GTA 6 is only a few weeks away from running on your console, and some players still probably can't believe it's actually happening. But it is real! And several media outlets have already had the chance to get hands-on with the game.
Meanwhile, some unexpected "leaks" have also surfaced. In Episode 4, "Guinea Pig on a Stick," of South Park Season 29, which aired on October 28, the main characters are shown watching previously unreleased, authentic GTA 6 gameplay footage. Let's take this opportunity to look at GTA 6's marketing strategy.
South Park
In a recent South Park scene, Jason and Lucia are walking along the beach when Jason throws his leftover snacks at a passerby, naturally provoking an angry reaction.
NPCs can also clean up after pets, while players can pick up pet poop and use it as a weapon against other people. This isn't AI-generated footage, nor is it leaked content. It is actual gameplay footage provided by the official team.
However, considering how many times GTA 6 has been leaked, we could also interpret this as a bit of self-deprecating humor. With the release date approaching, the official team may use similar approaches to showcase even more small details from the game.
Miami Marketing
Some players feel that GTA 6's marketing campaign has been underwhelming, but marketing involves much more than simply running trailers across various video platforms.
If you're in Miami, the real-world inspiration for Vice City, you'll get a much better sense of just how extensive the official marketing campaign has become.
City Advertising
As early as October 12, Goodyear blimp Wingfoot Three took off from a hangar in Ohio, USA, and was spotted for the first time sporting GTA 6's "Vice City" livery.
The blimp is still flying over Florida, and it may continue doing so until the game's release.
Meanwhile, a massive illuminated "Welcome to Vice City" sign has been installed above Kaseya Center, home of Miami Heat.
Giant murals have also appeared along Hollywood Boulevard and in places like Brooklyn, New York. Miami's famous Wynwood Walls street art museum is displaying 10 murals identical to those featured in the game, and local residents can visit the exhibition for free until 2028.
Miami's streets, taxis, and digital billboards are now filled with advertisements for fictional in-game brands that look surprisingly authentic, including Weazel News, Burger Shot, Cluckin' Bell, eCola, and Pißwasser. These advertisements don't feature any obvious GTA logos, but scanning their QR codes will take you directly to the game's official website.
Real-World Transformations
Even more impressive is The Clevelander, a hotel in South Beach that has now been transformed into a hotel straight out of GTA 6's Vice City.
Its lighting resembles scenes from the trailers, while the outdoor swimming pool recreates the setting in which people can be seen dancing beside a pool as a car drives past.
The hotel also features Vice City Manatees logo, representing the fictional football team in the game, along with Juice Loose elements associated with O.J. Simpson.
Inside, the reception desk has also been redesigned with a "Welcome to Vice City" theme. It's still unclear whether the hotel will officially offer GTA 6 merchandise, but from the exterior to the interior, the entire property has essentially become a real-life version of an in-game location.
Meanwhile, actual filming has also been taking place on Miami's streets, featuring Vice City police cars, various customized hot rods, and large crowds of spectators.
A bakery called Zack the Baker has also jumped on GTA 6 hype to promote its own business. This may not have been directly organized by the official team. Instead, the owner likely noticed the excitement surrounding GTA 6 in Miami and decided to connect the business with the game's marketing buzz.
Similarly, Lamborghini's Instagram account has posted images that look remarkably like GTA 6 promotional materials, although they are actually just showcasing the brand's own vehicles. In other words, it's not just the official marketing campaign driving the excitement. Real-world brands and local businesses are also actively joining the hype.
TV Advertising
GTA 6 advertisements have also started appearing on television. During a basketball game broadcast on NBC, viewers were shown a GTA 6 trailer.
This version was almost identical to the full trailer, except that the kissing and sexual content had been removed. Most of the remaining footage was left intact. This shows that as the release date draws closer, the official team is making every effort to ensure the marketing campaign reaches as many people as possible.
Global Marketing
GTA 6's marketing campaign has now expanded beyond the USA, with promotional materials appearing in several other countries. In Melbourne, Australia, murals and digital billboards have appeared across the city. In Argentina, a new version of GTA 6 trailer was broadcast during an ESPN football match.
More advertisements have also appeared in Brazil and South Korea, while Tokyo has displayed an extended version of the game's artwork. It features Jason and Lucia leaning against the rear of a car, with additional details of the surrounding streets visible in the background.
As for Walmart, reports suggest that customers who preorder GTA 6 may receive a surprise and delight bag, which some have also referred to as a sample bag.
The promotion is reportedly scheduled to begin on November 12, when customers can start picking up their physical preorders, and will continue while supplies last. The physical edition's product listing indicates that the box contains a redemption code, with pickup available on November 12 and gameplay access beginning on November 19.
Nobody knows exactly what's inside the bag yet. It could contain snacks and drinks, or perhaps collectibles and stickers. Since the physical edition doesn't include a disc, the bag itself might end up being the most collectible item included with the package.
GTA 6 review embargoes are scheduled to lift on November 18. When the game launches, a GTA 6 soundtrack featuring 34 original tracks and Goodtime State Collector's Box will also be released. You may already be eager to jump into the game, but for now, all that's left is to be patient.
Vice City in GTA 6 offers even more excitement than Miami. Just like in GTA 5, you can rob banks or buy cheap GTA 6 cash to invest in businesses and establish a steady source of income.
However, no banks in Miami have joined GTA 6 marketing campaign so far, which is understandable. After all, a bank partnering with GTA 6 might seem a little absurd, not to mention somewhat risky.
