Warlock Confirmed Across Diablo 4, Immortal, and D2R in Diablo 30th Anniversary Livestream | They Just Changed Three Games at Once

Diablo 4's official announcement dropped a bombshell. While leaked images hinted that the second class in Lord of Hatred expansion was Warlock, Diablo 30th Anniversary livestream still surprised players.
The presentation not only confirmed that Warlock would be a new class in Diablo 4, but even more surprisingly, this new spellcaster class would also be available in Diablo Immortal and Diablo II: Resurrected
This means that three Diablo titles from different generations will simultaneously receive their respective Warlock classes. Diablo II: Resurrected unexpectedly announced a major update called Reign of the Warlock, indicating it's much more than just a new class update.

Official Warlock Demo
The presentation's animation officially showcased the evolution of Warlock class across the three games. Instead of simply copying skills and gameplay, they showcased the evolution of Warlocks along a timeline and storyline, meaning each Warlock has its own unique characteristics.
The earliest Warlock appearance appeared in Diablo II: Resurrected timeline. At this time, Warlocks were still in their exploratory stages, merely heretics dabbling in forbidden magic.
By the time of Diablo Immortal, Warlocks were able to more actively wield demonic power. And in Diablo IV timeline, Warlocks were highly skilled, able to command demonic power to slaughter demons.
Diablo II: Resurrected - Reign of the Warlock
The new update for Diablo II: Resurrected, Reign of the Warlock, is a major release. The development team designed an entire system around Warlock class, along with a large amount of endgame content and quality-of-life optimizations added at the same time, making this D2R update feel almost like a standalone expansion.
Warlock Mechanics
In D2R, Warlocks possess three summoning specializations and dual interaction capabilities, allowing for highly flexible builds.
Warlocks can summon three types of demons:
- Goatman
- Tainted
- Defiler
But this is just the beginning. The true gameplay of Warlock classes lies in the interactive mechanics of Bind and Consume.
Bind allows you to convert almost any demon in the game into your minions. The developers have been quite bold in this aspect, and you're not limited to a fixed few types of demons, but can capture any demon from the battlefield. A bound demon will provide you with its unique skill bonuses, while also strengthening both you and the demon itself. However, the limitation is that you can only have one bound demon at a time.
Consume is the other extreme. Warlocks kill demons and absorb their essence, gaining temporary buffs including health and movement speed. Depending on the type of demon consumed, it may also grant special effects such as +1 to all skills or specific auras.
In other words, as a Warlock, you can simultaneously do the following:
- Summon 1 demon
- Bind 1 demon
- Consume 1 demon
Considering Diablo 2's vast monster roster, the possible variations of this combination are hundreds. Not to mention, if you don't want to play a summoner build, you can go Chaos Magic route, focusing on Hellfire and Eldritch spells.
Endgame
Reign of the Warlock also includes updates to the endgame content. They've adjusted Terror Zones gameplay, and players can now actively choose to convert an area into a Terror Zone using a rare consumable, instead of completely random.
In Hell difficulty, players will randomly encounter Heralds of Terror. They will relentlessly pursue the player, and each defeat will summon an even stronger next one. The final bosses of each act in Terror difficulty will drop a key used to unlock the new Pinnacle Fight, which will be an even more challenging battle.
Quality of Life
D2R finally welcomes the loot filter. Players can create, import, and export filter rules.
Advanced Stash Tabs allow gems, runes, and materials to be stacked, with dedicated category tabs.
Furthermore, Chronicle system will automatically record every piece of equipment you pick up, even including the pickup date. Collecting specific sets will also grant cosmetic rewards.
Over 30 new Diablo 2 Resurrected items are now implemented, but they are not free, and you can choose not to play them. D2R will retain the original version servers.

War Plans

War Plans is the upcoming endgame customization system for D4. Players can choose up to five to create their desired endgame content:
- The Pit
- Infernal Hordes
- Helltides
- Nightmare Dungeons
- Lair Bosses
- Undercity
Each activity has its own independent skill tree. The more you farm, the deeper you progress in the event's skill tree, allowing you to customize Diablo 4 items you want to drop. Path of Exile and Last Epoch have similar systems.
Skill Tree Rework
The old skill tree is completely obsolete. The new skill tree removes all passive nodes, dedicating all points to skills and their modifications. Now, each skill has two duo options (similar to passives) and one trinity option related to skill enhancement, which can completely alter the skill's mechanics.
The official statement indicates that the skill tree rework will impact the existing meta, essentially reshuffling all Tier S builds. Players will need to rediscover the new strongest builds.
Talisman System

Talismans are a new system introduced in Diablo 4, used to house set items and charms.
Charms only take effect when a charm is embedded. A seal is placed in the central slot of a Charm, and seal determines how many charm slots the charm can unlock. A Legendary Seal unlocks 5 Charm slots.
The presentation showcased a set of Charms called Nilfur's Narrow Eye. Each piece provides individual attributes, and collecting 2/3 pieces unlocks set bonus. Charms themselves have rarity levels, meaning that not only set Charms exist, but also individual Legendary Charms.
Horadric Cube

Diablo 4's Horadric Cube encompasses two main functions: Item Transmutation and Gear Modification.
Item Transmutation:
- Amalgamation
- Upgrade to Legendary
- Recycle Uniques
- 3 to 1 Transmutation
- Reroll set Charms
- Craft Unique Charms
Gear Modification:
- Transfigure
- Add Affix
- Chaotic Roll
Horadric Cube is very comprehensive, meaning that rare and magic items will regain value. Just like in PoE, you can start from a base and add affixes yourself to create legendary or unique items.
Diablo 30th Anniversary Livestream has already given us enough surprises, but they've also hinted at an even bigger surprise planned for BlizzCon in September. Let's wait and see.
