What's Next for World of Warcraft as Blizzard's 35 Years Celebration Begins? | State of Azeroth Revealed

Category: WoW Midnight Posted: Jan 27, 2026 Views: 882

If you were asked to list globally renowned game companies, Blizzard Entertainment would definitely be one of them. And its most famous and widely popular title is undoubtedly World of Warcraft series.

In 2024, World of Warcraft celebrated its 20th anniversary, launching dedicated new servers that allowed players to relive the classic WoW experience with improved graphics and settings, along with numerous optimizations.

Now, as we move into 2026, Blizzard's 35-year arrives. To mark this significant milestone, the team recently released a trailer titled "Blizzard: The Next Chapter," announcing commemorative new updates or events for four of their flagship games.

So what exactly did the trailer reveal, and what updates will the main attraction, World of Warcraft, receive? We'll provide analysis and predictions.

  • February 11 at 10:00 p.m. GMT

These four livestreams are spaced apart (except for the last two), so you might miss a later one. While replays or summary posts may be available, watching on time will give you firsthand information and a chance to win Twitch drop rewards.

What might World of Warcraft livestream cover?

This livestream will begin this Thursday (or Friday) and can be viewed on the official YouTube and Twitch channels. Executive Producer Holly Longdale and Game Director Ion Hazzikostas will be present to discuss game update plans and other arrangements.

If you watch the live stream on time and meet the required viewing time, you can receive a miniature version of Miniature Dark Portal decor as an exclusive housing decoration reward!

Currently, we don't know what this new update might be like, but the name "State of Azeroth" suggests it will likely be based on the current state of Azeroth, connecting the continent's past, present, and future to tell a broader story.

Azeroth is currently divided into four main continents by Great Sea: Northrend in the north, Pandaria in the south, Kalimdor in the west, and Human Kingdom & Dwarven City in the east. At its center is a vortex in Great Sea called Maelstrom.

State of Azeroth will probably not focus on a particular race or region, but rather expand the existing boundaries of Azeroth, uncovering stories in more unknown areas. And you, as an adventurer, will need to explore them all.

This means the game may introduce new races, classes, or other playable content. The update will also bring a series of brand-new quests, raids, and dungeons, giving you more motivation to earn WoW gold with its fresh appeal.

It's worth noting that the eleventh expansion for WoW, World of Warcraft: Midnight, will be released on March 2nd. In terms of story background, it's the second chapter of Worldsoul Saga, following The War Within.

Therefore, besides announcing the development plans and content of State of Azeroth, the developers may also reveal more details related to Midnight, and there might even be some connection between the two.

The current state of WoW series

Currently, the entire World of Warcraft series can be simply divided into three development modules: Retail, Wrath, and Classic.

  • Retail: Primarily refers to the main game version, all expansions, and the original version of upcoming expansions.
  • Wrath: A branch of the main Classic.
  • Classic: The original game, and new "progress" servers for some subsequent expansions.

From a developmental perspective, the original game laid the foundation for the core gameplay of the entire series. Following the release of The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King (2007-2010), the series experienced its first peak in popularity and player numbers.

After 2010, the release of further expansions, such as Mists of Pandaria, Warlords of Draenor, Legion, and more, further expanded the story of Azeroth, making the series' world-building more complete and expansive.

The release of the tenth expansion, The War Within, in 2024 signifies the start of a brand-new trilogy, Worldsoul Saga. The latter two are expected to be Midnight and The Last Titan.

While this development has been underway, the developers have also been gradually opening dedicated Classic or anniversary servers for more expansions in recent years, allowing veteran players to reminisce and new players to quickly integrate into the game.

It's clear that although WoW has been operating for over twenty years, player support and the developers' efforts have enabled it to continuously update and ensure the series remains vibrant.

Therefore, we can infer that Blizzard's 35-year plan for the latest update, State of Azeroth, will maintain the series' tradition of high-quality content, and there should be more anniversary events available after its release.

This concludes our speculation on the content of World of Warcraft: State of Azeroth, and a brief overview of other aspects of Blizzard's 35-year plan. Be sure to tune in to the live stream later if you want to learn more!
