Just one month after the release of RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0, we’ve received the 1.0.1 update. This update not only adjusts the equipment system but also adds special attack variants to different types of ranged weapons. Inventory capacity, resource gathering, enemy spawns, raid mechanics, and several crafting functions have also been adjusted.
More than simply adding equipment or improving stats, this update is more noteworthy because it changes how players organize their equipment, plan battles, and manage resource routes.
Especially for players challenging high-difficulty enemies, repeatedly completing raids, or continuously collecting materials, some seemingly insignificant changes can directly impact subsequent combat efficiency.
Three Ranged Weapon Types Gain Unique Special Attacks

This update brings unique special attack variants to Shortbow, Longbow, and Crossbow ranged weapon types, making the combat styles of different weapons more distinct.
Shortbow: Rapid Fire
When used, the character leaps backward and fires three arrows in quick succession. Players can switch targets during the burst, allocating the three attacks to different enemies. This move balances mobility and rapid output, making it suitable for scenarios requiring movement while fighting.
Longbow: Power Shot

The character kneels, draws the bowstring to its maximum, and fires a powerful arrow that deals high damage at a considerable distance. Compared to the rapid-fire of Shortbow, this move is better suited for finding opportunities to attack before enemies get close, or for preemptively striking at the start of combat.
Crossbow: Heavy Bolt
The character needs to briefly charge before firing a powerful crossbow bolt. It emphasizes not only single-hit damage but also triggers enchanted effects upon hit. This means the crossbow’s value is no longer solely dependent on the weapon itself but also on the enchanted ammunition used.
Additionally, the ranged skill tree has added Ammo Recovery and Greater Ammo Recovery. Once unlocked, players have the opportunity to recover arrows from defeated enemies. This is especially important in combat scenarios requiring prolonged monster kills and continuous ammo consumption, as it can alleviate resource replenishment pressure on players to some extent.
The update also adds the Low Blow skill perk: When a ranged attack hits an enemy’s lower body or legs, there’s a chance to inflict Hamstrung, briefly reducing the target’s movement speed. However, this effect does not apply to enemies that are exceptionally small or exceptionally large.
Death From Above! Arrives
RuneScape: Dragonwilds now includes a jump attack, with the corresponding perk name "Death From Above! ". After unlocking this skill, as long as the character is at the highest point of a double jump above the ground, an attack input can trigger a falling strike, slamming them down onto enemies below.
This ability adds a new way to initiate combat, especially suitable for using terrain height to approach enemies and quickly enter the battlefield.
The official announcement also notes that the damage of this attack scales based on the currently equipped weapon, so make sure you have a powerful weapon equipped before jumping to maximize the benefits of this new skill.
Equipment System Optimization: Rings and Amulets Can Be Equipped Simultaneously
The 1.0.1 update brings a useful improvement to the equipment system in Dragonwilds: the addition of independent ring and amulet slots. Previously, players had to choose between two types of trinkets when configuring their gear; now, they can enjoy the benefits of both rings and amulets simultaneously.
This adjustment expands the options for character builds and playstyles. Players can flexibly combine trinket effects based on different scenarios such as combat needs, skill progression, or resource gathering.
However, this improved convenience of the equipment system comes with balance adjustments to some items.
Among them, the Amulet of Glory has been nerfed. The official update notes state that the amulet’s previous bonuses exceeded the original design intent, hence the reduction in its value. Players who previously relied on this amulet to build their characters should reassess its benefits under the new values.
For players looking to accelerate character progression, strategically combining rings and amulets is just one aspect. Weapons, consumables, and crafting materials are equally important; it’s best to buy RuneScape Dragonwilds items based on your equipment needs and resource reserves.
Increased Backpack Capacity
In addition to equipment slot adjustments, 1.0.1 expands backpack capacity, increasing inventory space from 32 to 40 slots.
This change is quite useful for players who need to explore for extended periods. Whether carrying more tools, ammunition, food, or gathering crafting materials in the wild, the extra space reduces the frequency of returning to base to reorganize items.
Meanwhile, the update also optimizes the item sorting function, adding three new sorting methods:
- Weight: Sorts items by their total weight (stacked) from highest to lowest.
- Type: Groups items by category and sorts them alphabetically within each category.
- Latest: Prioritizes recently picked-up items for quick access to recently acquired resources.
These changes may seem like mere interface optimizations, but for players who frequently travel to dangerous areas, improved organization efficiency equates to actual gains. More backpack space also means players can carry more consumables before setting out and bring back more materials during an exploration.
In addition, a Completed Quests tab has been added to the quest log, providing brief summaries of completed tasks. Players can more easily review completed tasks without relying solely on memory to determine their progress.
Resource Gathering and Raid Adjustments

Scorned Wilderness raid has received several fixes. The developers have fixed several issues related to skipping levels using Windstep and resolved the anomaly of ore respawning immediately upon player teleportation. Furthermore, version 1.0.1 has adjusted several mechanisms that affect daily game efficiency.
For example, enemy aggro ranges have been reduced overall, and enemy respawn times after defeat have been extended. This means you are less likely to be spotted by distant enemies during exploration, and after clearing an area, you will have more safe windows to gather resources, restore status, or plan your next route.
Agriculture and Production System Expansion
Regarding the production system, this update adds Ultra Compost Bin and Large Compost Bucket. The former further expands composting facilities, while the latter provides greater capacity. For players who have already invested significant time in managing their base, these two additions will further refine their agricultural production processes. Meanwhile, the advanced spinning wheel can now use overdrive, giving a new purpose to a skill that previously only worked on other mechanical production facilities. Players can use this to re-plan processing sequences when scheduling production tasks, reducing waiting time.
The update also fixes a display issue with Skillcape perk at Fishing Cape; you now have a chance to instantly catch a fish. Several other interface, controller operation, task progress, and save issues have also been fixed, further improving the overall gaming experience.
Summary
Overall, RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0.1 is not just a simple numerical adjustment, but rather an optimization of multiple aspects including combat, equipment, resource gathering, and base production.
The newly added special attacks for ranged weapons provide more options for combat strategies, the adjustments to the inventory and equipment slots improve the convenience of daily exploration, and the fixes to enemy spawning and raid mechanics make resource planning and dungeon strategies more worthwhile to rethink.
For players, after the update, it’s worthwhile to re-examine your existing equipment combinations, ranged skill configurations, and resource collection routes, making full use of the changes brought about by the new mechanics to prepare for future exploration and challenges.
