Happy New Year 2026, everyone! Diablo 4's updates this year are highly anticipated, with a new expansion and new classes launching in April.

The developers have stated that 2026 will be their best, perhaps even their best year ever. So let's take a look at Diablo 4's upcoming new classes, the date of the next season, and other content, including updates for other action RPGs in 2026.

Diablo 4 Roadmap 2026 Explained | New Classes, Season 12 Start Date, Lord of Hatred Expansion & More

January: Tower Launch

  • Date: January 12th (Monday)

Tower was originally scheduled to launch with Season 11, but the developers have chosen to delay it by a month for refinement. Although the developers rarely release content on Mondays, Tower will be available to players on Monday.

Its gameplay is similar to The Pit, but with a more detailed leaderboard. Players on the leaderboard can earn rewards such as cosmetics. Players can access it in-game by clicking on the obelisk in Cerrigar.

February: New Class Teaser

Diablo 4 New Class

According to the official roadmap, February portion is blurred, so there might be surprises. Therefore, it's expected that the second new class accompanying April expansion will be revealed around this time (the first being the already announced Paladin).

While this is speculation, revealing a new class two months in advance is reasonable for building hype and boosting DLC 2 sales, and the official approach was used when revealing Spiritborn class in 2024.

Lord of Hatred trailer already shows a silhouette of a new class. You can see an outline of what appears to be a new class behind Paladin. Its build doesn't look particularly strong, more like a spellcaster or assassin.

Considering the location of Lord of Hatred DLC, this new class might be Amazons. Many players speculate it could be a Demon Hunter or Oracle, but we'll have to wait for official confirmation.

March: Season 12 And Collaboration

  • Date: March 10th

Clicking on "Season" in the game will show how many days until the current season ends. Based on calendar calculations, it falls on March 10th, a date with an official accuracy rate of 90% for such announcements. Therefore, Season 12 is expected to launch on March 10th.

Additionally, according to the previously released 2026 roadmap, there will be another collaboration in March, expected to launch after Season 12. However, given the official's previous IP collaborations, we shouldn't expect too much unless they can design some events truly spectacular.

April: Lord of Hatred

  • Date: April 28th

Seven weeks after the start of Season 13, the major expansion Lord of Hatred will officially launch. It will introduce the new crafting system Hordric Cube and Amazon-style new area Skovos Isles. According to the official tweet, players will directly confront Mephisto, rather than his minions.

In addition to the above, this expansion will also introduce a brand-new Skill Tree, adding three enhancement paths to each skill. Not all existing skills will be retained; some legendary Aspect effects may appear as skill enhancements.

Besides the above, new features such as the loot filter, an upgraded Runes system, and some new modes will be added. These features may be tested in Season 12 PTR beforehand, and may be released with Season 12 or with Lord of Hatred DLC.

Summer: 30th Anniversary Celebration

2026 marks the 30th anniversary of Diablo series. Based on official statements, we can expect significant content announcements during the anniversary celebration. Considering they created legendary games like StarCraft, Warcraft, World of Warcraft, and Diablo II, the 30th anniversary celebration starting this summer is expected to bring surprises to players.

Since Lord of Hatred primarily focuses on fighting Mephisto, and many maps and storylines in the game world are still waiting to be explored. Therefore, it's possible for players to face Diablo in Diablo IV, and the official announcement of a third expansion, slated for release in 2027, is highly likely.

This content might be revealed at BlizzCon in September. Since the official have said that they will focus on Diablo IV for the long term, Diablo 5 is unlikely to be announced in the next few years. Ideally, players might see the announcement of a third expansion.

Rivals of Diablo IV in 2026

Diablo II

The official Diablo II account celebrated its 25th anniversary with the caption, "If you think you've seen and done it all, just wait for the chaos we've yet to unleash." This might hint at future updates for Diablo II: Resurrected.

There has also been speculation in the player community about adding Act 6 or endgame content. Considering the enduring popularity of Diablo II, we are very likely to see related new content in 2026.

Path of Exile And Last Epoch

The release schedules of Diablo IV, Path of Exile, and Last Epoch often overlap, creating competition between them.

According to an interview with Jonathan, the producer of Path of Exile, PoE 2 aims for a 2026 release. If this comes to fruition, it's expected to launch around December 2026. This will be an exciting time for ARPG fans, as it will also bring many new classes.

Last Epoch hasn't seen new content for a long time since being acquired by a new company, but the official announcement states that a new season, DLC, and new classes will be released in the first half of 2026, which is also something to look forward to.

Overall, compared to the relatively uneventful year of 2025, 2026 will be an extremely content-rich year for all ARPG players, with various ARPGs offering something to look forward to.
