Diablo 4 Season 11 Compass to Carnage Event Returns | The Best Way to Make the Most of the End of the Season!

Last November, Diablo 4 Compass to Carnage event, planned for release at the beginning of the month, was delayed until the end, forcing players to more urgently utilize the event to earn some of the rewards from the final stage of Season 10.
Now, this event has returned during Season 11! While this means this season is nearing its end, it also indicates that the new season and the second expansion are just around the corner!
To better prepare for the new content and give your Season 11 journey a more satisfying conclusion, we'll provide information and gameplay details for the returning Compass to Carnage.

When is Compass to Carnage available?
At the time of writing, the event is already available in-game and is expected to run until February 4th, next Wednesday, giving you about a week to battle it out and earn loot.
Interestingly, you can use the dates of the two Compass to Carnage events to infer the possible release date of Season 12!
If the first Compass to Carnage wasn't delayed, it should have been a little over a month before Season 11, and the second event wasn't delayed. Therefore, Season 12 should launch sometime in the second or third week of March.
Furthermore, according to previously announced information, the second expansion, Lord of Hatred, will launch on April 18th. This means that for the rest of the first half of 2026, you, as a Diablo 4 player, will have a very fulfilling gaming experience!
How to play Compass to Carnage?
This event is based on Infernal Hordes, one of the endgame modes. The mechanism of this mode is that you first obtain Infernal Compass as a key to enter, and the higher the compass level, the more difficult the enemies and the more waves they spawn in Infernal Hordes.
Enemies in Infernal Hordes are counted in waves, up to 10 waves, each lasting 60 seconds. You need to survive all waves and collect the special currency, Burning Aether, to unlock the final boss fight.
The boss fight originally only included Fell Council members, but Season 10 added the optional boss Bartuc. Only by defeating the boss can you obtain the final chest rewards.
It's worth noting that between each wave of enemies, three Infernal Offers will appear, which you must choose. They function similarly to combat modifiers, each containing one buff and one debuff; all effects you choose will stack throughout the rest of the game.
Compass to Carnage provides comprehensive buffs based on the core gameplay, specifically including:
- Double Hell Compass drops during the event.
- Waves in Infernal Hordes will appear more frequently, helping you progress faster.
- More Burning Aether is obtained after defeating enemies.
Therefore, participating in Compass to Carnage essentially means investing more time in Infernal Hordes and obtaining more rewards in the same amount of time.
What is the value of Compass to Carnage?
As we've already discussed, this event actually allows you to gain more rewards in Infernal Hordes, primarily from chests obtained using Burning Aether after all battles.
There are three types of chests, containing gold, crafting materials, and gear of varying rarity, respectively. Mythic items are the best, but Obducite is also highly sought after as it's an essential material for Masterworking other Diablo 4 items.
Participating in Compass to Carnage means you can farm all of these rewards in large quantities for a short period. While not all loot will prepare you for the next season, you'll at least finish Season 11 stronger.
However, Compass to Carnage is less valuable than during Season 10 because previously you could obtain the seasonal Chaos Armor from Infernal Hordes to further enhance your character, but this is no longer possible.
Other tips for completing this event
First, you need to know how to obtain Infernal Compass. This item has a relatively wide drop rate; it appears in most endgame events after unlocking Torment difficulty, including:
- Helltides
- The Pit
- Nightmare Dungeons
- Reward caches obtained after completing Tree of Whispers bounty quests
Compasses can be obtained through reputation caches while playing content below Torment difficulty, but these compasses cannot generate Chaos Waves or unlock Bartuc.
It's worth noting that The Tower, which was released recently, does not drop this item - in fact, this dungeon does not drop any rewards! It is only related to leaderboards. Therefore, if you are only focused on items or gold farming, you can reduce your play frequency.
Another important factor is the choice of Infernal Offers; some offers can be effective against specific enemy types. However, given the high frequency of wave generation in Compass to Carnage, we recommend choosing general offers such as:
- The Exalted Hordes
- The Aether Goblins
- The Stalking Devil
Furthermore, during wave clearing, you need to ensure your movement speed is fast enough, as collecting burning ether requires traveling between various ether event locations. This can usually be achieved by upgrading your gear and its affixes.
When dealing damage, it's best to balance AoE and single-target damage, and try to attract monsters closer to you; otherwise, it may slow down your event progress.
These are the key points to consider when participating in Compass to Carnage. Take advantage of the event to participate and earn gold, materials, and the gear you need!
