Diablo 4 Season 11 Latest Tempering Guide | How To Farm Scroll Of Restoration To Maximize Its Effect?

When Diablo 4 2.5.0 PTR first launched, players were very excited about the optimizations to the gear upgrade mechanisms and the addition of Sanctification, but they quickly found that they weren't as good as expected.
For example, during PTR, you would find that because Sanctification results were random and irreversible, it could potentially lead to your previously carefully crafted gear becoming less valuable.
Players criticized this, and to ensure the quality of the new season, the developers made further optimizations to these mechanisms after Season 11 launched. If you still use them based on your experience from PTR, you might not be able to utilize their full potential.
Therefore, this time we will mainly explain how to fully utilize Tempering to strengthen your gear after these changes, making your character more competitive than before.

How Does Tempering Work In Season 11?
Previously, when you completed other Diablo 4 challenges, you would encounter Temper Manuals as one of the loot drops. After learning this item, you could find Blacksmith and consume specific materials to Temper your rare or legendary item.
Each Temper Manual has its own exclusive pool of affixes. Tempering would randomly select a new affix for the gear, and you could obtain up to three new affixes.
Although you could consume a Scroll of Restoration (SoR) to re-roll if you were not satisfied with the result, the number of re-rolls was limited. This meant that if you were really unlucky, you might end up with three useless affixes after using up all your re-roll opportunities.
Fortunately, from Season 11 onwards, the entire Tempering system has changed, and further optimizations have been made based on the flaws in PTR.
Now, when you Temper your gear, instead of getting random affixes, you can choose a fixed affix from the learned manuals, and there is a chance to obtain a powerful Greater Temper affix.
Although the number of Tempering affixes that gear can obtain has been reduced to one, you can use a Scroll of Restoration to reset the value of the selected enhancement affix, and the affix itself can be upgraded.
Therefore, theoretically, as long as you have enough SoRs, you can continuously reset your affixes until you are satisfied. Thus, although the number of affixes is smaller, the efficiency of the bonuses is higher than before.
How To Use This Mechanism?
Although the core mechanics have changed, you still need to farm usable Temper Manuals first, and then right-click them in your inventory to learn them.
Manuals provide six types of Tempering effects, and different gear types can receive different types of effects:
- Weapons: Weapons, Totems, Focus
- Offensive: Amulets, Weapons, Totems, Focus, Gloves, Rings
- Defensive: Chest Armor, Helms, Legs, Amulets, Shields
- Utility: Chest Armor, Helms, Legs, Amulets, Gloves, Boots, Shields
- Mobility: Boots, Amulets
- Resource: Rings, Amulets
You can only apply one effect to a piece of gear at a time, and you can only select Tempering attributes from that category afterward. To change categories, you need to ensure you have available re-roll attempts.
Diablo 4 items required for Tempering include Veiled Crystal and Forgotten Soul, while the following three gear types require additional materials:
- Armor: Rawhide and Coiling Ward
- Weapons: Iron Chunk and Baleful Fragment
- Jewelry: Iron Chunk and Abstruse Sigil
Tips In Season 11
After completing the basic steps above, it's important to note that due to changes in mechanics in Season 11, you need to master additional tips to maximize the effectiveness of Tempering.
Generally, except for items that cannot be Tempered due to rarity restrictions, the upgrade steps for most gear are now Tempering, Masterworking, and then Sanctification.
Since gear cannot be changed after Sanctification, which is the final step, it's crucial to ensure you add the best Greater Affix when Tempering gear.
More importantly, this affix is not difficult to obtain. Generally, you only need to farm enough SoR and re-roll around 5 to 10 times to get one. Therefore, some players being overly cautious or stingy and not wanting to consume scrolls is completely wrong.
How To Obtain Scroll Of Restoration?
As one of the key items for completing Tempering, Scroll of Restoration can be obtained by farming Infernal Hordes.
After defeating all waves of enemies and the final boss, you can consume 200 collected Burning Aether to exchange for Spoils of Greater Equipment reward, which usually includes two scrolls.
More importantly, completing Infernal Hordes can also help you earn other loot, such as the commonly used gold, or Obducite, which can be used later in Masterworking.
Another method is to clear Dark Citadel. It's a cooperative dungeon in Vessel of Hatred expansion, and the optimal team configuration requires at least 4 players.
Upon completing this dungeon for the first time each week, you will receive a Weekly Rewards Cache, and during the clearing process, you can earn Citadel Coins, which can be exchanged for rare rewards - a Scroll of Restoration needs 2000 coins.
That's all the information and new tips you need to know about using the updated Tempering mechanism to enhance your gear. We hope you have a great time in Season 11 and enjoy playing!
