboxes have up to seven prefixes and additional suffixes. The tree can even combine mechanics - such as having Delirium spirits inhabit Strongboxes, empowering all the monsters that pour out of them.
Now, you can earn points by clearing maps within strongholds to unlock all nodes on Atlas tree. The developers said this approach allows them to design extremely potent bonuses without worrying about players constantly respecing their tree for different activities. Of course, many nodes still require you to make a choice, preserving the strategic depth.
Atlas Masters
Another intriguing new mechanic within Atlas Passive Tree is the introduction of Atlas Masters. These Masters will teach you specialized skills and grant access to independent, mini-passive trees. Martial Artist

Quality of Life Updates
In terms of quality of life, new markers have been added to the campaign to guide players, along with signpost-like arrows so you can know your objective's direction without constantly opening the minimap.
For players who love theorycrafting, an in-game Build Guide system has been added. You can directly load a build file, and it will highlight all necessary nodes on the passive tree, as well as guide you on required Ascendancy points, skill gems, support gem recommendations, and even gear requirements.
Patch 0.5.0 hasn't just met player expectations - it has arguably surpassed them. It gives players a new goal after reaching the endgame, and you can easily sink thousands of hours into it.

What Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.0 Needs to Fix? | Emphasis on Endgame and Balance issues
Players, by now you all understand the importance of Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.0; its scale likely surpasses many major PoE 1 updates. The official announcement previously revealed that Patch 0.5.0 would be an endgame update, and the development team has been working on it for a long time. So, what changes are needed in the new Patch to make the endgame content truly outstanding?
Infinite Atlas
The current problem with Atlas is that the system is both simplistic and confusing, lacking meaning. Players simply mechanically move from one map to another, completely devoid of strategy. It's a huge difference compared to PoE 1 Atlas and feels mediocre compared to other ARPGs.
Currently, the maps only have occasional corrupted areas, offering little variation or surprise. It feels like a piecemeal, cobbled-together system.

If Patch 0.5.0 is to address this, it should ideally significantly improve the depth and playability of Atlas. While a patch can't completely rewrite the game, we hope to at least see noticeable progress. The goal is to give players a sense of purpose in every step of their exploration, rather than blindly pushing through maps.
Atlas Skill Tree
The development team has actually stated that they are not entirely satisfied with the current Atlas Skill Tree.
Atlas Skill Tree is too weak overall. Most of the minor talents increase the number of rare monsters, monster density, or item quantity, without truly changing the gameplay.
Currently, players either choose Shrine or focus on Essence or Wildwood Wisp, offering very limited options.
Ideally, Atlas Skill Tree should be at least three times larger than it is now. The new Patch needs to provide more diverse map buffs, affix adjustments, and gameplay customization options, making each skill point feel significant. Patch 0.5.0 will probably completely rework this part.
Tiered Rare Gear
Frankly, the current Tier 5 to Tier 1 rare gear is generally mediocre. In most cases, a white base with simple crafting can create gear that is better than Tier 5 drops.
After 20-30 hours of exploration, players completely ignore all tiered rare gear, focusing solely on white base items for crafting. In contrast, crafting with PoE 2 currency is the mainstream method for obtaining powerful equipment, which renders tiered equipment dropped on the ground almost worthless.
I really hope Patch 0.5.0 will significantly buff Tier 5 gear, perhaps by giving Tier 5 base items naturally top-tier affix combinations. This would make ground drops exciting again, instead of forcing players to rely solely on crafting tables. After all, the fun of ARPGs lies in obtaining thrilling loot.
Map Layout Issues
Currently, unlike PoE 1, players can't freely choose which specific map to farm. Furthermore, in Infinite Atlas, you're often forced into poorly designed layouts to progress.
Molten Vault is a prime example of this; its complex terrain, long routes, and scattered mobs make it incredibly frustrating.
When you're forced to traverse these poorly designed maps to reach the next tower or corruption zone, it creates intense fatigue and an urge to quit.
If players aren't allowed to freely choose maps, then every map's layout must be at least good or acceptable; extremely poor layouts are unacceptable. Each map can have its own unique characteristics, players shouldn't feel like they've already played that map.
Additionally, it's recommended to directly display the layout name or its initials on the map icon to avoid requiring players to hover and wait for a delay to identify the map. This small operational burden will inevitably exacerbate player fatigue over time. Good games always excel in the details.
More Endgame Content
It must be acknowledged that players can now experience all of the game's current endgame content after 20 hours of character progression. Furthermore, the endgame bosses had their health significantly reduced in Patch 0.3.0 and 0.4.0, making their mechanics completely invisible.
It's very likely that after playing Patch 0.3.0 and 0.4.0, players won't even know what skills those bosses have, because they've already been instantly killed. The endgame content consistently lacks challenge and playability.
We still hope that Patch 0.5.0 can introduce a boss similar to Uber Boss in PoE 1, and a Tier 16.5 super map, as a truly top-tier challenge.
The new Patch needs to increase the health and mechanism complexity of existing endgame bosses, ensuring players experience at least one full round of skill interactions. It also needs to add more valuable endgame pursuit objectives, giving the game a clear direction for improvement even after 20 hours.
Addressing Energy Shield Balance Issue
ES have been extremely powerful since the release of PoE 2, with builds boasting over 20,000 shields in every league. This is what we mean by a loss of game balance.
Therefore, Patch 0.5.0 should either significantly reduce the maximum value or recovery mechanism of ES, or significantly strengthen bosses to an equal degree.
If the balance isn't addressed, all the previous discussions about difficulty, bosses, and tiers are meaningless. As long as players can still one-shot everything with 20,000 ES, even the most difficult boss won't survive 10 seconds.
Patch 0.5.0 should truly bring meaningful balance adjustments, making boss battles no longer just a 10-second close-quarters fight, but requiring positioning, mechanic awareness, and character development.
So, these are my predictions for the endgame content of PoE 2 Patch 0.5.0, which also reflect some of the players' sentiments. Hopefully, players will see a different endgame experience in the near future!

