Mana Problems in Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.5? Infernalist Pyromantic Pact Solves Everything with One Node

Players, while Infernalist has never been the most popular or prominent Ascendancy in Path of Exile 2, it actually possesses a versatility that often goes overlooked. From Patch 0.1 through the current 0.5.5, it has maintained a low but stable presence.

With a usage rate of just 3% in Forbidden Rites league and around 5% in Runes of Aldur league, its statistics are unremarkable - yet these figures mask its immense potential for build flexibility.

If one were to commit to a single Ascendancy for the long haul in PoE 2, Infernalist would be a highly competitive choice.

While the currently popular Gemling Legionnaire often relies on specific skills and late-game setups involving items like Split Personality, Infernalist adapts easily to a wide range of playstyles - whether focusing on defense, Spirit, Mana, or Energy Shield - offering exceptional versatility.

Demon Form Damage

Demon Form skill was incredibly powerful in PoE 2 Patch 0.1; although it has since been nerfed, it remains a viable combat form.

It delivers solid damage even on a low budget, but its most underrated feature is the mobility provided by the dodge roll.

For players comfortable with frequent rolling for repositioning, this movement style allows for great speed; some speed runners have even achieved excellent results using Demon Form, demonstrating its practical advantages in actual gameplay.

Defensive Systems

Altered Flesh is one of Infernalist's premier defensive nodes, effectively mitigating massive incoming damage.

In the early days, Loyal Hellhound could absorb a portion of damage for the player; combined with Altered Flesh, this made Infernalist nearly unkillable.

Although Loyal Hellhound was later nerfed, causing many players to overlook the Ascendancy's defensive capabilities, Altered Flesh itself remains highly reliable.

Additionally, Infernalist can pursue a low-life build. By utilizing specific nodes such as Beidat's Hand, Beidat's Will, and Beidat's Gaze, the character can easily enter a low-life state.

When combined with mechanics like Energy Shield and life regeneration, this creates a potent synergy between survivability and damage output.

As more players become familiar with these mechanics, low-life builds may become increasingly common in Path of Exile 2.

Stacking Spirit, Mana, and Energy Shield

Infernalist is actually one of the best Ascendancy classes for stacking Spirit; with the help of Beidat's Will, it can achieve massive Spirit values and enable some truly wild playstyles.

While Abyssal Lich is also frequently used for Spirit stacking, Infernalist possesses immense potential in this area as well.

Regarding Mana stacking, Beidat's Gaze positions Infernalist as a top-tier choice, and the class also benefits significantly from Energy Shield stacking.

In terms of build flexibility, Infernalist can satisfy almost any playstyle a player might imagine.

Powerful Nodes

Bringer of Flame

Bringer of Flame is arguably one of Infernalist's most distinctive nodes; it allows all damage dealt by the character and their allies to contribute to Flammability and Ignite Magnitudes.

Although Ignite builds aren't typically considered top-tier in PoE 2, they often perform exceptionally well in the hands of an Infernalist.

It enables a pseudo-Ignite build: you primarily stack Physical or Cold damage and use Bringer of Flame to convert it into massive Ignite damage.

This mirrors the strategy where a Blood Mage uses Snipe combined with elemental damage to amplify Bleed effects - except Infernalist applies this same logic to Ignite.

This playstyle may become even stronger once PoE 2 Patch 1.0 reworks Ignite and damage-over-time mechanics.

Pyromantic Pact

If you are struggling with Mana costs, Pyromantic Pact - a node often severely underestimated by players - offers an excellent solution.

Its core mechanic converts a skill's Mana cost into accumulated Infernal Flame; once the gauge is full, the character takes a hit of self-damage, and their Mana is instantly restored to full.

For builds that are prone to Mana shortages (such as Shield Wall), this node eliminates a great deal of hassle.

It removes the need to force a switch to alternatives like Blood Magic or spend valuable PoE 2 currency adjusting gear to manage Mana costs.

Grinning Immolation

When discussing powerful nodes, Grinning Immolation is another one we simply cannot overlook.

Although this node causes you to become Ignited whenever you land a critical hit - forcing you to deal with self-inflicted damage - the solution is straightforward.

You can mitigate this through methods like stacking Fire Resistance, utilizing Recoup, or relying on regeneration; the self-damage is a manageable trade-off given the benefits it offers.

It provides a 50% more multiplier to critical strike damage, and since critical strikes integrate seamlessly into many playstyles, Grinning Immolation allows the Infernalist to truly stand out within crit-focused builds.

When paired with the previously mentioned Bringer of Flame, leveraging a single massive hit to trigger a huge Ignite, the impact becomes even more pronounced.

As you can see, Infernalist's greatest strength in Path of Exile 2 isn't tied to one specific build, but rather its versatility across a wide range of build concepts.

To fully unlock its potential, the key lies in understanding your damage sources and striking the right balance between managing self-inflicted damage, handling mana costs, and maintaining defenses.

If you enjoy theory crafting and experimenting with different setups, Infernalist is likely one of the most creatively rewarding Ascendancies in Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.5.
