Diablo 4 Season 9 Trading System Flaws: Why Is It So Inefficient?
Posted: Jul 22, 2025 Views: 49
Diablo 4’s graphics and plot performance are the highest level among similar games, but its economic system is very backward compared to other games and cannot meet the needs of players at all.
The transactions between players have been filled with a lot of monotonous and repetitive content. The trading system in the game has become a specialty store for lair bosses materials, which reflects the big flaws behind the game.
Why Are Bosses Materials Traded Crazily?
If Diablo 4 items that players want to get the most are mythic items, they must be mythic items, because most endgame builds currently need them to solve problems such as resources or cooling. But the absolute majority of players definitely don’t have enough gold to exchange for a mythic item. If you don’t use third-party websites to take shortcuts, then what is the conventional method? The answer is to farm the lair boss.
Killing Belial, Duriel, Harbinger of Hatred, or Andariel has a higher probability of dropping legendary items, but it is only relative. Players have to farm nearly 100 bosses to get a mythic item, which may not be what they want items.
If you have enough materials in your backpack and your builds are powerful enough, you can defeat a Torment 4 lair boss in about 15 to 20 minutes, but this means you will waste over than 20 hours of boring time on this matter. If you are unlucky, it may take over than 30 hours. Not to mention that you have to take extra time collecting boss materials like Diablo 4 Betrayer’s Husk, which is completely garbage time for players. This is why the boss material trading every season is so crazy.
For ordinary players who do not participate in the trade, they may not see any Mythic item in the boss drops for a whole season.
Mythic Items Have Design Flaws
This abnormal trading shows that its essence lies in the flaws of the mythic items or equipment system. In the player’s build, the strong mutual binding of skills and equipment leads to not much room for the player’s build to adjust by themselves, but farming equipment is a chore.
For some players, the endgame is not about which builds are stronger, but what builds their equipment can match.
Mythic items have become the core components of builds because of their powerful effects, but it is really unreasonable that they are so difficult to obtain. Although there are ways to build them through Resplendent Sparks and Diablo 4 Runes in the game, it is also difficult to get Resplendent Sparks and high-quality Runes, which has become a source of pain for players every season.
Trading System
Diablo 4’s trading system is very inconvenient. It requires you to find the reason and the object of your transaction in the chat interface, and then you need to come to the same place and face to face to initiate the transaction. In addition to the bound items that cannot be traded, the items you can trade are as follows:
- Ordinary equipment
- Magic equipment
- Rare equipment
- Legendary equipment
- Unique equipment
- Mythic equipment
- Gemstones
- Elixir
- Materials
- Diablo 4 gold
This is undoubtedly an inefficient way of trading. This face-to-face trading method requires both players to be online at the same time. Every time the season is halfway through, the number of players will often be halved, and the difficulty of trading becomes much higher at this time, unless you join some player communities. So would it be better to add an auction house?
Why Is There No Auction House?
This problem can be traced back to Diablo 3. The developer tried to solve the problems left over from the previous generation and launched the official auction house, allowing players to use game coins and even real money to get equipment.
The transaction can be completed with a few clicks of the mouse, and the convenience is beyond doubt. However, this convenience has brought new and more serious problems: it greatly weakened the core fun of monster hunting, and the player’s game goal changed from “defeating the boss to get loot” to “farming gold for the auction house”.
The existence of the cash auction house has further promoted the P2W trend, seriously undermined the fairness of the game, and caused strong dissatisfaction in the community. What’s more serious is that the output of equipment in the game cannot be effectively controlled, resulting in too frequent value fluctuations.
How To Solve It?
Directly copying the auction house model of Diablo 3 has proven to be a failure, and completely copying PoE model may not be suitable for Diablo ecosystem. But perhaps we can learn from the experience of all parties and explore some compromise solutions:
It is possible to consider setting up a limited range of auction houses or trading boards, allowing only specific categories of items to be traded, while the most powerful unique equipment, legendary equipment with top affixes, or core rewards obtained through specific challenges, should be appropriately kept bound on pickup or restricted from trading to ensure that players still have enough motivation to challenge high-difficulty content in person.
We can also design reasonable transaction taxes, listing fees, purchase cooldowns, transaction quantity limits and other mechanisms to curb excessive speculation and market manipulation and maintain relatively stable prices.
Setting up more ways to create Mythic items can expand the gameplay of the game on the one hand, and reduce players’ unnecessary junk game time on the other hand.
Compared with the current game content, Diablo 4’s trading system is like a lame leg. It has begun to hinder the game and needs a thorough adjustment.
