Why Is Lonestar So Weak in Wardogs Season 1? | Blue Team Disadvantages Explained

Why Is Lonestar So Weak in Wardogs Season 1? | Blue Team Disadvantages Explained

Wardogs is divided into three factions, and the original design envisioned a relatively balanced competition in which each team would win its fair share of matches. However, in Season 1, Lonestar, the blue team, became the worst-performing faction, with an estimated win rate of only around 10% to 15%.

This suggests that Lonestar has several disadvantages that put it noticeably behind the other two teams. Over time, the blue team has developed a reputation as the weakest faction, even becoming the subject of numerous memes. Let's take a closer look at the disadvantages holding the blue team back and how the developers plan to balance the factions in Season 2.

Why Is Lonestar So Weak in Wardogs Season 1? | Blue Team Disadvantages Explained

Map Position Disadvantages

In Season 1, the headquarters and initial spawn areas of all three factions were fixed on the map, while the main contested areas changed from match to match.

At first glance, each faction appears to control a similar amount of territory. However, the red and green teams are positioned far apart, leaving the blue team sandwiched between them.

To make matters worse, a river blocks the blue team's path, making it difficult to cross over and establish bases on the hills. Most roads lead toward the center, but the blue team has very few viable routes, and those routes are easy for enemies to camp.

If the river and major roads are used as territorial boundaries, the green team controls the most territory, followed by the red team, while the unfortunate blue team has the least.

If the red and green teams establish bases in the north, the blue team, which starts in the far south, has very few options for responding.

However, if the blue team tries to build bases closer to the center, it risks being bombarded by both the red and green teams working together.

As a result, the blue team usually has to build bases in the southern region or tucked away in corners of the map, making it difficult to expand outward.

Uniform Issues

Another possible reason for the blue team's low win rate, which many players overlook, is that its uniforms are simply too easy to spot.

In the jungle, the green team's uniforms provide natural camouflage, while blue team soldiers can be spotted from a distance. The red team's black uniforms are also difficult to distinguish in the shadows.

Since many battles take place in forests, the green team has an advantage. However, this is not the main reason it has the highest win rate.

Wardog Uniform Issues

Impact on Players

The blue team really does lose frequently, and it loses often enough that players who care about winning will immediately choose the red team or green team when they see the faction selection screen.

If the players who invest the most time in the game begin avoiding the blue team, winning becomes even harder for those who remain. Consequently, most blue team players tend to be beginners or people who simply don't care much about winning or losing.

Because beginners are unfamiliar with the game's mechanics, their actions can look foolish to more experienced players. Some players have even created memes mocking the blue team, making others even less willing to join it.

Blue Team Playstyle

However, this isn't entirely bad news for the blue team. Since it faces so many disadvantages, the players who stick around tend to be casual gamers who aren't driven by a toxic desire to win at all costs.

If you want to play Wardogs in a relaxed, low-pressure environment, choosing the blue team is the easiest way to do so.

Compared with the other factions, the blue team is much friendlier. Its voice communications are noticeably less toxic, especially compared with those of the green team. blue team players are also more willing to teach newcomers how things work.

The blue team enjoys building unusual bases and tends to engage in more logistics activities, meaning it usually has plenty of surplus supplies available.

The green team generally follows the meta, building large bases, using snipers, and setting up multiple drills, all in pursuit of victory.

The red team is similar to the green team but favors infantry fighting and tends to be more aggressive. It also likes heading into combat hotspots.

Most importantly, even when the red team is losing to the green team, its players will still go after the blue team. Even when the blue team hasn't provoked them, the red team may target it anyway. Ultimately, each faction has its own distinct atmosphere.

Season 2 Adjustments

The developers plan to adjust the spawn points of all factions on Bakurani map in Season 2. Players will also receive additional Wardogs cash and XP for playing their chosen faction. In addition, the saturation of Lonestar's uniforms will be reduced, making blue team soldiers less conspicuous.

Players speculate that the bonus won't be particularly large, perhaps around 5%. However, these rewards could still add up to a substantial amount over the course of a season, although they will almost certainly remain lower than the rewards earned by winning matches.

If the blue team falls too far behind, another planned mechanic will grant a 20% shop discount to any faction trailing the second-place team by at least 40 points.

These measures suggest that the developers aren't confident they can completely resolve the blue team's problems, so they are introducing several advantages for Lonestar in Season 2.

The blue team does suffer from design decisions that discourage players from choosing it. On the other hand, its disadvantages have inadvertently created an environment where casual players can enjoy the game without excessive pressure.

However, Wardogs has increasingly become a contest between the red and green teams, with the blue team often left watching from the sidelines. This is far from what the developers originally intended. Even if some players are happy with the blue team's current situation, the developers are unlikely to let this imbalance continue indefinitely.

