In Diablo 4 Season 10, the developers overhauled Infernal Hordes mechanics, adding not only the new Bartuc boss, but also improved Aether rewards and a brand new battle type - Chaos Waves!

In Chaos Waves, waves of Chaos monsters swarm, and players can gain Shrine-like buffs by killing these enemies. These Chaos Waves offer a variety of unique combinations to explore and master.

So, here, we'll show you how to farm all types of Chaos Waves in Diablo 4 Infernal Hordes. This new mechanic, introduced in Season 10, is not only crucial to your Season Journey, but is also currently the best way to maximize Aether farming in Infernal Hordes.

Diablo 4 Season 10 Chaos Waves Guide | All Wave Types, Aether Farming & Infernal Hordes Tips

About Chaos Waves

Everything begins once you reach Chapter 5 and Bloody Warlord objective, which requires you to complete a series of missions in Infernal Hordes at Torment 2 difficulty or higher. Most missions aren't difficult, but Chaos Waves are different, so it's good to understand what to expect when they occur, especially since they're randomized.

The first thing you need to know is that entering a Chaos Wave is risky. If you die, you lose the round and don't receive any Aether.

Another important point is that Chaos Offerings that trigger a Chaos Wave are randomized, meaning they're not tied to how much Aether you've collected or which wave you're in.

However, when it comes to Aether, the more waves you encounter, the more Aether you'll collect. This is simple: as you progress, you'll activate several modifiers that grant more Aether based on the options you choose, though these modifiers also affect the difficulty of Chaos Waves.

Chaos Wave Types

Okay, now that we understand how Chaos Waves work, let's take a look at all the different types of Chaos Waves that can appear in Infernal Hordes.

1. Spawning Chaos Rifts & Aether Fiends

The first type of Chaos Wave, and the most common, spawns Chaos Rifts, Aether Fiends, and regular adds. Your goal is to eliminate Aether Fiends, as they are the only ones that provide Aether bonus.

Here, you can use the power or buffs stolen from Chaos Bringers to make this Chaos Wave easier. Additionally, Aether Fiends are highlighted on the mini-map, so of all the available Chaos Waves, I consider this one the easiest.

2. Spawning Chaos Rifts, Chaos Bringers And Hellwyrms

The second type of Chaos Wave spawns Chaos Rifts, which contain not only Chaos Bringers but also Hellwyrms. Hellwyrms are worms with giant mouths found in Helltide, where demons spawn.

However, in Season 10, demons will not spawn, only worms. They appear for short periods of time, so your goal is to find and kill them as quickly as possible. Rest assured, Diablo 4 gold rewards these monsters drop will make it all worthwhile.

There are two types of Hellwyrms. Large ones appear first, one after another. But after you kill a few of them, a group of three smaller Hellwyrms will appear simultaneously in the center of the arena. More large monsters will then spawn around them. Be aware that these changes happen quickly, so you must act quickly.

3. Spawning Aether Lords And Chaos Rifts

The third type of Chaos Wave spawns Aether Lords and Chaos Rifts. An Aether Lord spawns every few seconds. You need to kill them quickly, as fighting multiple Aether Lords simultaneously increases the difficulty exponentially.

Here, Chaos Rifts don't spawn Chaos Bringers, but instead empower Aether Lords, so you need to destroy them immediately upon sight.

4. Spawning Aether Mass

The fourth type of Chaos Wave generates a massive Aether Mass, which you need to protect from monsters spawned from Chaos Rifts. The higher the health of Aether Mass, the more Aether you gain.

It's worth noting that while you'll initially face just one Chaos Rift and a few minions, after about 30 seconds, things get frantic, and the best you can do is try to destroy Chaos Rift to prevent more enemies from spawning.

5. Spawning Spirits

The fifth type of Chaos Wave, and what I find the most challenging, requires you to capture Spirits. These are white spheres that you need to trap.

The difficulty lies in their small size and lack of visual indication on the mini-map, meaning you'll have to search every corner of the map to find them, which is incredibly time-consuming. Furthermore, these Spirits move very quickly, so you'll need a high movement speed.

To make matters worse, Chaos Rifts will randomly appear, creating a massive portal in the center of the arena from which Echo of Bartuc will emerge. Once Echo appears, he'll unleash waves of fire that travel across the arena in different directions, dealing significant poison damage, so be careful. If that's not enough, Burning Butcher will also join the fray, adding to the chaos.

These are all Chaos Wave types you'll encounter in Diablo 4 Season 10. Each wave brings different enemies, but the main quest is to acquire more Aether and loot. Master these techniques, and you'll easily be able to handle all the monsters and survive to the end.

Of course, if you want to improve your survivability in Chaos Wave to get rid of the frustration of unexpected death and losing all your Aether, then you can buy cheap IGGM Diablo 4 gold to equip uniques with higher resistances and armor.
