AION 2 DPS Classes Performance Review Based on Diverse Combat Environments and Requirements

With the global launch of AION 2 just two weeks away, we can already draw several preliminary conclusions based on the two Launch Scale Tests that have concluded, specifically regarding the basic performance of each class.

Like most MMORPGs, AION 2 classes can be broadly categorized into three types: DPS, Tank, and Support. Generally speaking, at least in the early stages of the game, DPS classes are highly popular and essential for clearing dungeons and raids.

There are currently nine playable classes in the game. Those with DPS-oriented characteristics primarily include Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, and Spiritmaster. While Templar and Gladiator lean more towards the tank role, they are also viable options for dealing damage.

As for the Brawler, since it is the newest class, there are relatively few players with fully optimized gear, and the performance data is inconsistent; therefore, we are excluding it from this initial assessment.

Based on the information above and observations from LST, we present a preliminary evaluation of Aion 2 DPS classes to help you decide which one to play when the game officially launches.

What criteria define DPS strength?

When evaluating the strength of Aion 2 classes, particularly DPS classes, one should avoid blindly chasing meta picks or focusing solely on raw damage numbers. Instead, a comprehensive assessment across multiple dimensions is required.

First, consider the time factor: fast-paced skirmishes and raids lasting anywhere from several minutes to over half an hour place vastly different demands on DPS classes.

The former favors classes with high burst potential, while the latter prioritizes sustained, consistent performance.

Furthermore, it is important to analyze a class's damage output not only with various buffs applied but also in terms of NDPS, damage calculated based solely on independent skills and gear strength, excluding all external enhancements.

Finally, as gear quality improves, clear times for standard AION 2 dungeons will inevitably decrease. When combat duration is compressed to the extreme, the numbers produced by burst-oriented DPS classes stand out significantly, often masking their weaknesses in prolonged battles.

Assassin takes the top spot

Based on current AION 2 combat mechanics, Assassin appears to be the top-performing DPS class. Thanks to an exceptionally high uptime on burst phases, this class dominates both short-duration encounters (around 20 seconds) and Endgame Conquest modes, boasting massive damage peaks.

However, in prolonged dungeon runs or raids, Assassin's damage output levels off after the burst window ends; while its advantage becomes less pronounced, its overall average damage remains impressive.

Therefore, if you are chasing peak DPS, and especially if you want to rapidly farm Aion 2 Kinah solo during the game's early stages, the fast-paced Assassin is an excellent choice.

Do note, however, that this class has a steep learning curve; it requires proficient MMORPG skills and quick reflexes. Proceed only if you are confident in your mechanical abilities.

Gladiator and Templar underperform expectations

Gladiator presents one of the most striking performance discrepancies in Aion 2. In undisturbed dummy tests, the class easily outperforms other DPS classes thanks to skills with high damage coefficients.

Yet, in actual Endgame Expedition or Conquest scenarios, its final damage output falls far short of expectations, barely edging out support classes. It also ranks low in the latest Transcendence dungeons.

This is primarily because Gladiator relies heavily on maintaining a continuous attack flow to reach peak damage, a rhythm easily disrupted by the movement, dodging, and mechanic shifts required in real combat.

Consequently, unless the development team makes adjustments, blindly choosing Gladiator will probably put you at a disadvantage.

As for Templar, the issue is that while it performs well in dummy tests, its core value lies in tanking damage and crowd control rather than DPS.

Given the game's ongoing updates and the class's hybrid nature, balancing defense and utility, it remains a role defined by survivability and support rather than raw damage output.

Indispensable ranged DPS for raids

While Assassins reign supreme in burst-down scenarios, ranged sustained-DPS classes, Ranger, Sorcerer, and Spiritmaster, offer irreplaceable stability in challenging dungeons and lengthy raids.

Sorcerers, in particular, excel in large-scale raids. Its combination of sustained high-level spell-casting and high-pressure burst damage allows for consistent performance during mechanic-heavy, long-duration encounters, alongside exceptional adaptability to various combat environments.

Ranger's strength lies in its high mobility and agility, allowing it to deal damage while repositioning, virtually unimpeded by complex combat mechanics.

Conversely, for high-difficulty dungeons requiring prolonged engagements, Spiritmaster's DoT and debuff mechanics generate a remarkably consistent damage output, with performance that becomes increasingly reliable as the battle drags on.

How to choose the right DPS class for yourself?

Based on the review above and the current Aion 2 game environment, finding the right DPS class starts with identifying your primary playstyle.

If you prioritize efficient daily farming and rapid, burst-heavy kills, Assassin is your best bet. The new Brawler class is also worth considering, even if its performance is currently somewhat inconsistent.

If your goal is to tackle challenging large-scale dungeons or raids, a more reliable approach is to pick one of the three ranged DPS classes that appeals to you and master it through practice.

Of course, by the time Aion 2 officially launches, the development team will inevitably make adjustments based on live-server performance and player feedback. While DPS class tier rankings may shift, the top choices for the short term are likely to remain stable.