Wardogs Season 2 Confirmed: 4 New Weapons, 4 New Vehicles & Faction Adjustments

Wardogs Season 2 Confirmed: 4 New Weapons, 4 New Vehicles & Faction Adjustments

We're getting closer to the October 15th launch of Wardogs Season 2. Even though the full patch notes haven't been released yet, the information available so far reveals major updates across the board - from weapons and vehicles to weather systems and factions.

Are you ready? Let's take a look at the new Season 2 content and see if it hits the mark for you!

New Weapons

The latest update for Wardogs is very thoughtful, providing a new weapon for each of the four main infantry classes:

  • Assault: TCX Spear
  • Recon: M14
  • Medic: PP-19 Bizon
  • Support: Evo-3 Ultra

These new weapons will not only align with the progression paths of their respective classes but also feature new attachments; however, players will probably have to wait for the release of next week's patch notes to learn the specific details.

Additionally, Molotov cocktail is joining the battlefield; it's perfect for hitting clustered infantry, blocking choke points, or flushing enemies out of cover.

Wardogs Season 2 Confirmed: 4 New Weapons, 4 New Vehicles & Faction Adjustments

New Vehicles

Wardogs Season 2 adds four new vehicles to the lineup.

T-72 arrives as a new Main Battle Tank (MBT), Flakpanzer Gepard handles mobile air defense, and two variants of Wolf-110 join the fray: one focused on infantry transport and another equipped with a roof-mounted machine gun.

The transport Wolf-110 is ideal for rapid squad deployment, while the machine-gun variant offers sustained suppressive fire for infantry support.

With the addition of air defense and MBTs, expect to see much more frequent air-ground coordination and anti-armor engagements in Wardogs!

Similarly, the four new vehicles will be incorporated into our progression tracks, and the development team will make adjustments based on player feedback regarding balance issues.

Players who enjoy driving or coordinating armored pushes will have a wider range of tactical options in Season 2.

New Rainy Weather

Forward Operating Base players can also look forward to new content in Season 2, with the addition of three buildable items: MG Nest, Large Shelter, and Wooden Step.

However, what deserves your attention even more is the new, harsh rainy weather - which doesn't just shift dynamically during a match but remains in effect for the entire round and is added to the pool of selectable weather conditions at the start of a match on the server.

Keep in mind that rain significantly reduces in-game visibility and interferes with your ability to judge sounds; however, the accompanying thunderstorms allow you to use the noise of the thunder to mask the sound of gunfire and movement.

Furthermore, raindrops falling through holes in roofs onto various surfaces create distinct sounds, swinging the atmosphere and tactical considerations on Wardogs battlefield.

Regarding FOBs, new structures allow for further fortification of strongpoints, though players must also weigh the visibility and auditory disadvantages brought on by the rain.

If you or your squad can effectively capitalize on the noise of thunderstorms, you can launch surprise attacks amidst the harsh weather and secure a victory.

Balance Adjustments

In Wardogs Season 2, you may see resolutions to the balance issues that previously caused frustration, as the development team has prepared a massive overhaul based on data and feedback from Season 1.

Combat roles are being redefined, and weapon damage, recoil, and suppression effects are being readjusted - all to ensure players derive a sense of accomplishment from every season.

The economic reset not only addresses certain exploits but also refines player progression curves; notably, XP accumulated across seasons is preserved and will eventually be applied retroactively to long-term systems like the player skill tree.

Regarding other balance adjustments, such as those for weapons and equipment, overpowered options will be toned down in Wardogs Season 2. These changes are not intended to eliminate your preferred tactics, but to make them more reliant on team coordination.

For logistics players, the constant task of running supplies in Wardogs Season 2 will no longer be a mere chore, but an activity that yields clearer, more tangible rewards.

Faction Adjustments

In addition to the new content and gameplay features mentioned above, Lonestar - one of the game's three major factions - will receive significant buffs in Season 2.

These include season-exclusive XP and Wardogs cash rewards, as well as a redesign of their uniform aesthetics, all aimed at improving the faction's performance after recording the lowest win rate in Season 1.

Another adjustment aimed at trailing players allows the team that is behind to receive vendor discounts; additionally, team switching is restricted to prevent players from jumping from the disadvantaged side to the advantaged side during a match.

All these major changes are coming in Season 2!

Furthermore, Bakurani map will feature new spawn point configurations to further address game balance issues.

Keep in mind that these adjustments will probably alter the tempo of early-game firefights, requiring you to be ready to adapt your offensive and defensive strategies on the fly.

Players who join low-population servers will receive extra benefits, and a soccer ball has been added to HQ - you can kick it around and potentially earn rewards for doing so.

These measures aim to bring the win rates of the three Wardogs factions closer together and provide tangible in-game rewards for players willing to fill needed roles.

We can expect more detailed patch notes from the developers before Season 2 launches on October 15, so be sure to keep an eye out for the latest updates over the coming days.

Coordinate roles with your teammates now and figure out how you'll tackle matches in Wardogs Season 2, taking into account the new weapons, vehicles, and weather conditions.
