Path of Exile 3.29.1 Patch Notes Already Arrived: Key Improvement Highlights of Allflame League, Mercenary, and Abyss Mechanics

Category: Path Of Exile Posted: Aug 01, 2026 Views: 22

One week after the launch of Curse of the Allflame, Path of Exile released its first major patch, 3.29.1, on July 31st. While primarily focused on bug fixes, the update addresses a wide range of mechanics and introduces several new buffs.

To help you quickly adapt to the changes this patch brings to Path of Exile 3.29 league, and to ensure you can continue farming resources effectively, we've outlined the key highlights below:

  • Curse of the Allflame mechanic
  • Mercenary gameplay
  • Abyss mechanic in the general improvements

Path of Exile 3.29.1 Patch Notes Already Arrived: Key Improvement Highlights of Allflame League, Mercenary, and Abyss Mechanics

3.29 League mechanic Improvements

PoE 3.29.1 centers on Curse of the Allflame mechanic, bringing key additions include a new chart variant known as Eldritch Depths and a new type of Ducat called Ukatoa's Ducat; the former appears to be the source where the latter drops.

During PoE 3.29 league, multiple charts can be combined to form a voyage, which offers various rewards upon completion. Different charts allow for different combinations, determining the loot and bonuses available in the corresponding areas during the voyage.

As for Ducats, they are a special currency designed for Allflame crafting system, with each type serving a unique purpose.

Specifically, Ukatoa's Ducat is used to replace the implicit modifier on a non-unique amulet with an Eldritch version, significantly boosting the item's power.

This item is particularly useful if you have a finished amulet with solid explicit modifiers but a poor implicit modifier.

However, the drop rate for this Ducat is currently low; if you want to acquire a larger quantity at once, trading on the market is the best option, and it typically needs around 30 PoE Chaos Orbs.

Allflame league also introduces two new types of loot chests for charts and voyages: Sunken Opulence and Sunken Gems. Their value is difficult to assess upfront, as it depends largely on the specific rewards found inside.

Additionally, Patch 3.29.1 allows you to use Offerings, obtained by sacrificing items at Deep Altars, to upgrade certain common currencies into rarer ones. Furthermore, the effects of these Offerings apply to all players within the current area during a voyage.

These changes not only offer the potential to boost your returns but also make party play in Abyss more viable, as Offerings obtained by teammates can stack. While some Offering effects are modest on their own, their combined impact is substantial.

Next up is a major QoL change: Dredge now applies to Strongboxes and Essences. Since these special items help you acquire various basic currencies, this expanded scope translates to increased rewards.

Mercenary improvements

Mercenary mechanic was introduced in Path of Exile 3.26 league; by challenging and defeating them, you can temporarily hire them to assist in combat or exploration. Additionally, if you play Luminary Ascendancy class, you can hire them permanently.

To address this, Path of Exile Patch 3.29.1 introduces a mechanic where permanent mercenaries incur a higher damage-taken penalty compared to temporary ones.

Specifically, if you are playing as a Luminary, your mercenary faces no penalty until you reach level 45; the penalty then scales up as you progress, reaching its maximum value at level 83.

This mechanic was implemented because permanent mercenaries can be equipped with gear at your discretion, eventually making them far more powerful than their temporary counterparts.

Furthermore, Path of Exile has adjusted the damage scaling curve for physical-attack mercenaries, giving them an advantage over spell-based mercenaries at lower levels. This change should allow them to reach their full combat potential earlier than before.

A quick additional note on Mercenary mechanic: if you attempt to craft builds centered around Enmity's Embrace or Flame Link, the results are usually lackluster unless your gear quality is exceptionally high.

If you are determined to pursue this playstyle, ensure you provide a link that transfers your critical strike chance to the mercenary, and use the unique Great Mallet, Trypanon.

While Trypanon is generally poor outside of its synergy with Destructive Link, the combination guarantees that your mercenary lands a critical hit on every attack. If you also equip Marilyn's Fallacy, your mercenary can consistently deal critical hits.

Next, PoE Patch 3.29.1 now allows resurrected permanent mercenaries to re-enter areas they previously retreated from, provided your character also re-enters the area, which means consuming a portal.

Mercenaries with Infamous prefix now appear more frequently; while they are more dangerous, defeating them yields greater rewards. Additionally, the support effects applied to skills used by all mercenaries have been generally buffed.

Patch 3.29.1 introduces a new Atlas tree notable called Contract Killers, which increases the damage your allied mercenaries deal to enemy mercenaries and Rogue Exiles by 100%.

While you would likely only allocate this notable when playing Luminary, it offers a valuable alternative, especially if you possess a solid level 75 permanent mercenary but wish to avoid the damage penalties associated with leveling them up further.

Last but not least is a change affecting both mercenaries and PoE Allflame league mechanic: permanent mercenaries brought along on voyages are now influenced by Golden Lanterns you have collected, granting you various bonuses.

Core content of the general improvements

Changes in this section primarily address various bugs that emerged in Path of Exile 3.29 over the past week; the only area requiring special attention is Abyss mechanic.

For instance, a new Abyssal Bloodline class has been added, which can be unlocked by defeating specific bosses. Additionally, a new Atlas Anomaly called Gambling District has been introduced.

Furthermore, completing Abyssal Depths Lich boss fight no longer involves the phase where you must enter a side room to destroy one of three devices to disable the boss's invulnerability.

Instead, the enemy's health has been increased by 25%, and crystal spires now appear in the arena, periodically firing beams that damage both enemies and players.

In short, Abyss gameplay has become more dangerous while also receiving quality-of-life improvements. However, if your PoE 3.29 character is still underpowered, these changes will certainly make the combat more challenging.

However, following the release of Patch 3.29.1, completing an Abyssal boss encounter now grants you three chests containing valuable rewards.

Other standard Abyss chests now offer more consistent drop rates and increased value, particularly those containing currency and Scarabs.

That covers the key changes introduced in Path of Exile Patch 3.29.1. Any details not mentioned here consist of routine bug fixes; these are best discovered through actual gameplay. Best of luck with your mapping and voyages!
