Greetings, although WoW Classic 20th Anniversary servers are nearing their end, and we are about to welcome the new Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary realm, this doesn't mean completely abandoning the old servers is a wise decision. After more than a year of playing, we have a deep understanding of the class characteristics on the Anniversary servers, which classes perform best, and which specializations are most likely to excel in TBC.
Therefore, here we will analyze the class rankings in WoW 20th Anniversary. A wise choice will help you have better team support capabilities, an easier leveling/grinding experience, and higher demand in raids and dungeons after entering the TBC Anniversary pre-patch.

1. Warlock
First is Warlock, which dominates in WoW 20th Anniversary and is highly likely to remain one of the strongest DPS classes on TBC Anniversary server.
Why? This is because Destruction Warlocks can deal incredible single-target damage, especially during Heroism/Bloodlust buffs.
Currently, Warlocks have two playstyles. One is the Shadow spec, focusing on Shadow Bolt; the other is the Fire spec, focusing on Incinerate. There's also Affliction Warlock, which, while not a top-tier DPS spec, provides important debuffs like Malediction, which increases the damage of Curse of the Elements.
Most raid team compositions include three to five Warlocks, mainly with Destruction spec, plus one Affliction spec for applying debuffs.
It's worth mentioning that Warlocks also have the opportunity to deal massive area-of-effect damage when clearing mobs with their AoE skill, Seed of Corruption. Therefore, whether dealing with raid bosses or killing mobs to farm WoW Classic 20th Anniversary gold, they are an excellent choice.
Warlocks have excellent scaling at every stage of the game, especially after acquiring new gear sets. Furthermore, they can gain unlimited mana through Life Tap, and the team-wide Bloodlust effect resets their skill cooldowns, greatly enhancing their burst potential. Therefore, the conclusion is that the Warlock is likely to be the first class to shine in the Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary Edition.
2. Hunter
Next is Hunter, who were top-tier in the early game and remains so, even becoming stronger.
Because pets inherit the Hunter's attack power and critical strike chance, their growth potential is excellent. Beast Mastery, which increases pet damage, health, and Focus regeneration speed, and also allows pets to taunt enemies, provides very high DPS in the early game.
However, keeping your pet alive is crucial, as your DPS will drop significantly if your pet dies. With proper play, Beast Mastery spec has incredibly high output. While Hunters might see a slight dip in performance during Sunwell Plateau Raid, they remain competitive throughout Anniversary expansion.
In raid setups, many guilds will bring four Hunters, including 3 Beast Mastery specs and 1 Survival spec to apply Expose Weakness, significantly increasing the entire raid's attack power.
3. Shaman
Then there's Shaman, who also received a significant boost in WoW 20th Anniversary, bringing a lot of utility. And with the introduction of Draenei in TBC Anniversary, Shamans are now playable in TBC Anniversary.
Furthermore, Bloodlust now affects the entire raid and resets after killing a boss or wiping, which is a huge boost for Shamans in raid setups.
In raid configurations, Enhancement Shamans are almost essential for melee teams, increasing the team's attack power by 10%. Compared to Elemental Shamans, their DPS is weaker in early raids, but they start to shine and surpass the latter in the later stages of the game.
As for Elemental Shamans, Totem of Wrath remains very powerful for caster and healing classes, and synergizes well with Haste and Crit. They have strong and consistent DPS in the early game, but their performance declines in the later stages compared to Enhancement Shamans, Warlocks, and Hunters.
There are also Restoration Shamans, who, thanks to Earth Shield talent, are excellent tank healers. Also, Mana Tide Totem now restores 6% of mana per tick, instead of a fixed amount.
Therefore, every raid still needs a Shaman. In the early stages of TBC, each raid group would have four to five Shamans, but in later stages, this could increase to as many as six, especially with the increase in melee DPS.
4. Mage
Next is the Mage, who was very powerful in the early stages.
Arcane Mages were a top-tier DPS class in the early game, with a damage rotation basically consisting of spamming Arcane Blast, and with the buffs of Arcane Power and Presence of Mind, they possessed immense burst damage. However, their DPS would significantly decrease in the later stages.
As for Fire Mages, every Fire Mage now applies their own Ignite debuff to the target. And unlike in WoW Classic, you're not limited to only applying one debuff to the boss. Therefore, if you are a Mage and have the Ignite skill, you will gain a significant DPS boost.
