Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred Leak Points to Warlock Class | Blood, Demons, and a Frontline Spellcaster?

Recently, a major leak has surfaced regarding the second class in Diablo IV's second expansion, Lord of Hatred. The leaked images appear to be the first glimpse of the second class to be introduced with the expansion.
The new classes seem to confirm player speculation: a new spellcaster class, the opposite of Paladin, who represents angels, wielding the power of darkness.

Leaked Image
In the initial reveal of Lord of Hatred expansion, the first new class was announced: Paladin. It was previously stated that players who pre-ordered the expansion could experience the class early in Season 11. Subsequently, it was confirmed that the expansion would include a second, yet-to-be-announced, new class.
The leaked images originated from a Chinese video website and were subsequently reposted on other Chinese websites and appeared on Diablo-related forums.
On the right side of the leaked image is Paladin we know, wielding a shield and hurling Holy Hammer. On the left, a character resembling the second new class appears.
New Class Appearance
Since official information about the new class hasn't been released yet, let's analyze its appearance to speculate on its type.
This new class appears to be a spellcaster, but it wields a massive curved sword, indicating that like Barbarian, it uses two-handed swords. This might offer Barbarian players more Diablo 4 items to choose from.
Most strikingly, the character's overall silhouette is predominantly red. While its magical effects incorporate dark purple, the core remains a vibrant red. Parts of its sword or the magic infused into it are red, its clothing is predominantly red, and its large-scale spells are also predominantly red.
This red theme easily evokes memories of Blood Knight from Diablo Immortal. However, the leaked character's design differs significantly from Blood Knight. Its arms are wrapped in rope-like red magical energy, and the spells it's casting appear to be giant magical hands mimicking its arm movements. This rope-like red magic could be the manipulation and transformation of blood, or it could simply represent some kind of red-themed magic, such as demonic power.
Despite resembling a dark spellcaster, the character is physically imposing and wields a massive two-handed weapon, suggesting he might be a frontline spellcaster. This implies that even when primarily using magic, he will be at the forefront of melee combat. This is a stark contrast to existing classes in Diablo 4, which typically maintain a safe distance while casting spells, representing a novel direction in game design.
A close examination of the high-resolution concept art reveals that the character exhibits features resembling a hybrid of fish and amphibians, as evidenced by prominent gills. This is likely associated with the pirate region of Skovos. Players will likely need to venture underwater or similar environments to unlock the powers of the new class.
Lord of Hatred Trailer
Previously, in Lord of Hatred gameplay trailer, the silhouette of a second class appeared in shadow behind Paladin. That silhouette resembled a hooded Warlock with spiked or rounded protrusions on its sides.
The new character has two curved protrusions near the hilt of their sword, very similar to the jagged objects in the trailer's silhouette. The character also wears a long red cloak that wraps around their body when not in combat, and with the hood, it likely forms the slender, hooded silhouette seen in the trailer. While the details aren't perfectly identical, considering the difference between combat and non-combat stances, the design fit is quite high.
Data Mining
Further data mining by players has almost confirmed that the upcoming new class is indeed Warlock. A player performed data mining on PTR 2.6.0 and successfully obtained a link pointing to the leaked image, albeit at a higher resolution.
The most crucial evidence lies in the image's filename: 2DUI_Expansion2_Info_Page_01_WarlockUpdate_0.
If the character in the image represents the new class, then we can confirm that Warlock class will officially meet players this April. Its addition will undoubtedly bring a series of fascinating new mechanics to the game.
Speculation from The Player Community
This news has sparked heated discussions in the player community. Players have begun to speculate on the unique features of this class. It is widely believed that the core mechanics of Warlock may be related to Pacts, more specifically, Demonic Pacts, granting immense power through such contracts.
Furthermore, the player community mainly holds two speculations:
- Warlocks might be able to summon demonic minions to assist in combat.
- Warlocks themselves might transform into powerful demons.
If the design does not include summoning minions, then Warlocks might possess the ability to mind control demonic hordes, that is, to dominate or enslave demons and make them work for their own purposes. If Warlock is released in Season 12, considering its theme, its power may also be related to blood or combat.
This leak may have caught the developers somewhat off guard. They originally planned to officially announce the new class at Diablo 35th anniversary showcase on February 11th, and they were likely to follow the Paladin model, allowing players to experience the new class before Lord of Hatred launch to make balance adjustments and ensure a more level playing field for all classes upon expansion release. Even with this major leak, the developers will probably wait until the scheduled date to release specific information about the new class.
