With the official launch of WoW Midnight Season 2, most difficulty levels for Venomous Abyss raid, the core content of Patch 12.1, are now available. It's time to dive in and unlock exclusive loot!
We've put together a comprehensive guide to Venomous Abyss covering boss order, combat mechanics, and loot drops, ensuring you have a great experience right from the start.

Raid basic info & timeline
Venomous Abyss features five difficulty levels: Story, Raid Finder (LFR), Normal, Heroic, and Mythic. Following Season 2 launch on August 18, Normal, Heroic, and Mythic difficulties, along with LFR Wing 1, are available immediately.
The timeline for the remaining difficulties is as follows:
- August 25: Story Mode; LFR Wing 2
- September 1: LFR Wing 3
- September 8: LFR Wing 4
To enter Venomous Abyss, travel to the new zone, Coiled Isle. Locate one of the three entrances to Vaults of Atal'Utek; the raid entrance itself is found on the north side within the vault.

What is the boss order?
Once your team members have reached level 90 and an item level of at least 273, you can group up and take on Venomous Abyss raid.
Your ultimate goal is to defeat the final boss, Ula'tek. Before reaching that point, however, you must defeat seven preceding bosses in a specific order:
- Defeat the initial boss, Nek'zali the Soulcoiler.
- Tackle the bosses on the two flanks: Bosses 2 & 3 Entombed Sentinels & Vashnik the Malignant, and Bosses 4 & 5 The Lost Explorers & Sszorak. Don't forget to clear out the trash mobs along the way.
- Return to the central pit to challenge Boss 6, The Twin Fangs, which unlocks the final encounters: Bosses 7 & 8 The Coiled Altar & Ula'tek.
In short, you cannot skip or bypass bosses you find difficult; you must follow the prescribed progression to complete the raid. So, if you run into difficulties along the way, it is best to buy WoW Midnight gold on IGGM.com immediately.
With a plentiful supply of gold, you can unlock consumables for replenishment or items to upgrade your gear at any time. Even if you don't need them yourself, they make great gifts for teammates during emergencies.
Plus, if you place an order on IGGM after registering and logging in, you can earn points by IGGM check in. These points can be used to offset order costs or be redeemed for discount codes and cash coupons, allowing you to buy more gold for less money!
The first 7 boss fight mechanics
As the first boss you will encounter in WoW Midnight Season 2 Venomous Abyss raid, Nek'zali the Soulcoiler presents a challenge centered around Soulcoil Well located in the middle of the arena.
If a player in your group dies inside Soulcoil Well, or if a Restless Amani gets too close to it, Nek'zali receives a buff that significantly increases the difficulty of the fight.
The second encounter, Entombed Sentinels, actually comprises two simultaneous boss fights that split your group into two teams; you must adapt your combat strategy based on the specific sentinel you are facing.
The fight against Vashnik the Malignant is relatively straightforward, consisting of a single phase with repeating mechanics. You need to watch out for the boss gaining various buffs and abilities from three fountains located around the arena.
The Lost Explorers encounter plays more like a combat-focused mini-quest; you must face three specific mini-bosses, utilizing unique mechanics to defeat them and complete the required objectives.
The mechanics for Sszorak & The Twin Fangs are generally similar to those of Vashnik the Malignant. Success against the former relies on boosting your movement speed beforehand, while the latter requires you to avoid the boss's stacking Eternal Venom debuff.
The seventh encounter, The Coiled Altar, consists of three phases. Zul'jan and Hex Lord Malacrass appear sequentially in the first two phases, while the third phase sees them merge to launch a combined attack.
Overview of the final boss Ula'tek mechanics
Almost all boss encounters in Venomous Abyss raid are divided into multiple phases and feature specific mechanics. However, Ula'tek is undoubtedly the most challenging of them all.
During the boss fight, Ula'tek continuously generates pools of venom via Caustic Waves and spawns Blightscale Spawn; upon contact with the venom, these spawn hatch into Putrid Membrane, dealing damage to you.
Throughout the encounter, the boss casts Spectral Coils to trigger spatial tremors and subsequently summons additional types of special minions.
After the minions are defeated, Ula'tek shatters the arena, rallies forces using Call of the Serpent, and further devastates the battlefield with Circling Prey.

Venomous Abyss raid reward system
All bosses inWoW Midnight Venomous Abyss raid drop Mistcrests, with quality determined by the chosen raid difficulty. These items are used to upgrade gear obtained from clearing this raid or other Season 2 content.
Each Venomous Abyss boss drops specific gear, with bosses encountered later in the raid dropping more powerful items. On Mythic difficulty, gear dropped by The Coiled Altar and Ula'tek reaches item level 344.
In addition to specific gear, bosses 2 through 6 drop tokens that can be exchanged for the new Season 2 Tier Set armor. The final boss, Ula'tek, drops Slumbering Coil Curio, an item usable by all classes, which can be exchanged for a specific armor piece at Kirana.
Beyond gear and gear-related tokens, completing Venomous Abyss offers a chance to obtain new WoW Midnight transmogs, Primeval Skyfriend mount, and housing decorations.
Connection to Great Vault
Defeating 2, 4, or 6 bosses in Venomous Abyss raid (on difficulties other than Story Mode) adds corresponding loot options to Great Vault.
Great Vault is a special weekly reward system offering up to nine gear choices; you can select one item after completing the required objectives. Defeating Venomous Abyss bosses now contributes to your Great Vault progress.
Despite the wealth of new content in WoW Midnight Season 2, we recommend prioritizing Venomous Abyss raid. The rewards it offers will help you rapidly progress through other new challenges!
