As we all know, the main quests in Diablo 4 are crucial to completing the season journey. They are not only the key to filling the plot puzzle, but also an important way to get gold and XP rewards and accelerate character upgrades.

But this does not mean that other quests besides the main quests are completely unimportant. Although you can skip them when appropriate, completing some extremely challenging side quests can indeed bring you an unparalleled sense of accomplishment, not to mention that some side quests may bury unique collectibles and reveal hidden plots.

Lost Legacy Side Quest Rewards

Today, we will introduce you to a very interesting side quest in Diablo 4 Season 9, Lost Legacy.

This quest is very important because it will take us to visit Inside the Black Tomb for the first time, which is actually the resting place of Mephisto’s host in Diablo 2.

Diablo 4 Season 9 Lost Legacy Side Quest Guide: How To Complete The Quest And Unlock The Unique Armor Transmog?

This story will show us everything that happened after the battle with Mephisto in Diablo 2. In addition to the wonderful lore, we will also receive some rewards, besides Hawezar Renown, Diablo 4 gold and XP that scale with the level, and the most important one is an item similar to the classic Monarch Armor Transmog from D2.

This Armor Transmog is actually Paladin Lord’s Bulwark in Diablo 4, and it looks exactly like the old Monarch Armor.

Of course, in addition to the classic appearance, the effect of this shield itself is very important, because it has 4 slots that can be used to craft Runewords. I think it’s very cool that they included this transmog in Diablo 4, and it also tells us something about the subsequent development of Paladin and Zakarum after the events of Diablo 2.

How To Complete This Quest?

1. Find And Talk To Ksenia

To start the Lost Legacy quest, you need to teleport to Ruins of Rakhat Keep, and from there go southwest, and you will find Ksenia.

Ksenia asks us to clean up everything in Defiled Halls that was corrupted by Mephisto. Once we enter Defiled Halls, we will receive an urgent letter that will tell you everything that has happened.

The owner of this letter is Paladin Marshal Carthas, who, along with his trusted followers, including Alodia, Elazar, and Mathias, voluntarily sealed themselves in this place. Although they have been corrupted by Mephisto, they have not forgotten their mission and have been firmly guarding Sankekur’s remains here.

From this point on, things start to get more and more interesting. You may not remember that Sankekur is the person who served as Mephisto’s host in Diablo 2.

Sankekur was once Que-Hegan of the corrupted Zakarum Faith, who possessed Sapphire Soulstone like Neyrelle in Diablo 4.

Defiled Halls are where Sankekur fell, and even after his death, his body is still under the influence of Mephisto’s demons.

Now, we know that Paladin Marshal Carthas brought the bodies here to prevent corruption from spreading throughout the area.

2. Defeat Paladins Corrupted By Mephisto And Collect All Sword Artifacts

So back to the quest, we need to find and kill Alodia, Elazar, and Mathias, collect Sword Artifacts they drop, and finally face Carthas, as they are all corrupted by Mephisto.

As we find each character, they give us some interesting insights into what happened to them.

First up is Mathias, who was the first to be corrupted by Mephisto. But Mathias’s blade is stained with the blood of his fellow Paladins.

After that, we find Alodia, who watched her fellow Paladins betray Carthas, so she killed all of them in anger.

And finally Elazar, who refused to draw his sword on his fellow Paladins, but his blade is still stained with his own blood.

So, we now know that both Mathias and Alodia were driven mad by Mephisto’s corrupting power and killed their fellow Paladins, however Elazar was clearly more powerful and decided to commit suicide rather than fight his companions.

3. Summon And Kill Carthas

After reaching the end of the dungeon, we need to place Sword Artifacts to summon Paladin Marshal Carthas. Once you summon him and kill him, we can hear the undelivered letter to Zakarum Faith.

Carthas eventually left a message before being completely controlled by Mephisto’s magic: Although Sankekur was defeated by them, the evil power still exists and continues to corrupt every Paladin. However, this did not hinder their faith, because they always knew that they were truly fighting for the light. Darkness will never extinguish the light.

Complete Remembering The Fallen Quest

After we have cleared all the monsters corrupted by Mephisto, it is time to teleport to the town of Zarbinzet. You will find Ksenia in the northwest of the town. She remembers her fallen comrades, and her goal is to engrave the memory of each Paladin companion who has passed away in stone as an epitaph to honor the fallen Paladins of Zakarum.

Ksenia states that many Paladins do not believe in these secrets, or even completely resist the existence of these companions who once died in the fight to defeat source of evil.

However, we can help her by providing her with enough support to properly remember the dead. The tombstone is just a few steps away from where Ksenia is standing, and after you finish talking to her, you can pay your last respects and these holy warriors will finally get the rest they deserve.

This will complete Remembering the Fallen quest, and you will be rewarded with Paladin Lord’s Bulwark, which is the shield used by Carthas himself. However, only Necromancer class can currently use this Armor Transmog.

Overall, this side quest gives us a challenge for a reason, as it is closely related to the story of Diablo 4. By completing these side quests, all the hidden plot clues gradually become clear, and we may be only one step away from uncovering the final secret!
