Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.5 Gas Grenade Pathfinder Build All-New Version Crafting | How to Return to the Top?

In earlier versions of Path of Exile 2, Gas Grenade Pathfinder Build held a solid position among Dexterity-based Chaos builds thanks to its exceptional map-clearing efficiency and unique mechanics.

However, as the game progressed to version 0.4.0, and especially following the introduction of Druid and associated new spells, the build faced significant bottlenecks.

Issues such as relying on totems to apply debuffs and depending solely on evasion mechanics led to a decline in both its usage rate and overall effectiveness.

Fortunately, following the release of Patch 0.5.0 and the new gameplay options introduced in 0.5.5, the build appears to have regained its viability in PoE 2. Here, we will outline how to craft and optimize this build in the current meta.

Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.5 Gas Grenade Pathfinder Build All-New Version Crafting | How to Return to the Top?

Revamping defensive mechanics

Ghost Dance is a core skill for Gas Grenade Pathfinder. In Patch 0.3.0, its original mechanics offered incredibly high instant recovery efficiency and rapid accumulation of Ghost Shroud stacks, allowing players to instantly replenish large amounts of Energy Shield upon taking a hit.

However, subsequent nerfs to the rate of Ghost Shroud accumulation meant that high-evasion builds, including this one, often saw their Energy Shield drop to critical levels or deplete entirely when facing frequent hits or sustained damage.

Furthermore, since this build cannot effectively utilize leech mechanics, maintaining a steady Energy Shield regeneration became a major challenge.

In Patch 0.5.5, this issue can be resolved by creating synergy between specific Ascendancy passives and a unique belt.

First, regarding Ascendancy passives: we forgo Running Assault, which has been nerfed. The core playstyle of Gas Grenade build involves using a roll to cancel the animation recovery immediately after throwing; Running Assault offers negligible benefits to the grenade's damage output.

While skipping this passive means losing immunity to severe stuns while dashing, this drawback can be compensated for by using items such as Stone Charm.

For the belt slot, opting for Shavronne's Satchel Fine Belt instead of rarer choices like Headhunter or Mageblood grants continuous dual-recovery capabilities, significantly improving the build's survivability against high-tier content in Path of Exile 2 0.5.5.

How to maximize damage output?

In earlier iterations of Gas Grenade Pathfinder Build, single-target boss encounters relied primarily on Dark Effigy totem skill to automatically attack targets and apply Critical Weakness debuff. This debuff stacks up to 20 times, with each stack increasing the base critical strike chance by 10%.

However, the introduction of the new Entangle spell offers a superior alternative; it outperforms the previous setup in both debuff application and burst damage potential.

Consequently, you should switch to Entangle and pair it with a corrupted version of The Wicked Quill Withered Wand in your off-hand. An optimal corrupted version of this item can grant a 30% chance to apply Withered for 4 seconds.

In actual combat, opening with Entangle allows you to rapidly stack Withered on enemies within the first few seconds, thanks to its high attack frequency, thereby minimizing the build's ramp-up time.

If the fight drags on, maintain -8 stacks of Withered via Withering Presence, then switch to Cursecarver Acrid Wand (or another high-tier wand that boosts Chaos skill levels) to capitalize on the resistance reduction provided by the despair curse.

Gear options for other slots

Beyond the crucial off-hand weapon choice, we recommend equipping a bow or crossbow as your main weapon; the key requirements are a high base critical strike chance and the ability to trigger grenade detonations twice.

When rerolling modifiers, prioritize increasing projectile skill levels on the prefix. If resources are limited, you can use an Essence of Battle to roll for increased attack skill levels instead.

For gloves, ensure you socket Saqawal's Rune of the Sky; pairing this with Idol of Thruldana allows you to increase your poison stack count.

Alternatively, if you choose Plaguefinger Gauze Wraps gloves, you can corrupt them to add an extra socket and insert Soul Core of Tacati to help shore up your Chaos Resistance.

For the chest piece, Rambler Jacket, which comes with innate Chaos Resistance, is the top choice; it is crucial for boosting your Chaos and Elemental resistances while reducing the duration of Bleed effects.

As for the helmet, prioritize high Energy Shield and resistances. For boots, opt for high Evasion or a hybrid Evasion/ES base, ensuring you get Movement Speed and Evasion Rating while filling in any remaining resistance gaps.

Regarding the amulet, in addition to increasing the level of all projectile skills, use Essence modifiers to boost Evasion and defenses, while also balancing Item Rarity, resistances, and Mana Regeneration.

For rings, the first slot should focus on high Dexterity, flat Fire/Lightning damage, Item Rarity bonuses, and Chaos Resistance. The second slot should provide Intelligence, flat elemental damage, evasion, and any missing resistances.

Passive skill tree allocation

For the updated PoE 2 Gas Grenade Pathfinder Build, early-game passive allocation should prioritize extending downwards from the starting point. Max out all nodes related to poison and chaos damage to boost clear speed during the early and mid-game stages.

By the mid-game, expand into the grenade node clusters to gain cooldown recovery speed and extra projectiles, while also enhancing the duration and potency of status ailments.

In the late game, invest in weapon swap to slightly boost curse effectiveness and make it easier to apply citical weakness.

At the same time, incorporate various critical strike bonuses. As you level up, you can decide whether to fill out the surrounding nodes to gain extra Critical Strike Multiplier and further boost your Energy Shield and Evasion Rating.

That covers the key details of this revamped Gas Grenade Pathfinder Build for Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.5. If you previously abandoned this build, now is the perfect time to bring it back into the fray!
