WoW TBC Classic Anniversary Phase 2 Retribution Paladin Best Gear Setup Crafting: Boosting Hit and Expertise is Key!

Category: WoW TBC Classic Anniversary Posted: Jun 12, 2026 Views: 10

Since the release of WoW TBC Classic Anniversary Phase 2, the two raids have likely been the most perplexing aspect, as there's a significant gap between mastering their mechanics and truly conquering them.

Therefore, to clear them quickly with your teammates, you need to carefully select the most suitable gear setup based on your class and specialization. The most powerful gear may not be suitable for you, and an incorrect setup can lead to less effective results.

Based on this, this guide analyzes the best gear setup for playing Retribution Paladin, one of the generally popular DPS specializations. Even if you don't play this specialization, you can still try it by switching or creating a new character!

Retribution Paladin overview

Paladin class has three specializations, with Retribution Paladin belonging to DPS category. While DPS is a more scarce raid teammate in Phase 2 tanks, it remains essential to ensure sufficient damage output during combat.

This specialization is characterized by not only generating significant individual damage output in combat through Crusader Strike and other optimized skills, but also providing a critical strike chance bonus to the entire raid group through Improved Seal of the Crusader.

Most of the time, being in a melee raid group will allow you to contribute more as a Retribution Paladin, and the high-level buffs you need are relatively scarce in 10-man raids, but this is generally not a concern in most 25-man raids.

Of course, this class isn't perfect. Its problems lie in the high difficulty of operation due to the tedious seal twisting rotation, and weak mana regeneration. You'll need to experiment with various methods to balance these issues.

Retribution Paladin Phase 2 gear core requirements

Before choosing specific items, you first need to clarify which attributes your BCC Anniversary character gear setup needs to improve the most. For Retribution Paladins, hits and expertise are paramount.

This is because if your attack misses or is dodged by the enemy, all seal effects will be ineffective, resulting in a significant drop in damage output and potentially causing raids or other dungeon farming to fail.

For TBC Classic Anniversary Phase 2 raids, you need to achieve at least a 9% hit cap and a 6.5% expertise cap through skill combos, gear, and potential buffs from teammates of other classes.

Therefore, the following skills are essential:

  • Maxed-out Paladin Precision: Increases hit chance by 3%.
  • Improved Faerie Fire from Balance/Resto Druid: Increases hit chance by 3% (provided the enemy has a debuff).
  • Heroic Presence from Warrior/Paladin/Hunter of Draenei race: Increases hit chance by 1%.

The remaining hit chance and all expertise increases will come from your gear. In WoW TBC Classic Anniversary, expertise is typically only gained through gear or racial traits.

Choose the right faction

Aldor or Scryers are the two factions in the game, and you can only join one at a time. While they are available from Phase 1, you can switch later as needed.

The reason for emphasizing these factions is that increasing your reputation level with them unlocks the ability to trade with quartermasters, allowing you to buy WoW TBC Classic Anniversary gold on IGGM to exchange for useful gear among the items they sell.

Fortunately, for Retribution Paladins, the potential gear gains from choosing either faction are roughly the same. However, if you must choose, we recommend Aldor because it offers better shoulder enchantments.

Optimal gear choices

Based on the essential prerequisites mentioned above, to begin a truly effective Retribution Paladin gear setup in Phase 2 raids, the first item to add should be the head armor, Furious Gizmatic Goggles.

This item not only improves your hit rate, but it's also easily obtainable through crafting in Phase 2, as long as you ensure Engineering is enabled in your profession and you've collected the necessary materials.

For shoulder armor, we recommend Shoulderpads of the Stranger. It provides increased expertise and DPS, so you can even use it in later phases if you're still playing Retribution Paladin.

For back armor, you can choose between Thalassian Wildercloak and Razor-Scale Battlecloak, but if your agility-based teammates are already equipped with the former, you should avoid it.

The best Retribution Paladin chest armor for BCC Anniversary Phase 2 is Bulwark of Ancient Kings, and it works even better when paired with the weapon Twinblade of the Phoenix.

As for bracers, if you've been using Bladespire Warbands since Phase 1, congratulations, you've saved yourself the trouble of changing them, unless you can't gain enough expertise from other gear and abilities.

In that case, it's best to switch your bracers to Bracers of Eradication.

Next, your choice of gloves greatly affects your ability to improve expertise. Ideally, you should complete Tempest Keep raid with the help of teammates and obtain Gloves of the Searing Grip. If that's not possible, Grips of Deftness are also a viable option.

Shattrath Leggings, as leg gear, can further improve your expertise, provided you haven't chosen Human race.

The following are the optimal Retribution Paladin gear options for other slots:

  • Feet Armor: Cobra-Lash Boots
  • Neck Jewelry: Pendant of the Perilous
  • Ring Jewelry: Shapeshifter's Signet
  • Trinket: Dragonspine Trophy
  • Libram: Libram of Avengement

It's worth noting that the optimal gear we've listed isn't the only solution. As long as you consistently focus on improving hit rate and expertise, and ensure effective synergy between gears in different slots, other items are also viable.

That concludes this guide. If you're interested in Retribution Paladin specialization, this guide should be helpful!
