PoE 3.29.2 Hidden Profits Revealed: Abyss Scarab Prices Surge and Legion Changes Impact Unique Drops

Path of Exile received patch 3.29.2, a significant update focusing on deep adjustments to Abyss and Legion mechanics, while also providing several optimizations to the current Curse of the Allflame league.
Abyss Changes
Abyss is the most anticipated aspect of this patch, with changes on two levels: increased elite monster stats and a rework of Abyss Scarab of Crystals mechanic.
Elite Monster Enhancement
Elite monsters spawned in Abyss Pits will have increased monster effectiveness. This concept was first introduced in PoE 2 and subsequently ported back to the first game - they can be understood as the elite of the elite, more durable, with significantly better loot and experience than regular monsters of the same rarity in the same area.
Abyss Scarab of Crystals Reworked
This is another major core change in this Abyss update. Previously named Abyss Scarab of Edifice, its effect was to generate Abyssal Crystals from Abyss Pits that didn't contain rewards. However, a problem arose - since subsequent closed Pits had an increasingly higher chance of generating rewards, very few Pits actually triggered Crystals.
Patch 3.29.2 changes this: Abyss Scarab of Crystals will now generate a Crystal on every non-final Pit. Even if Pit itself generates a reward, Crystal will still appear simultaneously. The purpose of Abyssal Crystals is to increase the difficulty and rewards of all subsequent Abyss monsters, meaning it's a snowballing benefit mechanism.
It's worth noting that the value of Abyss Scarab of Crystals has skyrocketed since the patch release. If you're considering acquiring it but have limited resources, you can buy PoE currency from IGGM.com, as the benefits of this mechanism far outweigh the cost.

Legion Changes: Crystal Overcharge Mechanism
Legion changes are quite subtle - they don't apply in all situations and require players to make judgments based on their goals.
Items shrouded in Crystal of Permutation can now be charged up to 3 times. Each charge increases Variant Rarity, and the higher Variant Rarity, the more likely the resulting Vestigial item is to be a Unique item. Furthermore, just one charge, granting at least 1 point of Variant Rarity, allows you to break Crystal and retrieve Vestigial Item.
This mechanism tilts all items towards rarity, but sometimes rarity isn't always better.
For example, The Gull is the most common Unique item in the game and isn't inherently valuable, but if the resulting Vestigial Item inherits its specific Unique Implicit property, it can have a high trading value.
If your goal is precisely this Vestigial Implicit property from The Gull, then overcharging may not be the best option. Because each charge increases Variant Rarity, it also means that the weight of common Uniques like The Gull will be further reduced.
Therefore, charging isn't simply a matter of mindlessly charging three times. If the goal is extremely rare Uniques like Mageblood or Headhunter, multiple charges can increase the chance of encountering them; however, if the goal is the high-value Implicit provided by common Uniques like The Gull, then only one charge is needed to meet the conditions for breaking Crystal.
Voyage & Offerings to the Deep Altars Optimization
Voyage mechanism is the core gameplay of Curse of the Allflame league. Patch 3.29.2 makes significant adjustments to Offers to the Deep Altars involving currency conversion:
- Altars now directly display their probability of providing currency conversion;
- Conversion probabilities have been increased across the board: regular Blessings from 4% to 10%, and Empowered Blessings from 8% to 20%;
- Altars appear less frequently overall, but their effects are more pronounced each time they appear.
In summary, as long as you regularly find and interact with these altars, the total number of conversions will remain roughly the same or slightly higher in the long run.

In addition, this patch comprehensively optimizes Voyage experience in Path of Exile:
- A new button for one-click loot pickup has been added.
- Leaving an encounter via a spare capsule is now possible without placing all lanterns.
- Allflame Capsules can now be used by multiple players to send loot to the ground (shared inventory capacity).
- The inventory display in Charted Charts within Voyage planning UI has been doubled.
- Modifiers on Charts that previously increased gold gain now increase item rarity.
Overall, while these changes don't fundamentally alter the gameplay, they address almost all the pain points in the player's daily experience, making the Voyage gameplay smoother and more efficient.
Next Week's Preview: Cursed Ducats
Besides the immediate changes in POE 3.29.2, the official announcement also previewed a major update for next week's upcoming patch: six different Cursed Ducats will be obtainable through various endgame methods. These Ducats are quest items and are not tradable.
The navigation interface will feature three new slots, similar to Voidstone slots on Atlas UI. Players can insert Cursed Ducats into these slots, with a maximum of three active at a time. Each Cursed Ducat increases the quantity and rarity of items dropped by monsters in Chart and Voyage encounters, but also introduces unique difficulty modifiers. You can selectively use Cursed Ducats based on the strength of your build.
Overall, Patch 3.29.2 not only enhances the gameplay depth of Abyss and Legion but also further optimizes the overall experience of Curse of the Allflame league. With the release of Cursed Ducats next week, endgame gameplay and reward strategies will see even more exciting new changes.
