Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.5 Abyss Farming Guide | How to Choose the Best Lord for Your Build?

In Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.5, Abyss is a simple and effective farming strategy that can yield large amounts of currency and valuable Omens.

In this League, Abyss can be somewhat challenging, but the rewards are highly worthwhile, and many of the items it produces can be worth several or even dozens of Divine Orbs. However, Abyss mechanics can be fairly demanding, so here are the things you should keep in mind when farming Abyss.

Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.5 Abyss Farming Guide | How to Choose the Best Lord for Your Build?

Abyss Basics

The core of Abyss is very simple: kill the monsters around the green holes. More monsters will spawn from the green holes in the ground, and you continue killing them until everything that moves and everything that does not is dead. Eventually, a pile of currency and valuable Omens will drop.

Abyss Lords

Path of Exile 2 Abyss Lords

There are three main Abyss Lords: Kurgal, Amanamu, and Ulaman. You can use Balance of Power on the passive tree to control which faction appears.

Kurgal

Kurgal's monsters are easy to kill. They revive a few seconds after dying and then deal Chaos damage. If your Chaos Resistance is high enough, they are not particularly dangerous. Without enough Chaos Resistance, however, these monsters can become somewhat threatening.

In terms of rewards alone, Kurgal is the weakest of the three Lords. It has no Currency Chest and lacks the special mechanic found with Amanamu. However, farming Kurgal has one major advantage: you can convert Vile Treasures from Omens into Abyssal Eyes.

This is because Kurgal's Gaze only drops in Abyssal Depths. It is a jewel that can be socketed into gloves to improve the effectiveness of Arcane Surge, and it is worth around 40 Divine Orbs.

Amanamu

If your DPS is relatively low, Amanamu can be a good choice. You only need to avoid the monsters' extremely delayed heavy attacks, while their other attacks pose little threat.

Amanamu's monsters have a special modifier called Amanamu's Void. They create black vortex clouds on the ground. Simply lure them outside the clouds before killing them, and they have a very high chance of dropping Omen of Light and Omen of Abyssal Echo.

Omen of Light is highly valuable because it is one of the main reliable ways to remove Desecrated Mods, and it is worth around 3 Divine Orbs. Omen of Abyssal Echo is also worth around 1 Divine Orb.

If you kill them inside the clouds, they will instead drop Omens with very low value, generally far below 1 Chaos Orb.

Ulaman

Ulaman also spawns far more Rare Monsters than the other two factions. More Rare Monsters means more drops, making Ulaman particularly suitable for builds with very high DPS that can tear through monsters without slowing down.

Ulaman drops Currency Chests, resulting in very solid overall rewards. Although it does not drop as many Abyss Omens as Amanamu's Void monsters, the advantage is that you do not need to stop attacking and lure the monsters away.

Abyss Passive Tree

Among Abyss-related passives, you should also take Lord of the Pit (Proliferation). It spreads Abyss throughout the entire area.

You should also take the passives that increase Omen drops because they are clearly very valuable, unless you are specifically farming for Kurgal's Gaze.

Rogue Exiles and Azmeri Spirits have excellent synergy with Abyss. Any monster that you infuse with an Azmeri Spirit before killing it will return through the green portal carrying that spirit.

Rogue Exiles can also drop Heart of the Well, an extremely valuable jewel that is essentially a super-Desecrated jewel with four Desecrated Mods that can be revealed. You can sell it unidentified or take a chance on crafting it yourself.

You should also take as much Effectiveness as possible from the passive tree. Grasslands, Forests, and Swamps are all excellent areas. Any passives that increase Rare Monsters or Effectiveness are great choices.

Tablets and Modifiers

Abyss Tablets are the most important part of this strategy. You need them to greatly increase the output of each map and make the encounters much more rewarding.

For normal Tablets, Monster Effectiveness is the best modifier and is essentially equivalent to having more monsters. Rare Monsters and Monster Rarity are also very good.

Item Rarity and Pack Size are also useful, but their bonuses are generally not very high, while most of the remaining modifiers are considerably weaker.

Unforeseen Consequences is a valuable Abyss Tablet modifier. It causes the map to become flooded with Abyss, greatly increasing the amount of Abyss within the area. You can trigger it by running maps with Abyss and have a decent chance of spreading it.

Your main goal is to have the same Tablet contain multiple strong prefixes and suffixes at the same time. Abyss Tablets are currently not very valuable, so you can buy PoE 2 currency and stockpile many Tablets for hours farming. You can also farm Tablets yourself, although doing so may slightly reduce your overall efficiency.

Maps

Path of Exile 2 Abyss Maps

The best locations for farming Abyss are cities. Another excellent option is aquatic nodes, such as the areas between Grand Expeditions.

For easier travel nodes in aquatic areas, you can choose Doryani's perks. These areas contain fewer Tablets, while Doryani can provide substantial bonuses to Effectiveness, Rarity, and Rare Monster modifiers.

The Improved Calibration perk can improve the effectiveness of prefixes or suffixes. If you are running maps with 6 modifiers, gaining one additional modifier is usually very valuable. Stitch the Flesh node can also provide an additional revival opportunity. Abyss is not easy, so having this perk provides extra security.

Abyss in PoE 2 Patch 0.5.5 is excellent because it is simple, rewarding, and suitable for a wide range of builds and farming methods. If you start to find it repetitive, you can adjust your farming objectives and pace based on your DPS and specific build.
