Diablo 4 Season 10 Loot System Changes And Second IP Collaboration Predictions

Diablo 4 Season 10 developer livestream is coming soon, and many players are concerned about several issues, such as loot system changes and the Second IP Collaboration.

Players who have experienced the game on the PTR will recognize that this season may be an interesting one, but not a groundbreaking one. However, the developers have also shared their update goals and plans. Below are some possible second IP collaborations. Let's take a look.

Loot System

The development team has clarified that upon reaching Torment difficulty, Blue (Magic) and Yellow (Rare) items will no longer drop. This will completely address excessive junk gear in the endgame. The drop rate for globally unique gear will be increased, making it easier for players to get them in regular gameplay.

Additionally, they plan to design differentiated loot tables for different endgame bosses in the future. Players will need to farm specifically for the specific unique or exceptionally powerful items they desire. Specific bosses will be targeted, rather than all bosses dropping nearly identical items as is currently the case.

Magic and rare items after Torment difficulty are essentially garbage, and few players would place them in their inventory to sell to vendors for Diablo 4 gold. Endgame materials are clearly more valuable, so this is a welcome change.

Increasing the drop rate of unique equipment across the board has both advantages and disadvantages. It may speed up gameplay and reduce the sense of accomplishment associated with acquiring equipment, but for casual players, it will shorten build time, which is a positive for most players.

The changes to the boss-specific drop pool are positive. If duplicate items can be eliminated, this will significantly reduce time and allow players to get the equipment they need more quickly.

Leaderboards (The Pit)

Diablo 4's current leaderboards are simply tiers of The Pit. While they do provide some XP and Diablo 4 gold, for endgame players, this isn't the reason they'll repeatedly enter The Pit.

Although officials state that the core design of the current leaderboards is to showcase mastery of their builds, and also to avoid the mistakes of Diablo III, where rankings were more focused on paragon level and the time-consuming grind of Greater Rifts.

Given the current state of The Pit, whether it truly achieves its goal of allowing players to showcase their builds and proficiency remains debatable.

Because build strength currently outweighs skill, a novice player using a Tier S build can far outperform a skilled player using Tier F builds. Therefore, rankings are more dependent on what you play than how you play.

ARPGs are inherently random, and factors like equipment drops, attributes, and monster distribution all influence rankings in The Pit. Competitive content ultimately comes down to luck.

Furthermore, when the outcome depends on luck and unlimited attempts are allowed, the ultimate competition always comes down to who can invest the most time in achieving a perfect game.

Loot Filter

The player community has long discussed loot filters, and the developers have stated they are considering them, but no further details have been shared yet.

Compared to traditional loot filters that hide items, an Auto Salvage Filter might be more suitable for the current state of Diablo 4.

Players can set rules, such as automatically salvaging all non-Ancestral Legendary gear, or automatically salvaging all gloves without "Cooldown Reduction" or "+Skill Level" attributes. This way, equipment that doesn't meet these rules will be converted directly into materials and Diablo 4 gold when it drops, rather than being displayed or dropped on the ground.

This not only simplifies the looting process but also reduces the processing pressure on the game client, as it eliminates the need to generate and render junk equipment entities. This fundamentally improves the experience.

While loot filters are considered a temporary fix, if the root cause of useless equipment drops cannot be reduced, this "advanced Band-Aid" is essential.

IP Collaboration

According to the previously announced 2025 roadmap, Season 10 will feature a second IP collaboration, which has been officially confirmed. However, the first IP collaboration with Branded Warriors was rather perfunctory, so hopefully, Season 10 will feature a more diverse format.

The official IP partner for Season 10 has not yet been announced; this may not happen until November. However, Final Fantasy XIV director Naoki Yoshida has publicly expressed his love for Diablo series and his desire to collaborate. Despite the significant differences between Final Fantasy XIV's style and Diablo's, FF14 is currently experiencing a downturn, and Yoshida is eager to expand FF14's influence and attract new players, so a collaboration between the two remains a possibility.

Future Of Seasonal Powers

The developers stated that season powers are like the icing on a cake; the contents of the cake remain largely unchanged. However, they hope that future seasonal mechanics will resemble Season 10 Chaos Perks and Chaos Armor will profoundly alter the synergies between skills, legendary items, paragon disks, and items, going beyond superficial icing.

This answer may disappoint players, as the various power models have become boring over the past few seasons and players were expecting more fundamental changes.

The developers are currently making and planning a series of positive, player-driven improvements to the game systems, but Diablo 4 still falls short of what both developers and players expect. We look forward to seeing more progress.
