Nioh 3 officially launched on February 6th. This game is even more fun than the previous two installments, and you can easily get hooked. Even players who have never played Nioh series before have joined in.

Whether you've played Nioh series before or not, everyone is a beginner now. Here are some tips for beginners to help you have a better gaming experience.

1. Change Controller Type

This is especially important, particularly for gamepad users. Please change your control scheme from Type A to Type E or Type F, as this will be closest to the controls of Nioh 2. This is useful for both newcomers and returning veterans. If you use the default Type A scheme, you'll find many custom martial arts button combinations very awkward.

2. Try Different Playstyles

Don't be afraid to experiment with different playstyles or builds from the early game. This is because resetting attribute points and skill trees is completely free and doesn't consume any resources. You can simply perform a reset in any shrine within the game.

Therefore, if you want to try different gameplay styles or test the feel of different weapons, it's easier now than ever. It's also recommended to adopt a more balanced attribute allocation scheme in the early game, such as allocating most attribute points to 10 or 20. You can slightly shift towards Heart attribute to gain extra health and Ki.

Having sufficient Ki early on means you have enough resources for dodging or blocking, and you'll still have the strength to pursue enemies later. In the early stages, your main source of damage and defense is acquiring higher-level equipment, and attribute points will only have a significant impact later in the game when you reach the cap.

3. Combat Techniques at Low Ki

If you run out of Ki and are about to be comboed by an enemy, how do you get out of this hitstun state? You have several options, some of which are new.

One mechanic carried over from the previous game is that you can still use Guardian Spirit attack to immediately escape. Even if your Chi is zero and you're about to be comboed, as long as the attack is available, you can use it immediately to break free from the animation stun.

For Ninja playstyle, you have R1 button Mist ability. This is a separate dodge mechanic that can be used after an attack. It doesn't consume any ki, but note that its Invulnerability Window is very short. Therefore, your timing must be very precise, unlike a regular dodge which has more flexibility.

For Samurai playstyle, you can utilize Flux mechanic. Switch between different stances during an attack and recover some ki. Additionally, you have Frost Moon follow-up attack, which allows you to follow up between three stances.

4. Weapon Skills

You'll always want to max out your weapon's Familiarity, especially for Crucible weapons, as this is the only way to obtain the strongest weapon skills in the game.

Crucible weapons have a chance to drop weapons with a red skull icon next to their names. Many of these weapons possess unique Arts that cannot be obtained through other means.

You'll immediately gain this ability when you first equip these weapons. However, to permanently unlock this ability and make it usable with any other weapon in that category, you need to increase your proficiency with that weapon.

The method for leveling up is simple: equip it and then enter combat to defeat enemies. You don't need to use it to kill enemies to increase proficiency, and simply entering combat is enough.

Therefore, you can even place it in a secondary weapon slot that unlocks later in the game and use your primary weapon in combat. So, it's definitely worth carrying a Crucible weapon to eventually unlock all the skills of all weapons.

5. Exploration

A major highlight of Nioh 3 is its open world, and exploring it is extremely important. By interacting with the open world, you will gain many skill points and unique abilities. Even small animals will give you important upgrading items.

Perhaps the most important of these is Chijiko, which you can usually see or hear from a distance. They usually float in the air. You can shoot them down with a bow and arrow.

If you want more points of interest to automatically appear on the map, you can do so by leveling up that sub-area to the maximum level. Advancing the map, opening treasure chests, defeating enemies, and completing side quests will all grant experience points. Once you reach level 4, all points of interest will be displayed.

6. Secret Interactions

One of them is that you can defuse most ambushes using emote. This essentially avoids all combat and gives you immediate rewards.

You'll often find chests and even statues that you can interact with, but many of them will spawn a clone after a few seconds to ambush you. Keep your eyes on the emote it makes the moment it spawns, and then imitate that emote yourself. Doing so will make it friendly, disappear instantly, and generate all the rewards you would otherwise need to defeat it for.

Also, watch out for wells. Most wells have secret rewards. Simply attack the stone at the well's opening to make it fall, and resources will appear from the other side, usually some equipment.

7. How to Get More Equipment?

Don't overlook Yokai Teardrops in the wild, and treat them like treasure goblins. They're small and carry glowing shells. Defeating them usually yields a large amount of Nioh 3 gold and items if you don't let them escape.

They drop more items than most enemies, even some elite monsters, with the amount of equipment they drop almost reaching the level of bosses.

These are some tips that beginners should pay attention to in Nioh 3, and they can make your get a good start.
