Diablo 4 Season 12 Simple Trick to Downgrade Bloodsoaked Compasses | No more impossible Butcher Runs!

In Diablo 4 Season 12, after you successfully clear The Pit Tier 100, you may notice that every Infernal Hordes Compass you obtain has become a daunting Bloodsoaked Infernal Compass.
Many players find this frustrating, but you can actually convert them back into Bloodstained Infernal Compasses, allowing you to continue farming experience efficiently and quickly progress toward Paragon Level 300.

Why Convert the Compass?
Infernal Hordes opened by Bloodsoaked Infernal Compass in Diablo 4 Season 12 are exceptionally challenging, featuring the formidable Butcher as a boss. Even Paladin, which received buffs this season, isn't always able to handle these encounters with ease. However, behind these heightened challenges lie immense experience rewards.
In Season 12, if your goal is to reach Paragon Level 300, the most effective method is to defeat four Butchers per Infernal Hordes run. Each Butcher grants a massive amount of experience.
Once you clear The Pit Tier 100, the game recognizes your character as sufficiently powerful and begins rewarding you with higher-difficulty content - namely, Bloodsoaked Infernal Compass. This is a deliberate design choice intended to offer greater rewards for stronger characters, not a bug.
However, not every build that can clear Tier 100 can easily handle "Bloodsoaked" difficulty Infernal Hordes. For many players, this becomes nearly impossible. If you use a Bloodsoaked Infernal Compass on Torment 4 difficulty, you will face waves of monsters scaled to roughly Torment 6.5 difficulty.
Therefore, the strategy you need is to convert your Bloodsoaked Infernal Compasses back into the earlier Bloodstained Infernal Compass, enabling you to clear content more reliably while still maintaining high experience gains.
Avoiding Acquisition
If you wish to completely avoid obtaining Bloodsoaked Infernal Compasses, the simplest method is to never pick them up.
Ensure you always keep at least one Bloodstained Compass in your character's inventory. After doing so, every Infernal Hordes Compass you pick up will automatically stack with Bloodstained Compass in your inventory, rather than becoming Bloodsoaked version.
If you have already cleared The Pit Tier 100 and remove the last Bloodstained Infernal Compass from your inventory, all subsequent keys you pick up will become Bloodsoaked Infernal Compasses.
Note that this method only works for Infernal Hordes Compasses and does not apply to boss summoning keys.
Compass Conversion
What if you already have Bloodsoaked Infernal Compasses - can they be converted back? The answer is yes.
If you already possess some Bloodsoaked Infernal Compasses, you can convert them using a stacking and splitting method. This can be done on both PC and console.
The mechanism relies on the same stacking principle. Simply combine a Bloodsoaked Infernal Compass with a Bloodstained Infernal Compass into the same stack, and the entire stack will become Bloodstained.
For PC Players
Open your stash and have at least one Bloodsoaked Infernal Compass and one Bloodstained Infernal Compass ready. Use your mouse to drag Bloodsoaked Infernal Compass over Bloodstained Infernal Compass and drop it; they will merge, and the entire stack will convert to Bloodstained Infernal Compasses.
For Console Players
On console, cursor control is less precise than with a keyboard and mouse, making the process slightly more involved. You will need to set aside an empty stash tab and place one Bloodstained Infernal Compass in it. Deposit Bloodsoaked Infernal Compasses you want to convert into that stash tab. The game will automatically stack them, completing the conversion.
If you need to split them, select the stack of compasses and press Split button (usually the Y button). Be careful during this process, as it's easy to make mistakes when splitting or merging.
Choosing the Right Compass Difficulty
Not every player needs to play on the highest difficulty, Torment 4. Depending on your character's strength, selecting the appropriate Torment level is crucial.
Since the experience provided by Butcher is exceptionally high - making it the most efficient source in Season 12 - ensuring the number of Butchers you defeat is more important than simply chasing higher difficulty. If you run Infernal Hordes on Torment 3 and consistently defeat four Butchers, the total experience you earn will far exceed what you would get on Torment 4 if you can only defeat one or two Butchers.
Bloodied Cache
While Infernal Compasses can be converted using the methods above, Lair Boss Keys cannot be stacked and thus cannot be converted. Additionally, after you reach The Pit Tier 100, Infernal Compasses contained in Bloodied Caches will also become Bloodsoaked versions. However, there's no need to worry - you can easily resolve this.
You can store Bloodied Caches you obtain from Season Journey or Meat Room in your stash. Then, create a new level 1 character. Using this low-level alt, retrieve Bloodied Caches from the stash and open them.
Bloodied Cache will grant a significant amount of experience and various Diablo 4 items, but importantly, every compass that drops from it will be the standard Bloodstained Infernal Compass, not Bloodsoaked version. You can then deposit these compasses and any items into the stash for your main character to use.
Keep in mind that when using this method, ensure your new character and your main character are on the same game mode; otherwise, they cannot share items.
These are the ways to handle Infernal Compasses in Season 12. Even if you have inadvertently cleared The Pit Tier 100, there's no need to panic. By following these methods, you can restore the game to a more manageable difficulty.