What Impact Will the Delay of Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5 Have? | The ripple effect might cancel a 2026 full launch
After months of waiting, we finally have news about the next major update for Path of Exile 2. Patch 0.5.0, officially named Return of the Ancients, will be fully revealed on May 7th.
However, in an unexpected twist, the patch won't go live shortly after the reveal stream as usual. Instead, players will have to wait until May 29th - three weeks after the announcement. This is clearly different from the official plan, and it may have some impact on the official release of Path of Exile 2.

An Unusual Release Cycle
This marks the first time since the launch of Path of Exile 1 and 2 that a patch has arrived more than eight days after its announcement. Typically, the reveal is scheduled about a week before release, so revealing all the details on May 7th is rather uncommon.
The developers have already hinted that the core focus of Patch 0.5.0 is the endgame, claiming it will be the largest update ever.
Impact of Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred
The release date of PoE 2 Patch 0.5.0 clearly breaks the developers' earlier promise of a new league every four months. Following that schedule, the update should have started around the end of April. Instead, players are being asked to wait an extra month.
One can't help but consider whether Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred, launching in late April, played a role. Although, from a player perspective, the audiences of Diablo 4 and Path of Exile don't entirely overlap - Torchlight: Infinite shares more with PoE, while Last Epoch is closer to Diablo 4 - the clash between the December release dates of Diablo 4 Season 12 and Patch 0.4.0 did have some impact on both games.
Since this is one of Diablo 4's biggest updates to date, PoE 2 team may have wanted to avoid a repeat of past scheduling conflicts (Diablo 4's Paladin class was revealed in Season 12, and the new class for Season 13 is Warlock). Delaying by a month would help stagger the releases.
Teaser Content
The first teaser trailer, only 30 seconds long, appears to show the area where the endgame boss, Arbiter of Ash, resides, as Burning Monolith rises.
Given the patch name and the teaser, Patch 0.5.0 seems to revolve around Precursors, who are deeply intertwined with the core story. Many endgame elements - Precursor Towers, Precursor Tablets, the weapon the player assembles in Act 4, even Arbiter and Flame Seed he guards - all originate from Precursors.
Until May 7th, it's hard to say exactly which endgame mechanics will be featured. However, the developers have leaked an image related to Patch 0.5.0, and that image points directly to Keepers of the Flame league from PoE 1.
