Diablo 4 Season 9 Unique Item Nerfs: Which Classes Are Affected The Most?
Posted: May 27, 2025 Views: 126
Horadric Spells in Diablo 4 Season 9 look more fun than Boss Powers, at least they are more flexible. But don’t be too happy, becasue as usual, many unique items that performed too well in Season 8 or exceeded the developers’ expectations will be nerfed.
In addition, the damage of a very important mechanism, Overpower, will be nerfed to 20% of its original value! This means that many builds that rely on this mechanism will be severely hit. Players are also surprised by this, but they are surprised why this mechanism was nerfed until in season 9.
Function of Overpower is to allow some classes with high health to cause damage. The higher the character’s health, the higher Overpower damage that can be caused. The problem is that it performs a little too well, resulting in the builds that use this mechanism in the first few seasons 9 almost notifying the build rankings of Diablo 4. After all, who can refuse a build with high damage and high health?
General Unique Itmes
- Banished Lord’s Talisman: Overpower Damage reduced by 5%
- Locran’s Talisman: All elemental resistance reduced by 2%
- Paingorger’s Gauntlets: Unique effect damage reduced by 25%
- Rakanoth’s Wake: All elemental resistance reduced by 15%
- Shard of Verathiel: Unique effect damage limit reduced by 50%
- Yen’s Blessing: All elemental resistance reduced by 15%
The reduction of general unique Diablo 4 items basically represents the focus of Season 9, which is Overpower and elemental resistance. The reduction of these two aspects will reduce the survivability of Season 9 characters and indirectly increase the difficulty of the game.
However, players can drink elixirs before entering the dungeon to improve their survivability, and exploring the dungeon will get materials and Diablo 4 gold so that players can make new elixirs.
Barbarian Unique Items
- Arreat’s Bearing: Reduced all elemental resistance by 15%
- Ramaladni’s Magnum Opus: Reduced Overpower Damage by 5%
- Twin Strikes: Made some visual adjustments to allow players to more accurately trigger effects
- Ugly Bastard Helm: Requires Wrath of the Berserker to activate unique effects
The biggest nerf for Barbarian is Ugly Bastard Helm. This unique helm is one of the most important components of many builds. Previously, its special effect was triggered as long as the Barbarian was Berserking, and this change will reduce the damage of related builds by at least 40%.
Druid Unique Items
- Mjölnic Ryng: Reduced the damage increase during Cataclysm from 40%-100% to 20%-40%
Although only one unique item of Druid was nerfed, this nerf feels like an enormous blow to Cataclysm Druids. With Overpower and Mjölnic Ryng both nerfed, the damage cap of Cataclysm Druid in Season 9 will be greatly reduced.
However, there is also good news for Druid, the damage of some of his skills has been greatly enhanced.
Necromancer Unique Items
- Bloodless Scream: Removed the Lucky Hit effect, and changed to cause fear and freezing to the surrounding ground after 800 attacks.
- Deathless Visage: Echo damage is reduced to half of the original.
- Indira’s Memory: Damage bonus is reduced to half of the original.
Necromancer is a class that relies more on Overpower. After its nerf, its overall strength is definitely not as good as before. The few unique items nerfed in Season 9 are more common in Necromancer builds, but the next season will further enhance Necromancer as a summoner build, so if you plan to farm Diablo 4 gold, Necromancer is still one of the best classes.
Rogue Unique Items
- Eaglehorn: Penetrating Shot, no longer penetrates walls but bounces back.
- Eyes in the Dark: Death Trap damage increased by 50%, but this unique effect has a 10s CD added to it.
Rogue has not changed much overall. Some of its skills have been enhanced, but Passive and Legendary Aspects have been weakened. Although Eyes in the Dark has increased damage, the 10s CD added also causes Rogue’s combat rhythm to slow down.
Sorcerer Unique Items
- Esu’s Heirloom: Reduced all elemental resistance by 2%.
- Fractured Winterglass: Reduced all elemental resistance from 10.0 - 12.0% to 8.0 - 10.0%.
Sorcerer has had some skills slightly improved in Season 9, with Lightning Spear having a significant damage increase. Lightning Spear Sorcerer build will undoubtedly be stronger until in Season 9.
Other skills have had their damage capped or have had their triggering changed, which has weakened Sorcerer a bit.
Spiritborn Unique Items
- Sepazontec: Reduced the damage of unique items by 20%.
Spiritborn was a bit forgotten in Season 9. Spiritborn is very fast, which is a significant advantage when exploring dungeons and can farm quickly, but Rogue also has this advantage.
Spiritborn didn’t change much in Season 9, and even if it was remembered, it was just a nerf. Whether Spiritborn can surpass Season 8 in Season 9 depends on whether it can effectively use Horadric Spells.
After losing Boss Powers, most classes in Season 9 have been nerfed a lot. Which classes can overcome the impact of the nerf and become the best class in Season 9, and we have to continue to observe in Season 9 PTR.
