As an MMORPG based on the classic DC comic book series, DC Universe Online, released in 2011, is now in its 14th year. While its popularity is far from what it once was, it's still quite long-lived conpared with other games of its genre and released at the same time.

Thus, in 2025, you'll find not only people still playing the game, but also some players committed to exploring still-rare DC Universe Online gameplay, such as solo raiding.

So, what exactly is the challenge of raiding in DC Universe Online? Why is almost no one completing it solo? And is it even possible to do it solo? We'll answer these questions one by one.

DC Universe Online Solo Raids 2025 | How To Beat Fortress Of Solitude: The Chasm Alone?

What Are DCUO Raids?

Raids are a combat mode found in most MMORPGs. They typically require you to team up with multiple players to enter a dungeon and defeat enemies and bosses to earn rewards.

In DCUO, raids work much the same way. DCUO raids are divided into regular and seasonal & event raids, with the most standard team configuration being an eight-player squad.

Seasonal & event raids are determined by the current game activity. Regular raids are divided into seven tiers, each containing multiple specific raids with varying entry levels and the amount of DC Universe Online cash or other special rewards available.

Notably, the lowest entry level for Tier 1 raids is level 30, while Tier 2 and above require a minimum CR 60. Given the inherent difficulty of raiding and the limitations of individual skill, this solo raid attempt will be based on Tier 1.

Why Attempt A Solo Raid?

In any MMORPG, you'll find players who don't enjoy playing with friends. While part of the joy of MMORPGs is socializing and teaming up, and while teamwork can yield greater rewards, there are always those who simply enjoy navigating the crowds on their own.

Therefore, to enhance the gaming experience for these players, it's necessary to try out various DCUO modes solo to test feasibility and reward drops.

Improving Your Character

For safety's sake, we only recommend challenging Tier 1 raids solo. However, you don't need to limit your character to level 30; it's best to reach higher levels to avoid unexpected situations.

In addition, you can also equip ice powers and super speed, as well as some combat skills. Upgrading and equipping artifacts, if possible, is also essential.

Artifacts in DCUO are a new type of gear, with each character having up to three slots. After obtaining an artifact, you can upgrade it with Nth Metal, unlocking powerful bonuses and even new passive or active skills from levels 80 to 200.

Another unique advantage of artifacts over regular gear is that they offer long-term investment benefits that improve with character growth.

Carrying Allies

While this guide focuses on solo raid content, the allies system is still worth utilizing. In DCUO, you can think of it as a fusion of mechanics like pets or companions. Once activated, it assists you in combat and can be enhanced.

To enhance allies, you need to collect Ally Favor by participating in activities. Different allies have different abilities, and you can equip up to one combat ally and two support allies per battle.

Using Fortress Of Solitude: The Chasm As An Example

There are nine Tier 1 raids in DC Universe Online in total:

  • Kahndaq
  • Batcave: Outer Caverns
  • Batcave: Inner Sanctum
  • Batcave: Brainiac Subconstruct
  • Fortress of Solitude: Chasm
  • Fortress of Solitude: Power Core
  • Fortress of Solitude: Sunstone Matrix
  • Themyscira: Gates of Tartarus
  • The Prime Battleground

For this reason, we chose Fortress of Solitude: Chasm, a moderately difficult Tier 1 raid, as a test case for the feasibility of solo play. While it's less exciting than the more challenging raids, this stable gameplay is precisely what the test needs.

Upon entering the raid, you'll first speak with Superman. He'll use his thermal vision to blast a tunnel into the fortress. It's best to follow him along a fixed path to avoid being hit by orbital bombardments from Brainiac ships.

Once through the tunnel, eliminate all enemies you encounter until you activate Brainiac Machine on the platform to summon the first boss, Sunstone Herald. This boss is tricky because it builds sunstone armor to reduce damage.

Overall, this boss isn't difficult to defeat. The key is to defeat it quickly, as prolonged battles will enrage it and instantly knock your team down. Continuing through the tunnels opened by Superman, you'll encounter the following bosses:

  • Sunstone Broodmother
  • Scorpionod MK-1
  • Sunstone Domineer and Krypto

How Did The Test Go?

Overall, at least for Fortress of Solitude: The Chasm raid, as long as you follow our recommended character builds, completing it solo is a bit challenging and dangerous, but not impossible.

From this, it can be inferred that Tier 1 raids with a lower difficulty level than Fortress of Solitude: The Chasm should be easier to complete, while higher levels will require upgrading your artifacts and allies.

Honestly, while possible, we still recommend completing all raids in a group. However, if you really want to try solo play or occasionally find yourself without a teammate, clearing some raids on your own can be quite enjoyable.

In addition to artifacts, regular gear and consumables are also essential items for playing DCUO raids. To obtain them in a timely manner, we recommend buying DC Universe Online cash at IGGM in advance so you can redeem the items you want at any time!
