College Football 27's First Update Was Bigger Than EA Let On

Category: College Football 27 Posted: Jul 17, 2026 Views: 17

EA previously described College Football 27's first update as a relatively small patch focused mainly on fixing bugs and improving overall stability. It was not presented as a major content update.

However, after the patch went live, players quickly discovered that the update included much more than the developers notes suggested. Alongside the expected fixes, EA quietly added several new equipment options, visual improvements, and presentation updates.

While the patch does not introduce any new game modes or major gameplay features, the amount of detail included makes it a much more substantial update than initially expected.

College Football 27's First Update Was Bigger Than EA Let On

Multiple Teams Receive New Uniforms

One of the most noticeable additions in this update is new uniforms for several college teams.

Tennessee's new uniforms have finally been added to NCAA 27. Since the team's updated design was revealed after the game launched, it was not available in the original release.

The update adds Tennessee's latest adidas uniforms, bringing back a more traditional appearance highlighted by the return of the large square number font.

For Tennessee fans, this is one of those small additions that makes a big difference. Seeing Volunteers finally wear their current uniforms in Dynasty Mode makes the team feel far more authentic.

The team's black uniforms are still missing from the game, but they could be added in a future update since they were revealed later.

TCU also received several new uniform options, including Dublin-themed uniforms planned for the team's upcoming appearance. The long-awaited TCU Blood Frog uniforms have also been added, despite not being specifically mentioned in EA's official patch notes.

Elsewhere, Texas' SEC logo placement has been adjusted, moving it to a more accurate position below the collar.

These changes show that developers are continuing to expand team-specific details beyond gameplay fixes. While uniforms do not affect how games are played, they are an important part of the college football presentation, especially for players who spend most of their time in CBF 27 Dynasty Mode.

A Large Number of New Helmets Added

Uniform updates were not the only equipment changes included in the patch. Several teams also received new helmet options.

Illinois added orange and blue letter helmets, while Cincinnati received new white helmet designs. Rutgers' long-awaited American-themed helmets are now available as well.

Several other programs also received smaller equipment updates, including Illinois, Cincinnati, Rutgers, BYU, and Texas Tech. While these additions may not completely change the way teams look, they add another layer of authenticity for NCAA 27 players who spend hundreds of hours building their Dynasty programs.

One of the bigger equipment additions comes from Sacramento, one of the newer teams featured. The team previously had limited equipment options, but this update adds multiple new helmets, including white S logo designs, Hornet-themed helmets, green S logo designs, and several Sack and 916-themed options.

916-themed helmets are among the more unique additions in the update. They feature 916 on one side of the helmet and the player's number on the other, adding a clear connection to the team's regional identity.

Other smaller equipment adjustments include updated number fonts on Florida's orange uniforms, resized numbers on Alabama's uniforms, and new shorts designs for Navy, Georgia, and Southern.

These additions may seem minor individually, but they help make each team feel more complete and accurate throughout a long Dynasty Mode save.

Player Models Receive Improvements

This update also includes several improvements to player appearances.

Dante Moore's updated model has attracted the most attention from CBF 27 players. As one of the athletes featured heavily in the game's promotion, his original in-game appearance received criticism for not being accurate enough. The new update improves both his facial model and overall appearance.

Gunner Stockton also received a visual update. Since he was added later in the development cycle, his previous model was relatively basic, and this patch gives him a more complete representation.

However, NCAA 27 still does not use full real-person scanning technology for every athlete. Some player models are created using a combination of photographs and manual adjustments, which means the quality can vary from player to player.

Moving forward, individual player model improvements will likely remain one of EA's priorities as the developers continue refining the visual side of the game.

New Opening Animations and Presentation Updates

Beyond equipment and player models, the update also adds a new opening animation along with additional school-specific presentation effects.

These additions do not change gameplay, but they help strengthen the atmosphere that College Football 27 is trying to create. Small presentation details are a major part of making college football feel different from other sports games.

Although developers originally labeled this as a minor update, the first patch ended up delivering a wide range of improvements across the game.

As the college football season continues, more updates are expected to bring additional equipment changes, visual improvements, and further refinements.

For players looking for a more authentic college football experience, this update is a positive sign that developers are continuing to improve the details that matter most.
