WoW TBC Anniversary Phase 3 Raid Bugs and Loot Issues | What Could Go Wrong at Launch?

WoW TBC Anniversary Phase 3 PTR has ended, and players did find several bugs during testing. What is concerning is that some of them also appeared in TBC Classic back in 2022.
The official team has not indicated that these issues have been fixed yet. Therefore, players preparing to enter WoW TBC Phase 3 raids should be ready for the possibility of encountering these bugs. Let's take a look at how they work.

Agonizing Flames
First up is Agonizing Flames, a spell used by Illidan during Phases 3 and 5. The spell randomly selects a raid member, dealing initial damage and applying a DoT effect, while also affecting players around the target.
In theory, tanks can indeed be hit by this ability. The spell description does not state that tanks are immune, nor does it specifically target the highest-threat player. Instead, it randomly selects a raid member. However, during Phase 3 PTR, tanks were hit by Agonizing Flames far more frequently than expected. This is a new bug that did not occur in WoW TBC Classic.
Tanks have to withstand not only the initial damage and DoT, but also Illidan's heavy melee attacks at the same time. Although a tank should theoretically have only a 1/25 chance of being selected, being hit more than 10 times in a row clearly indicates that something is wrong.
The raid still needs to spread out to prevent other players from being affected, but the unusually high frequency of tanks being targeted must be taken seriously. This is clearly an issue that needs an urgent fix from the official team. Otherwise, it could significantly increase the pressure on both tanks and healers.
Mount Hyjal Minion Wave Not Respawning Bug
Next is an old issue in Mount Hyjal. It was already reported in 2022, and surprisingly, this bug still has not been fixed.
The issue occurs at Horde camp before the third boss, Kaz'rogal. The first wave of minions fails to spawn, leaving the raid with no choice but to wait for the timer to expire before the second wave appears. Although the raid may initially seem able to continue, this eventually prevents Kaz'rogal from spawning and causes Thrall to disappear, leaving the entire instance progression stuck.
There is a temporary workaround. After defeating the second boss, Anetheron, the entire raid needs to leave the instance and reset the raid progress before returning to Horde camp. This should resolve the issue.
Unless the official team announces a fix before the launch, all raid groups are advised to use this workaround to avoid wasting time.
Archimonde Infinite Tank Knockback Bug
Mount Hyjal's final boss, Archimonde, also has a serious issue. His signature ability, Air Burst, randomly selects a target and launches them into the air. Players must use Tears of the Goddess to land safely after being launched, otherwise they will die from fall damage.
However, on PTR, the tank was hit by Air Burst every single time. As long as the tank remained alive, the ability was guaranteed to target them. Only after the tank died would Air Burst start targeting other players.
Tears of the Goddess is a Bind on Pickup item and cannot be traded for WoW TBC Classic Anniversary gold, which means tank players will also have to spend time farming it to keep a supply available when needed.
There are two ways to deal with this issue. The first is to use a Feral Druid tank. Druids can immediately use Feral Charge after being knocked into the air to return to the boss.
Another method is to position the boss against the mountain wall. The tank needs to keep their back against the terrain and use the environment to prevent being knocked too far away,
Tier Token Quantity Reverted
In WoW BCC Anniversary Phase 2, the official team increased the number of Tier Tokens dropped by each boss from two to three. This change was widely welcomed by the community. However, during Phase 3 PTR, each boss was once again dropping only two Tier Tokens.
Although the official team never explicitly promised that Phase 3 would continue the three-token system, common sense suggests there was little reason for this change to exist only during Phase 2. If the official team decides to revert it, it would undoubtedly be a step backward, and the official PTR notes did not mention this change either.
Heroic Dungeon Loot Changes

The official team previously stated in WoW TBC Phase 2 PTR development notes that they planned to make additional changes to Heroic dungeon boss loot in Phase 3.
This statement clearly indicated that Heroic dungeon loot mechanics would change in Phase 3. Players have made plenty of guesses about what those changes might be. Some believe Epic Gems could be added as direct drops, while others speculate that high-end items similar to Dragonspine Trophy could be introduced.
However, Phase 3 PTR patch notes did not mention any Heroic dungeon changes at all. If the official team intended to make such changes, they should have been tested during PTR.
However, WoW TBC Phase 3 PTR did not introduce any such changes. Unless something actually changes after Phase 3 launches, the only conclusion is that the official team forgot about it.
Haste and Destruction Potion Quartermaster
Of course, not everything is bad news. If you reach Exalted reputation with Cenarion Expedition, Aldor, or Scryers, you can visit Mark of the Illidari Quartermaster and exchange Marks of the Illidari for Haste Potions and Destruction Potions.
This change has been confirmed for the live version. Although it will have some impact on players with Alchemy, it is generally a positive change for the game environment.
WoW TBC Phase 3 will officially launch on August 27. None of the issues mentioned above have received an official response so far, which could indicate that TBC is no longer a major priority for the official team. Therefore, players should be prepared to encounter these problems when Phase 3 goes live.
