MLB The Show 26 Misses PC Due to Tech, Cheating, and License Concerns | Yet MLB 27 Could Be Different

Category: MLB The Show 26 Posted: Jul 02, 2026 Views: 10

On July 9, 2026, College Football 27 will end its console exclusivity and officially launch on PC across all major platforms - welcome news for gamers who prefer playing on that ecosystem.

As of now, aside from MLB The Show series, nearly every major sports franchise - NBA 2K, EA Sports FC, Madden NFL, and CFB series - has already made its way to PC. That raises a natural question: why has MLB The Show 26 still not arrived on PC, and will MLB The Show 27 finally make the jump?

MLB The Show 26 Misses PC Due to Tech, Cheating, and License Concerns | Yet MLB 27 Could Be Different

Why isn't MLB The Show 26 on PC?

Baseball is enormously popular worldwide, especially in the United States, Japan, and Cuba. Fans enjoy not only playing the sport on real diamonds but also experiencing it through video games.

Given that the PC user base outnumbers console players, and a sizable portion of those users do not own a console, there is clearly a large pool of potential customers on PC. So why has the official studio behind MLB The Show shown little interest in tapping that market?

Technical constraints

The primary mandate of the development team has always been to serve PlayStation platform. Although MLB The Show 26 did reach Xbox and Switch owing to licensing agreements, a PC version would require optimization across an enormous variety of hardware configurations - a formidable challenge for a studio accustomed to developing for fixed hardware specs.

Furthermore, the series has always mandated controller use, while PC gamers are more accustomed to keyboard and mouse; balancing these control paradigms is another issue.

Anti-cheat concerns

Cheating has long plagued many PC titles. Not that console platforms are entirely free of cheating, but on PC the methods are more diverse and evolve more rapidly, and official countermeasures often cannot keep pace with new exploits.

Core modes in MLB The Show 26, such as Diamond Dynasty, rely heavily on fair online competition. The more open architecture of PC is seen as amplifying cheating risks - players might modify game files or exploit high-refresh-rate monitors to gain an unfair competitive edge. Developers also worry that data mining on PC could leak hidden in-game content well ahead of schedule.

Licensing Consideration

The rights holder, MLB, may also have reservations about piracy and cheating damaging the brand's image. At the same time, the primary market for sports games has always been on consoles, so allocating resources to a PC version naturally ranks lower in priority.

Official Policy Behind MLB The Show Series

The development team for MLB The Show 26 does not have the final say on which platforms the game appears on - that decision rests with the parent company.

The clearest signal came from that parent company's official filings. In its annual business report submitted to U.S. SEC in 2025, the company stated that to further expand the reach and commercial value of its intellectual properties, it planned to continue bringing first-party titles to multiple platforms, including PC.

Rumors of MLB The Show 26 coming to PC emerged around that same period, and the studio had already posted a job opening for a senior PC graphics programmer in 2025, which fans took as a hint that a PC version of MLB The Show was in development. As it turned out, that work did not materialize into MLB The Show 26.

However, in the 2026 report, that passage about PC and multi-platform strategy was entirely removed, replaced instead by a focus on film and television adaptations of their IPs.

This shift came about because the PC porting initiative had not generated the anticipated returns and had even affected PlayStation hardware sales. As a result, the company's strategy pivoted toward broad contraction, aiming to restore console exclusivity for its titles.

Will MLB The Show 27 come to PC?

From that perspective, a PC release for MLB The Show 27 seems unlikely - but the situation is not without hope.

Despite the strategic retrenchment, the company has not completely shut the door on PC. The parent company has indicated that decisions will be made on a title-by-title basis, depending on the game's nature.

Single-player, story-driven games will further enhance the unique experience and value offered on PlayStation and will remain console-exclusive going forward.

Meanwhile, online multiplayer service-oriented games will continue with a baseline strategy of simultaneous release on PS5 and PC to maximize the player base.

So while MLB The Show 26 has been confirmed to lack a PC edition, the odds for MLB The Show 27 appearing on PC are actually growing. Especially given that other sports games are rushing onto PC, the studio might accelerate the porting process for MLB 27.

PC Baseball Games

MLB The Show 26 remains the most authentic baseball simulation available, but its console exclusivity locks out many passionate baseball fans. If you are eager to play a baseball game on PC, there are alternatives.

eBaseball™: PRO SPIRIT 2026

If MLB The Show series ever lands on PC, its biggest rival would be eBaseball 2026 - a Japanese realistic baseball title scheduled for a Steam release on July 16, 2026.

This game offers a Japanese professional baseball experience that feels quite different from MLB The Show. Its physics engine is arguably more realistic, though in terms of player animation fluidity, MLB The Show remains the industry benchmark.

OOTP Baseball 27

If you enjoyed Franchise Mode in MLB The Show 26, then OOTP Baseball 27 is a solid choice. It focuses exclusively on long-term team building and fulfills every fantasy you might have about being a baseball manager.

It is regrettable that MLB The Show 26 did not come to PC, but next year may tell a different story. Regardless of which platform you favor, there is no need to rush - enjoy what you have now, and be patient.

Despite the competition on PC, MLB26 remains the best baseball game available today,You can buy MLB The Show 26 stubs from IGGM to unlock powerful players and gear, rapidly boost your team's strength, and build a championship-caliber roster.
