New World Aeternum Season 10 Nighthaven Catacombs PvE Mode Guide

The release date for New World Aeternum Season 10 has finally been revealed! That's right, on Monday, October 13th, the new season called Nighthaven is coming!
This update is still free if you already own the game on Xbox or PS5. The only catch is that if you're a returning player from 2021 to 2022, before the release of Rise of the Angry Earth expansion, you'll still need to obtain that expansion to experience Nighthaven.
As always, New World Season 10: Nighthaven brings a host of changes, including a new map area, a level cap increase, and new raids and artifacts to discover. However, here, we're focusing on a brand new PvE mode: Catacombs.
Let's take a quick look at the gameplay and rewards available in Catacombs PvE. In a dungeon teeming with danger, you'll face a choice: pursue more New World Aeternum coins and loot, or escape safely!
Catacombs PVE Mode Overview
Because of its procedurally generated layout, Catacombs offers exceptional replayability, and each playthrough presents new challenges. With each boss defeated, the dungeon's challenge increases significantly, and so does the potential reward.
3-Player Dungeon
Catacombs accommodates up to three players, requiring coordinated effort to successfully defend against the escalating threats. This means it's a three-player dungeon, not the five, ten, or even twenty-player dungeons of our Expeditions and Raids.
In short, in these procedurally generated dungeons, players will battle a diverse array of enemies and bosses. You'll earn pattern-specific power-ups, collect cursed resources and currency, and race against time to escape and purify your treasure before the clock runs out.
Collecting Cursed Resources
Therefore, you can imagine the importance of these cursed resources in Nighthaven. While the developers haven't yet revealed how to collect these specific currencies and resources, the current gameplay might offer some clues.
Currently, there are a few areas in New World where you can also earn cursed loot. One area is Cursed Mists in the game, a free-for-all (FFA) PvP zone that significantly expands the explorable areas of the Cutlass Keys area.
Chopping down trees and looting chests here will give you a chance to find Cursed Doubloons, cursed resources, and other loot.
Assuming they implement similar mechanics for Catacombs game mode, I have to warn you: while resource gathering is fun, don't die! This is because in Cursed Mists zone, faction is irrelevant; all players are marked for PvP, and death results in you losing half of your collected resources, creating an unpredictable and rewarding experience for both solo players and adventurers.
So, perhaps a similar system will exist in Catacombs: failing to exit safely will result in the loss of most of the treasure you've collected, but this can be avoided by just one player exiting safely.
Push Forward Or Safely Exit?
Then, after defeating the boss, you'll face a crucial decision: continue deeper to obtain better items and more challenging enemies, or simply save your existing treasure.
Yes, since Catacombs is a three-player PVE extraction mode with various power-ups, it may have some roguelike elements. And they seem to be investing a lot of rewards in this mode, so there's both risk and reward!

Key Rewards
Catacombs mode in New World Season 10 offers a wealth of rewards. In addition to Cursed Resources and currency that can be exchanged for various items, it also includes unique gear with powerful Infix Perks, set bonuses for rare gear from Pinnacle content, and mode-exclusive power-ups that enhance player abilities.
First, Catacombs dungeons are filled with unique cursed resources and special currencies. These serve as crucial tools for leveling up and obtaining high-level rewards, increasing the risk and reward of the mode. Collecting these resources and the brand-new currency within allows you to quickly raise your Gear Score to 725.
Infix Perks is a new system introduced in Season 10. The developers have stated that unique gear pieces will come with these powerful and rare perks, called Infixes. These will function similarly to the unique perks on Artifacts.
Whether these Infix Perks will replace Artifacts or work alongside them is currently unclear. However, with them, combined with set bonuses and other perks for customization, we have the potential for some truly unique builds!
Furthermore, Catacombs are a source of extremely rare gear sets, which offer powerful bonuses when equipped with multiple pieces, encouraging diverse build combinations.
Finally, as players progress through procedurally generated dungeons, they can earn special boosters that enhance their character's attributes and abilities.
All in all, some of the best items you can get in New World Aeternum Nighthaven are almost exclusively in Catacombs PvE Game Mode. So, get your three-person team together, prioritize your tank, damage dealer, and healer, and see how long you can last within the time limit. Of course, you'll also want to avoid dying so you can keep the loot from defeated bosses and enemies!
