WoW TBC Classic Anniversary Outland Leveling And Preparation Guide | Avoid These Early Mistakes!

Category: WoW TBC Classic Anniversary Posted: Feb 05, 2026 Views: 6864

The Burning Crusade anniversary is approaching, and whether you're a veteran or a first-time adventurer in Outland, after crossing Dark Portal, you'll need to prioritize your main character and alts.

When you first embark on your TBC journey, the early game is incredibly packed with content. Therefore, the first few weeks will be the busiest of the first phase. Knowing in advance what needs prioritization will give you a head start over other players.

WoW TBC Classic Anniversary Outland Leveling And Preparation Guide Avoid These Early Mistakes!

Early Preparations

World Buffs

In the early stages of the game, you'll likely have some world buffs saved through Chronoboon Displacer. It's recommended that you plan carefully and utilize these buffs for the most efficient activities during their approximately 2-hour duration. Because after this, the number of players participating in the level 60 content will decrease drastically, making it difficult to obtain new world buffs.

Leveling Strategies

In TBC, you'll face a choice: quest in the open world or grind dungeons for leveling? The leveling process in TBC is more linear than in Vanilla World of Warcraft, arguably the most linear expansion leveling experience ever designed by the developers, with a very fixed leveling path.

Some classic leveling spots will be extremely crowded, which makes it difficult to play normally. Although many servers have been provided by the developers, competition for quest items and resources will be exceptionally fierce.

Therefore, while dungeon spamming is somewhat tedious, it allows you to avoid crowds and level efficiently. If you can join a consistent group, your leveling efficiency will be even higher.

Dungeon leveling has another significant advantage: while gaining experience, you also accumulate the necessary reputation to unlock Heroic dungeon keys. Since you gain reputation in dungeons, it doesn't consume reputation-rewarding quests in the open world, which you can save for later to grind Revered reputation.

During Open World launch and the following days, even the first weekend, assess the open world's congestion based on your login time. Even if you're not keen on dungeon grinding, this strategy is worthwhile for now.

Recommended dungeon leveling route:

  • Level to 62 in Hellfire Ramparts
  • Level to 64 in Blood Furnace
  • Level to 67 or 68 in Slave Pens at Coilfang Reservoir
  • Level to 70 in Auchindoun dungeon cluster

Shattrath City

After arriving in Outland, it's recommended to head to Shattrath City in Terokkar Forest as soon as possible. Along the way, you can collect flight points for various areas, passing through Hellfire Peninsula, Zangarmarsh, and Terokkar Forest.

Upon arrival, you can immediately acquire a flight point. Shattrath City, located in the heart of Outland, will serve as your primary hub throughout the expansion. More importantly, Shattrath City possesses portals to the major cities of Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.

Additionally, if you wish to unlock dual specializations, you'll need to return to the capital cities (Stormwind/Orgrimmar) and take 50 WoW TBC Classic Anniversary gold to unlock them. Binding your Hearthstone to Shattrath City allows for quick return to Old World and rapid flight to any area of Outland.

Faction Selection

Shattrath City also features two factions: Aldor and Scryers. After completing City of Light questline, you can choose to join one of them. This faction choice will affect your shoulder enchantments, profession recipes, and some gear acquired in the early TBC.

However, you don't need to rush into a decision, as you'll need to be at least level 64 to turn in reputation items like Fel Armaments or Arcane Tomes. Generally, Aldor is better suited for melee DPS and tanks, while Scryers are more suited for healers and casters.

Preparing for Raids

In the first few weeks, completing Karazhan raid prerequisites will be one of your main goals. If you're in a guild, it's best to find a group of players at the same stage of the attunement quest to progress together.

It's confirmed that the raid difficulty in the first phase of TBC Anniversary Edition will be a nerfed version, meaning they'll be significantly easier than players remember, but even so, you should still be prepared before attempting them.

You can also start Nightbane questline early to prepare for defeating Karazhan when it opens.

Important Dates:

  • Raids will open two weeks after the expansion's release, on February 19th.
  • The first season of PvP Arena will start two days earlier, on February 17th.

This means you have a full two weeks to level up, acquire gear through heroic dungeons, complete attunement quests, etc.—a very generous amount of time.

Regarding PvP, multiple factions offer PvP gear upon reaching Honored reputation. Additionally, a set of PvP gear redeemable with honor points is now available, and remember to claim it.

Professions

Most major crafting professions in TBC have specialization options, unlocked upon reaching specific skill levels and character levels. Crafting some TBC items requires you to have completed the corresponding specialization.

Tailoring

At level 60 and with 350 skill, you can choose to specialize in Mooncloth, Shadoweave, or Spellfire. After specializing, crafting the corresponding cloth has a chance to yield multiple drops (but you can still craft the other two cloths).

Alchemy

At level 68 and with 325 skill, you can specialize in Transmutation, Potions, or Elixirs. Specializing in these areas grants a chance to obtain additional rewards when crafting the corresponding items. Early on, Transmutation is generally the preferred specialization because Primal Might is an essential ingredient in many crafting recipes.

Cooking And Fishing

In the early stages of TBC, due to the large number of players leveling and listing materials on the auction house, leveling cooking skill is relatively low-cost. Various recipes can usually be obtained through reputation with various factions throughout Outland.

Additionally, Outland has added daily cooking and fishing quests. These don't require much time, and the reward items can be used for cooking, and occasionally, you'll receive Rare or epic quality rewards.

These are the things you need to pay attention to after Outland opens in WoW TBC. It's recommended that you avoid highly competitive areas even if they are the optimal route. This may actually make your leveling speed faster.
