Which GTA 6 Actions Could Get You Into Trouble?

While GTA 6 is set in Vice City, that doesn't mean you can get away with just any malicious behavior. Some consequences you might expect, while others could be far more severe.
If you've played GTA 5, you might be accustomed to acting recklessly, a habit fostered by the game's somewhat loose NPC reaction systems. However, that approach won't fly in the fully overhauled world of GTA 6.
In this guide, we'll highlight several actions that were once permissible in previous entries but could now lead to serious repercussions in GTA 6. If you want to avoid unpleasant, and potentially dire, consequences, it's best to steer clear of these behaviors!
Harassing pedestrians
In Los Santos of the previous game, if you harassed pedestrians for a bit of fun, they would simply scream and run away, returning to their normal routines almost as if you'd never existed.
In GTA 6, however, NPCs feature much smarter, more nuanced reaction systems, it's as if each one possesses a distinct personality. They may even remember past encounters, including how you treated them previously.
Consequently, if you decide to throw a punch or hit someone with your vehicle, you might face a much more intense retaliation, or even find yourself being sued for damages.
Don't think we're exaggerating. In an unscripted gameplay demonstration of GTA 6, the protagonist, Jason, lingered a bit too long while walking past a pedestrian with a dog. The NPC not only confronted Jason but also unclipped the dog's leash, setting it on him.
Beyond individual personalities, an NPC's reaction also depends on where you encounter them on the map. Much like in the real world, residents in less-than-savory neighborhoods may be more prone to aggressive or hostile behavior.
Stealing vehicles
In GTA 5, stealing a car was a breeze: if you saw one you liked, a single button press allowed you to yank the driver out and drive off.
In GTA 6, beyond tasks like hot-wiring a vehicle, you must also be prepared for a variety of reactions from drivers: some may panic and speed away, while others might be armed and ready to fight back.
Moreover, stealing a vehicle is only the beginning. In most cases, the owner will alert the police, meaning that while you are still behind the wheel, law enforcement is already actively searching for the car.
If you steal a high-end vehicle for illicit trade, the situation becomes even more complicated; such premium cars are often equipped with trackers that continuously broadcast your location.
If you want to keep the vehicle, and avoid being caught, you must reach the drop-off point as quickly as possible to utilize the signal-jamming equipment located there, which will effectively sever the tracking signal.
To make matters more challenging, GTA 6 moves away from the overly wide roads seen in previous entries, opting for more realistic, narrower dimensions, a change that significantly ramps up the difficulty of your getaways.
Beyond the risks inherent in the theft and the subsequent escape, keep in mind that if your goal is to sell the stolen vehicle, any damage sustained during the process will reduce your final payout.
Consequently, unless you possess exceptional driving skills, if you want to earn more cash and progress through the game more efficiently, it might be better to buy cheap GTA 6 money in advance.
Pacing as a "penalty"
If you are accustomed to the time scale and pacing of GTA 5, GTA 6 will feel notably faster. To counter this, the developers have extended the day-night cycle and incorporated a wealth of additional detail, effectively slowing down the game's overall pace.
For instance, there are now more frequent and granular demands on your in-game funds, such as paying for a gym membership or shopping to keep your character well-fed and maintain their stamina.
In essence, this isn't strictly a penalty system (hence the quotation marks). However, if you fail to adapt to this shift and continue to rush through the game, you will inevitably miss out on a great deal of content.
The development team has made it clear that the main storyline will not lead you to every corner of the map; if you focus solely on rushing through the plot, you will miss out on a wealth of environmental details and Easter eggs. Of course, if that doesn't bother you, then it's perfectly fine.
Going it alone
Given the new chase mechanics, the wanted system, and the underlying AI logic, attempting to play GTA 6 entirely solo may not result in the best experience.
While you are certainly free to explore the world on your own, having a partner provides a significant advantage, you'll always have someone else to take the wheel during a getaway.
Working together is far more effective provided that neither of you has drawn the full heat of the police.
Neglecting interpersonal dynamics
Interestingly, GTA 6 does not define the relationship between the two protagonists, Jason and Lucia, as a romance from the outset; the direction their relationship takes depends entirely on the choices you make.
If you want them to end up as a romantic couple, you must be careful. You cannot afford to be dismissive or indifferent toward one another, whether in day-to-day interactions or through digital communication, as you might have been with other characters in previous entries.
The game tracks a relationship score between Jason and Lucia. Positive actions boost this score, while neglect or perfunctory behavior will cause it to drop, potentially leading to a complete breakdown of their partnership.
Even if you have no interest in a romantic arc, it is still in your best interest to maintain a strong professional rapport. After all, you wouldn't want to be stuck in the middle of a high-stakes getaway with someone you're on bad terms with.
Extreme criminal behavior
While you cannot opt out of being a criminal in GTA 6, you can shape the kind of criminal you become. The game features a criminal profile system that evaluates you based on your actions throughout the game.
This final assessment not only defines your character's public persona but can even influence the trajectory of the story.
Naturally, not every conflict will negatively impact your profile. Actions taken to complete a mission, or retaliating against someone who provokes you, generally fall within an acceptable range.
Conclusion
It is worth noting that the behaviors mentioned above are not strictly forbidden in GTA 6. Rather, you must carefully weigh the consequences, and consider whether you are truly prepared to face the penalties that may follow.
However, the more nuanced penalty system, compared to that of its predecessor, is a clear indicator that GTA 6 will offer a high level of playability and depth. Let's look forward to November 19th!
