As you dive into Phase 5 of WoW MoP Classic, you are likely eager to be among the first to explore its most engaging and challenging content.
However, accessing this content, and succeeding in it, relies entirely on your character being sufficiently powerful and your personal gameplay skills being reliable enough for the task.
With this in mind, and to help you integrate more quickly into the game's more difficult content, Phase 5 introduces a new solo-centric feature: Proving Grounds.
Based on your specific role (DPS, Tank, or Healer), you can enter these trials to hone your techniques and improve your performance.
Below, we provide all the essential information you need to know before entering Proving Grounds, along with role-specific guides tailored to each specialization.

What are Proving Grounds?
Among the various mechanics introduced in MoP Classic, there is a story-driven game mode known as Scenarios, which allows groups of up to three players to team up and participate. Proving Grounds can essentially be thought of as a solo version of these Scenarios.
Regardless of your class or role, you will encounter four distinct difficulty levels within Proving Grounds: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Endless. Each difficulty level presents waves of enemies that you must defeat within a specific time limit:

Once you have reached the maximum level and feel confident in your ability to handle the challenge, you can access Proving Grounds by speaking with your class trainer or by finding Master Rotun at Temple of the White Tiger in Kun-Lai Summit.
It is worth noting that the purpose of Proving Grounds is to hone your operational skills; therefore, it does not offer gear or other material rewards. The only reward available, granted upon clearing 30 waves of enemies at Endless difficulty level, is a title:

Interestingly, if you complete an objective that does not pertain to your assigned role during Silver difficulty trial, for instance, if you are playing a tank specialization but deal a sufficient amount of damage, you can unlock the special achievement: You're Doing it Wrong.
General mechanics
While certain mechanics, such as enemy types or combat strategies, may vary slightly depending on your assigned role, there are several universal mechanics that all players should master.
First, upon entering Proving Grounds, the item level of all your equipped gear will be uniformly scaled down to 463. Furthermore, all set bonuses and special gem effects are completely disabled.
However, this does not mean you must rely solely on your gear and abilities to survive within Proving Grounds; the system has placed several NPCs within the arena, each serving a distinct function:

| Mystic Quillstar | Allows you to reforge your gear's attributes to optimize your stats. |

| Xuen's Presence | Applies standard raid buffs to you and debuffs to your enemies. |
In addition to the items provided by Furnisher Echoroot, you may also bring your own flasks and food; however, other types of consumables are not permitted.
Given this, it's best to buy WoW MoP Classic gold from IGGM. This ensures you can always acquire supplies, whether by getting them from the auction house beforehand or trading with NPCs, whenever you need them.
Upon reaching the entrance to Proving Grounds, speak with Master Rotun to begin the challenge. If you find yourself overwhelmed during the trial, simply speak with him again to exit.
DPS tips
If you are a DPS player, the primary objective of Proving Grounds is to push you to unleash your maximum potential within a limited timeframe, thereby helping you improve your positioning and damage output capabilities in combat.
Consequently, enemies in these encounters will not deal damage to your health points; however, if the timer runs out before you have cleared the enemies, the attempt is naturally considered a failure.
In the first three difficulty tiers, the initial wave of enemies lasts for 30 seconds, while the duration of subsequent waves gradually increases. In Endless difficulty, every wave lasts for 60 seconds.
Occasionally during the trial, a Berserking buff will appear; utilizing it allows you to boost your damage output by 30% for a short duration.
If you feel the current encounter is easy enough that you do not need the buff, you may choose to save it to help you handle more difficult waves later on.
There are 8 distinct types of enemies that can appear in DPS Proving Grounds, though all 8 types only appear in Gold and Endless difficulty tiers:
- Amber-Weaver
- Banana-Tosser
- Banshee
- Guardian
- Mystic
- Sha
- Slayer
- Varmint
It is worth noting that for every role, regardless of the specific enemy type, there exist two versions: Small Illusionary and Large Illusionary. The former possesses lower health and deals less damage than the latter.
Healer tips
As a healer, your role in Proving Grounds is to learn how to heal your teammates efficiently, promptly, and accurately. To this end, the game provides you with four NPC teammates.
Your sole objective is to ensure that everyone of them remains alive by the time the encounter concludes. Proving Grounds challenges of this type feature six enemy types; their spawn patterns mirror those found in DPS Proving Grounds:
- Aqualyte
- Conqueror
- Flamecaller
- Hive-Singer
- Ripper
- Tunneler
Tank tips
As a Tank in Proving Grounds, you will be joined by an ally named Sikari the Mistweaver, who possesses capabilities for both healing and damage output.
You must devise a strategy to ensure the survival of both yourself and Sikari in order to successfully complete the challenge. The following is a list of all potential enemy types you may encounter:
- Ambusher
- Conqueror
- Flamecaller
- Forager
- Ripper
- Wind-Guard
