Path of Exile 2 0.5.5 Infernal Cry Gemling: A Smooth Mapping Experience Powered by Infernal Cry and Paquate's Pact

In Path of Exile patch 0.5.5, Infernal Cry Gemling build has once again become a popular choice for players focused on mapping. Centered on Mercenary's Gemling Legionnaire ascendancy class, this build combines Infernal Cry skill with the Paquate's Pact support gem to deliver a highly efficient, one-button screen-clearing experience.

Core Damage Mechanism: The Synergy Between Infernal Cry and Paquate's Pact

Path of Exile 2 0.5.5 Infernal Cry Gemling: A Smooth Mapping Experience Powered by Infernal Cry and Paquate's Pact

The key to understanding this build lies in grasping the synergy between Infernal Cry and Paquate's Pact.

Infernal Cry is a Warcry skill that fundamentally destabilizes nearby enemies, causing them to combust upon death. However, this build moves beyond those basic effects, transforming Infernal Cry into a damage-dealing engine via Paquate's Pact.

Paquate's Pact no longer causes the supported skill to directly inflict Corrupted Blood; instead, it triggers a separate skill to apply the effect, with damage scaling based on the level of the socketed skill gem. This means that for every level gained on the Infernal Cry gem, the damage of Corrupted Blood applied by Paquate's Pact increases accordingly.

Specifically, each cast of Infernal Cry applies 5 stacks of Corrupted Blood to enemies, with each stack dealing physical DoT. With Echoing Cry support gem, Warcry skill echoes twice. Combined with the initial cast, this results in three activations total, allowing a single Infernal Cry to apply up to 15 stacks of Corrupted Blood via Paquate's Pact.

Detailed Gear Configuration

This setup boosts item rarity to approximately 257%, balancing high rarity stacking with sufficient survivability. It is ideally suited for standard mapping, Breach encounters, and other scenarios with high monster density in Path of Exile 2, allowing you to maximize returns from every map while maintaining a smooth, comfortable playstyle.

Weapon: Saitha's Spear

POE 2 Saitha's Spear

The primary requirement is to obtain +1 to Level of all Fire Skill Gems modifier via a Vaal Cultivation Orb to boost the level of Infernal Cry. Socketing Jiquani's Soul Core of Rallying into the weapon provides +1 to Level of all Warcry Skill Gems, further empowering our core skill.

Body Armour: Greed's Embrace

This piece serves primarily to stack Item Rarity; the base item inherently provides a 50% increase. Socketing a Rabbit Idol adds another 12 points of Item Rarity - meaning this single piece of gear contributes approximately 62% Item Rarity.

Amulet: Fireflower

Used mainly to boost damage, it provides levels to Fire skills and a certain amount of Item Rarity. By imbuing the amulet with Agonizing Calamity passive, you gain 40% increased Physical Damage while under the effect of Herald of Blood, thereby further increasing the damage of Corrupted Blood.

Belt: Headhunter

Primarily used to enhance the mapping experience; it allows you to steal modifiers from slain Rare monsters, boosting both map-clearing efficiency and loot yield. However, this slot is not mandatory; depending on your PoE2 currency budget and specific needs, it can be replaced with Mageblood or another high-quality belt.

Aside from the items mentioned above, the helmet, gloves, boots, and rings are rare items with no fixed requirements, serving mainly to provide Life, Elemental Resistances, Armour, and similar stats.

Ascendancy Passive and Mote Mechanics

Gemling Legionnaire plays an irreplaceable role in this build. Its Ascendancy passive, Gem Studded, grants powerful bonuses based on the color of Support Gems socketed in your gear. By maintaining a perfect balance in the number of Support Gems of each color, you can trigger the bonuses for all colors simultaneously.

The three bonuses are: enemies deal no extra critical strike damage when hitting you; skill costs are reduced by 30%; and the movement speed penalty incurred when using movement skills is reduced by 40%. This means that while mapping in Path of Exile 2, you are completely immune to critical strike damage while enjoying higher movement speed and lower skill costs, resulting in a smooth, fluid clearing experience.

Another core mechanic comes from Virtuous Barrier. This skill accumulates three types of Motes - Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence - over time; the maximum capacity for each Mote type is determined by the number of equipped skills that require the corresponding attribute.

Strength Motes increase maximum life, Dexterity Motes boost armor, evasion, and energy shield, while Intelligence Motes enhance life and mana regeneration. Consequently, when setting up your gear, you should slot in skills you won't actually use - such as Shockwave Totem, Stasis Mine, and Ancestral Warcry - solely to leverage their attribute requirements to raise your Mote caps and gain additional defensive benefits.

Getting Started and Mapping Strategy

This build begins to take shape around level 65. Prioritize acquiring the core skill gems - Paquate's Pact and Infernal Cry - and focus your resources on leveling up Infernal Cry. While damage may be limited early on, the damage from Corrupted Blood effect triggered by Paquate's Pact scales with the skill level, steadily improving your overall map-clearing capability.

Regarding gear, the level of Infernal Cry skill is the most critical factor for damage output, so prioritize items that grant levels to Fire skills. Weapons, amulets, and shields are the primary sources of skill levels; if you are on a budget, focus on upgrading these slots first.

POE 2 Breach

In terms of mapping, this build excels in high-density content like Breaches and Expeditions. Infernal Cry has a large area of effect, and when combined with Echoing Cry, it allows for consecutive Warcry activations. This eliminates the need to stop frequently for aiming or complex inputs; simply casting Warcries while moving allows you to cover a wide area and clear maps effortlessly.

Overall, Infernal Cry Gemling build stands out as a highly competitive mapping strategy in PoE 2 version 0.5.5, thanks to its simple mechanics, excellent area-clearing potential, and low barrier to entry. For players who enjoy a relaxed playstyle and efficient monster clearing, this build is well worth trying as a farming strategy.
