WARDOGS FOB Guide for Beginners | How to Build, Defend, and Manage Your Forward Operating Base?

In war, logistics often determine victory or defeat, and WARDOGS reflects this to some extent. You need to build and defend a Forward Operating Base (FOB) while gradually taking control of more territory.

Although many players don‘t enjoy messing around with hammers, they would rather pick up a gun and fight. However, in Wardogs, staying at the base and building structures may actually earn you more money.

Building an impenetrable FOB requires some skill. If you have no idea what you are doing, your opponents may slip through the various gaps in your walls and shoot you. Let's take a look at what you should do as a beginner builder.

WARDOGS FOB Guide for Beginners | How to Build, Defend, and Manage Your Forward Operating Base?

Hammer

You can obtain equipment from Shop Vendor. The item you are looking for is the Hammer. Beginners start with Small Hammer, which has a limited selection of structures that it can build.

Small Hammer

Small Hammer can build Recon Tent, Hedgehog, Barb Wire, Sandbag Wall, Builder's Radio, and Hesco Block.

Recon Tent is suitable for snipers, while Hesco Block works well for creating smaller defensive walls. Hedgehog is useful for blocking tanks and other vehicles from passing through roads.

Currently, Builder's Radio serves no practical purpose other than playing music; even if all players hear your music, it won't increase Wardogs cash you earn at the base.

Although these structures are fairly basic, everything except Builder's Radio is highly practical, and any player can carry them.

Medium Hammer

In addition to everything that can be built with Small Hammer, Medium Hammer allows you to start constructing larger FOB defensive structures, such as Doors, Gates, and Hesco Walls.

Door can only be used by you and your teammates, and it closes automatically. After you leave it for a certain amount of time or move far enough away, it will close on its own.

Gate works in a similar way, but it is designed for large vehicles. It can be troublesome because many players leave Gate open, especially when random players are passing through.

Therefore, be careful with it. Unless it is needed for vehicles entering or leaving the base, keeping Gate open is generally not recommended.

Hesco Wall is extremely strong. You can build 4 Hesco Blocks at once, making it ideal for quickly surrounding FOB and preventing enemies from breaking in.

If you feel that building walls takes too long, you may be overlooking the yellow X markers on them. Simply hit these markers with your Hammer to build the wall faster.

Large Hammer

Large Hammer is the one most worth working toward because it allows you to construct structures that provide your FOB with additional firepower. You can build the Indirect Fire Shelter, Recon Tower, Bunker, Bremer Wall, Gas Station, and more.

Indirect Fire Shelter can be placed between Hesco Walls to create an opening, and it can also form a system similar to a trench. Recon Tower provides an elevated firing position with a ladder, making it suitable for creating a defensive position at higher ground.

The top of Bunker is flat, allowing you to place equipment such as Mortars or CIWS on it. CIWS is highly effective against airborne vehicles such as Helicopters.

It works like a large machine gun or a miniature cannon, and Helicopters cannot disrupt it with flares. As long as you aim properly, you can shoot them down.

Mortars provide fire support from above, and the system does not require much calculation. You can use the small grid squares on the map or have a teammate call out the distance.

Bremer Wall is essentially a large concrete slab with a small amount of barbed wire along the top, but you cannot continue building on top of it. It is usually used as the final defensive layer.

It is recommended to build Hesco Walls first and then place Bremer Walls behind them, giving your defenses additional height while making it extremely difficult for enemies to climb over without taking damage.

Stingray is a deployable UAV that can destroy vehicles, FOBs, and other targets. It is useful for scouting enemy positions or launching an attack when you have a general idea of where the enemy's spawn vehicles are located.

Drill Rig is one of the most important structures in this toolkit. It can be constructed at your FOB, and as long as it has enough fuel and its cooldown has finished, it can repeatedly pull Hot Zones toward your position.

Drill Rig gets its fuel from Logistics. This is particularly important during the late stages of an FOB operation. Once the base has been fully secured and protected, a well-coordinated team can make excellent use of it.

Placing Your FOB

Placing Your FOB

It is recommended to place your FOB somewhere that is difficult for Mortars to hit. For example, you can place it beneath a tall tower or inside a building with a large roof to reduce the chance of being hit by Mortar fire.

Once an FOB has been placed, it cannot be moved, so make sure you are satisfied with the location. You also need to make sure there is enough space on both sides to place structures such as Hesco Walls, allowing you to surround FOB.

You can use Hesco Walls to enclose FOB while leaving one entrance so that you can enter and use FOB Computer.

FOB Computer

After placing an FOB, you will receive some Bandages, as well as a Small Hammer and Medium Hammer for free. This is convenient for teammates who want to help with construction but have not unlocked Medium Hammer yet, or who arrive at FOB without a Hammer.

You will also receive some Wrenches, which can be used to repair Helicopters or vehicles. There are also Signal Grenades, which are used to mark landing zones or supply locations.

There are several types of resources above FOB Computer:

  • Build
  • Fuel
  • Ammo
  • Mechanical

You can place supplies inside FOB, allowing everyone within its radius to use these resources for construction, operate Mortars, or perform other tasks.

This covers the basics of construction in Wardogs, enough to let a beginner know what can be done with a hammer. Once you are familiar with the basics, you can experiment with more interesting construction projects.
