Is Season 12 the Prelude to Lord of Hatred Expansion? Diablo 4 2.6.0 PTR Release Date and New Features

If the start of Compass to Carnage event didn't quite give you the feel of the season's end tension, then the announcement of 2.6.0 PTR officially confirms that Diablo 4 Season 12 is just around the corner!
Following Diablo 4's season update pattern, Season 12 should launch sometime in March 2026, with the new expansion launching a little over a month later.
Based on this, we're bringing you a preview of 2.6.0 PTR so you can prepare for S12 earlier.

When will 2.6.0 PTR launch?
This public test realm is expected to open at 10:00 AM PST on February 3rd and will continue for one week, ending at the same time on February 10th.
During this period, you can experience the new seasonal mechanics and items that Season 12 will bring, as well as other updates and optimizations based on Diablo 4's regular gameplay.
The development team will then make further adjustments to the update based on test results and player feedback to ensure that the final Season 12 is a valuable season.
It's worth noting that, given its close release date to the second expansion, Lord of Hatred, the new content in Season 12 may have some potential connection to the new story or region introduced in that expansion.
New killstreak system
In Diablo 4 combat, you've probably experienced the thrill of taking down multiple targets at once when encountering hordes of enemies. In Season 12, this killstreak experience, besides its inherent excitement, can also bring you extra rewards!
This mechanism is triggered whenever you start rapidly and continuously killing enemies in combat, after which a countdown system will appear, accompanied by a window that calculates your kill count in real time.
Afterwards, based on the number of enemies you kill within a fixed time using common damage output methods such as basic attacks or initial damage over time, the system will assess your killstreak rank, which includes the following ranks:
- Killstreak
- Carnage
- Devastation
- Bloodbath
- Massacre
The more enemies you kill during the killstreak assessment, the higher your rank and the greater the rewards you will receive (including XP and seasonal reputation), plus additional rewards based on your rank.
However, it's important to note that the reputation system is not included in PTR phase, so reputation points are not currently available.
Furthermore, if you die before the killstreak countdown ends, the assessment will immediately stop, and you will not receive any rewards.
New item mechanism: Bloodied items
This mechanism refers to a special affix, Bloodied, that applies to all dropped Diablo 4 items. It does not affect the original effects of the items, meaning they will be more powerful than before.
While there are three types of Bloodied Sigils, their affix effects all contribute to increasing your killstreak rank and rewards. Most endgame events on Torment difficulty may drop this item.
More importantly, as your killstreak rank increases, Bloodied affix can also be upgraded, and different affix effects stack and are not mutually exclusive. The three Bloodied types and their effects are as follows:
- Rampage - Armor: Provides a random buff based on your killstreak rank.
- Feast - Weapons: Provides a random bonus based on your total kills in your current killstreak.
- Hunger - Jewelry: Grants you custom rewards, and the drop rate of these rewards increases with your killstreak rank.
Bloodied Sigils make combat more dangerous
Remember The Butcher? This elusive boss randomly appears while you're clearing dungeons, bringing you a bloody and terrifying experience. While his difficulty isn't as high as top-tier bosses like Lilith, the psychological pressure is definitely significant.
Based on this, Season 12 will introduce Bloodied Sigils. It contains two affixes:
- Nightmare Portal: Opens a portal next to you, bringing many monsters.
- Relentless Butcher: Increases monster strength while ensuring The Butcher appears.
Bloodied Sigils can appear as rewards after entering Torment difficulty system and exploring Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes, and defeating lair bosses.
It is expected that the combat triggered by Bloodied Sigils will be one level higher in difficulty than your current level, and the regular The Butcher will still appear randomly, meaning you might have to face two The Butchers simultaneously!
Therefore, for safety, we recommend that you team up with friends when activating Bloodied Sigils to obtain more Bloodied items through dungeon combat, as this will increase your chances of survival.
New unique items
For the past few seasons, Diablo 4 added one new unique item for each class. However, Season 12 temporarily changes this pattern, introducing five new options with greater class applicability:
Amulet - Blood-Mad Idol - All Classes:
- + 51-65 All Stats
- + 8.3-10% Attack Speed
- + 7-8% Critical Strike Chance
- + 17.5-31.5% Damage Reduction while Injured
- You will be constantly in Ferocity, but will take 200% extra damage over 8 seconds. This damage will then be converted into a burning effect, during which you will gain a 75-125% damage bonus.
Ring - Wendigo Brand - All Classes:
- + 424-457 Life
- + 855-1086 Life Regen
- + 146-159 Life on Hit
- + 441-490 Physical Resistance
- For every 15 kills in the last 30-60 seconds, your damage increases by 2% and your maximum health increases by 1%.
Dagger - Rustbitten Dirk - Sorcerer, Druid, Rogue, Necromancer:
- + 51-65 All Stats
- + 424-457 Life
- + 8.3-10% Attack Speed
- + 40-50% Vulnerable Damage
- Allows you to deal an additional 50-100% damage to lone enemies.
Gloves - Wyrdskin - All Classes:
- + 424-457 Life
- + 1-2 Ranks to Core Skills
- + 7-8% Critical Strike Chance
- + 8.3-10% Attack Speed
- All your attacks inflict Vulnerability on distant enemies and Weakness on nearby enemies. If an enemy is affected by both conditions simultaneously, they take an additional 10-30% damage.
One-Handed Axe - Thousand-Eye Reave - Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin:
- + 424-457 Life
- + 7-8% Critical Strike Chance
- + 36.5-50% Movement Speed on Elite Kill
- + Lucky Hit
- Grants you Ferocity while moving, and randomly increases your maximum Ferocity by 1-3 points. Each stack of Ferocity grants an additional 4-8% movement speed.
Furthermore, Season 11 leaderboard mechanism is expected to conclude its second round on February 9th. Whether there will be a third round, and whether the mechanism will continue in Season 12, remains unknown.
This concludes the overall preview of the new content that will be available in 2.6.0 PTR. Compass to Carnage event will end approximately one day after PTR's release, so your current task is to make the most of it to earn Season 11 rewards!
