Widespread ARC Raiders Bans after Headwinds Update | Is an Nvidia Driver to Blame?

Arc Raiders recently increased penalties for cheaters with a new three-strike system, imposing severe bans on repeat offenders.
However, following Headwinds update, a large number of Arc Raiders players were banned without any clear explanation. All affected players claimed they had not cheated or exploited any game glitches.

What Caused These Bans?
While cheaters do exist in Arc Raiders, they are relatively few, and official bans prevent them from participating in matches. Therefore, the large-scale banning phenomenon likely involves some misjudgments. On official Discord, Steam forums, and Reddit, many players insist they were banned without doing anything wrong.
However, some players have noticed a common thread among those banned: they claim they were banned after updating their Nvidia graphics card drivers to the latest version, 591.86.
Regardless of the reason, the newly introduced three-strike system has caused considerable concern among many players regarding their account security. The penalties are as follows:
- First offense (first strike): 30-day ban.
- Second offense (second strike): 60-day ban.
- Third offense (third strike): Permanent ban.
This means players have two chances to commit an offense before being permanently banned, and with the second expedition about to begin, this is a huge blow to players who were mistakenly banned.
Do Not Use Visual Manipulation Tools!
The official response has been largely silent, and customer service has been vague, only stating that due to privacy and security policies, they cannot provide specific details about account actions (including bans). This makes it difficult for players to ascertain the specific violations.
However, the reasons for bans are not entirely untraceable. The official team has recently begun cracking down on exploits that affect in-game visuals. Initially, they banned the use of Nvidia Filters. Subsequently, some players attempted to achieve similar effects through console commands or modifying game configuration files (.ini files), such as increasing brightness in dark environments. The official stance is that any behavior that bypasses official restrictions constitutes exploitation.
If the developer explicitly prohibits a feature, any attempt to achieve that feature through other means may be considered a violation. Therefore, even if a player hasn't used cheat software, using the following methods may still result in a ban:
- Using console commands for visual enhancements
- Editing game configuration files (.ini files).
- Using any third-party programs to simulate the aforementioned prohibited features.
How to Avoid The Risk of Being Banned?
To protect your account and avoid being mistakenly banned by the official developers, please follow these guidelines to avoid any risky behavior.
Absolutely Prohibited Behaviors
Do not use any workarounds to simulate disabled NVIDIA filter effects. Also, do not run any third-party programs simultaneously with Arc Raiders. It is recommended not to use any game overlay software other than Steam overlay.
In short, do not modify game files or use unofficial external tools. Developers can detect such behavior relatively easily; this is playing with fire and jeopardizing account security.
Safe Visual Adjustment Solution
ARC Riader has recently reduced the number of lights in Night Raid, making the environment darker. If you find the game too dark, adjust your display settings (this is the safest way):
Many modern displays have preset modes for different scenarios such as games and movies; please select the game mode. You can also appropriately increase the gamma value and fine-tune the white balance, which can effectively improve shadow details.
Make Good Use of In-Game Mechanics
Night Raid's dark environment is intentionally designed to create tension; it's part of the game mechanics. You can also use the legitimate tools provided in the game to cope with the darkness.
Enemies (whether other players or ARC) usually make sounds when they approach, so you can wear headphones, turn up the volume, and carefully listen for footsteps and environmental sound effects.
You can try Night Raid's audio settings; this mode amplifies key sound effects such as footsteps, which might be helpful.
The flashlight is an important tool in the game; it can be briefly used in dark areas to observe the environment. Use it cautiously in PvP environments to avoid revealing yourself, but it doesn't matter in PvE modes.
Keep The Game Environment Clean
When launching the game, close unnecessary background programs to ensure the game runs in its cleanest possible state. This helps avoid false positives from the anti-cheat system.
What if You Are Wrongly Banned?
If this is your first offense, you will usually only be banned for 30 days, not permanently. However, if you want to be unbanned faster, you can report it through official channels.
You can join the official Arc Raiders Discord and describe your situation in detail in Bug Reports section. The more people report it, the more likely the official team is to take it seriously and investigate potential issues.
While you may receive an automated response, you can still submit an appeal through official customer service channels. A large number of appeals regarding the same issue will be tallied and receive manual attention.
After your ban expires, before logging back into the game, please ensure that you are not running any third-party software that might trigger the anti-cheat system and launch the game in its cleanest possible state.
We hope this information provides clear guidance for all players. Please be cautious when updating NVIDIA drivers (591.86), and most importantly, enjoy the game in a safe and compliant manner.