In short, in the early stages of WoW TBC Classic Anniversary, Mages could be very powerful, but once it reached the mid to late game, their strength decreased, making them more suitable for support roles.
5. Paladin
Ranked fifth are Paladins, who shine with their new abilities and are available to both factions.
Regarding specializations, Protection Paladin is the best AOE tank in Anniversary Edition. Their Avenger's Shield talent is not only excellent for pulling mobs, but also holds its own in single-target tanking, as it provides a shield that absorbs 60% of the damage dealt for 8 seconds.
Retribution Paladins gain much-needed depth to their skill rotation with Crusader Strike ability. It's clear that this class is still more focused on support functions than DPS specialization. So they are definitely a viable option, just not a top-tier DPS choice.
Holy Paladins offer the strongest single-target healing ability in the class, Divine Illumination, which reduces mana cost by 50% for 15 seconds. Therefore, although this spec is slightly lacking in raid healing, it is unmatched in tank healing.
Overall, Paladins provide immense support and play a crucial role, especially for players who like strong self-healing and self-sufficiency.
6. Warrior
Ranked sixth on the list is Warrior, whose performance has also undergone some significant changes since the expansion's release. In WoW 20th Anniversary, their burst damage was very high, especially in terms of critical hits, while in the TBC version, their damage became more stable. Now, their output is highly dependent on weapons; if you give them a set of Warglaives of Azzinoth, they can dominate the rankings.
So, in the early game, their performance might be slightly inferior to Warlocks, Hunters, and Mages; but in the later stages, with the right weapons, they can become top-tier DPS.
As for specializations, perhaps only Protection Warrior is worth trying, because Devastate skill makes stacking Sunder Armor easier, resulting in decent single-target output, but it's generally overshadowed by Protection Paladins and Feral Druids. Simply put, they are strong, but not essential.
7. Rogue
Next is Rogue, whose strength has declined significantly compared to the beginning.
Their Combat Rogue specialization mainly revolves around Improved Expose Armor, but this requires an Armor Penetration gear set to keep up, and these items are usually only available in the later stages of the game.
As for Subtlety Rogues, they are the kings of PvP. With Shadowstep, they can deal massive burst damage, allowing them to teleport behind the target, gaining a 70% movement speed bonus and enhancing the next damage ability.
However, although Rogue's strength improves in the later stages, the Warrior still takes priority in gear allocation because the Warrior's performance is slightly better than Combat Rogue. Therefore, in raids, teams usually only bring one Rogue, after all, their PvP control is very effective.
8. Priest
Ranked eighth is Priest, who possesses powerful healing abilities and important team support capabilities.
In terms of Holy Priest, they have one of the best team healing skills in the game, so most raid teams will bring at least one Priest.
In terms of Discipline Priest, they have excellent support skills such as Pain Suppression and Power Infusion. Although their healing output is not as high as Holy Priest, their mana burn is also very useful, and their survivability is good with the right gear.
Shadow Priest specialization can provide mana regeneration for Hunters, Mages, and Warlocks. Therefore, they are usually included in raid teams because their Misery talent increases the spell damage taken by the target by 5%, which is almost indispensable. However, Priests typically perform well in early raids like Karazhan, but their power declines significantly in the later stages of the game.
9. Druid
Last on the list is Druid. All of its specializations gain Cyclone, one of the best PvP control abilities Druid has ever had in the game, and it excels in long battles and raid survival.
Their Feral Druid specialization is primarily used for tanking. Thanks to the Mangle ability, they have excellent single-target threat generation; and Leader of the Pack provides a 5% critical strike chance for melee and ranged attacks. However, the overall DPS of Feral Druids is relatively weak.
For Balance Druids, Moonkin Aura critical strike bonus is increased from 3% to 5%, and Improved Faerie Fire also adds a 3% hit chance for the entire team. However, their overall DPS is weak, and they face mana issues throughout the expansion.
Summary
So, in terms of overall performance in WoW Classic 20th Anniversary, the biggest winners are clearly Warlocks, Hunters, Shamans, and Mages; while the worst performers are undoubtedly Rogues, Druids, and Discipline Priests in early raids, although they have good support abilities, they are not mainstream DPS.
Now that you know this, have you decided which class you're going to play? Which specialization will you start with in the new TBC raids? See you next time!
