The official team has just announced the 30th anniversary event, Legacy of Terror, for Diablo 2 Resurrected. The event affects both Ladder and Non-Ladder modes and will launch simultaneously with the new Ladder season, running from November 13 to November 19.
As a result, it will significantly change the pace of the first 6 days of Ladder progression and give players some substantial advantages. We could even see one of the fastest pushes to Level 99 in the game's history.
Diablo Clone
In D2R, Diablo Clone is normally summoned when a certain number of Stone of Jordan rings have been sold across a server.
However, during Legacy of Terror event, the official team guarantees that Diablo Clone will spawn once every 6 hours. This means almost every player will have an opportunity to obtain an Annihilus charm without any additional requirements.
Annihilus provides the following stats:
- +1 to All Skills
- +10–20 to All Attributes
- +10–20 to All Resistances
- +5–10% to Experience Gained
The experience bonus is particularly useful for early progression, giving players who defeat Diablo Clone sooner a consistent advantage. Non-Ladder players, meanwhile, can take their time leveling up and challenge him once they are strong enough.
How to Defeat Diablo Clone?
Diablo Clone is far more dangerous than the regular Diablo. He has an enormous health pool, extremely high resistances, and rapid health regeneration. Typical early-game gear is rarely enough to deal with him effectively, so players need to prepare ways to suppress his healing and use mechanics such as Crushing Blow.
Diablo Clone has 95% resistance to all four elemental damage types: Fire, Cold, Lightning, and Poison. He also has 50% resistance to Physical and Magic damage. This means conventional elemental builds will deal very little damage, making it extremely difficult to maintain effective DPS.
His melee attacks deal tremendous damage, and characters without sufficient Physical Damage Reduction can easily be killed in a single hit. His Lightning Hose is particularly dangerous, and without enough Lightning Resistance, players can be taken down almost instantly.
It's also worth noting that he deals 200% damage to mercenaries and 400% damage to summoned creatures. This makes your Act 2 mercenary and summons particularly vulnerable against him.
For a fresh Ladder character, reaching at least Level 80 before attempting the fight is recommended. However, this is merely a safety threshold and does not guarantee victory. With specialized gear and coordinated teammates, you can try challenging him at Level 70–75.
Diablo Clone is on an entirely different level from ordinary Hell difficulty encounters. Characters are generally advised to reach Level 80 or higher and prepare specifically for his mechanics.
If you want to be among the first players to challenge Diablo Clone, consider teaming up with a few friends to level together. You can potentially reach Level 75 in around 6–10 hours. By comparison, solo progression can take more than 40 hours.
Terrorized Zones
After defeating Baal, all areas in Normal, Nightmare, and Hell difficulty will become Terrorized Zones.
This will significantly change how players approach leveling. Many groups may first complete Baal waves and defeat Baal, then immediately move to Terrorized Cow Level. Cow Level portal will also open automatically, eliminating the need to travel through Tristram first.
At least in Normal and Nightmare difficulty, we can expect players to repeatedly farm in groups using a Baal → Cow Level rotation. In Hell difficulty, the route may instead involve clearing Baal's waves and defeating him before heading to Chaos Sanctuary to kill Diablo.
Whether groups also farm Cow Level will depend on their overall strength. In public games, Cow Level should be relatively manageable for an early eight-player group, provided everyone avoids getting hit by Hell Bovines.
100% MF and 15% Vendor Discount
During Legacy of Terror, every player will receive an additional 100% Magic Find and a 15% Vendor Discount.
The 15% Vendor Discount is already a nice bonus, and it can also stack with other effects. With just the following two items, players can increase the total discount to 45%.
- Edge: A Runeword crafted using Tir + Tal + Amn, which can be inserted into a three-socket bow or crossbow.
- Gheed's Fortune: Provides a 10%–15% Vendor Discount.
A 45% Vendor Discount allows players to trade with vendors more frequently, gamble repeatedly, and get more opportunities to obtain useful gear.
The additional 100% MF increases the drop rates of Unique and Set items, but it has no effect on the drop rates of high Diablo 2 Resurrected runes or Runeword bases. Nevertheless, it is still a welcome bonus during the early stages of progression.
Hell Bovine Minions
The final interesting change is that whenever you kill a monster, there is a rare chance for it to be resurrected as a Hell Bovine Minion. This effect is available in all difficulty levels.
Overall, this is a rather interesting, if somewhat unusual, event, especially considering that it coincides with the start of the new Ladder season. If you were hoping for a traditional Ladder experience focused solely on exploring the new gear, the first six days will offer a very different environment.
However, if you want to remain competitive in Diablo 2 Resurrected Ladder Season 16, you will probably need to put in as much time as possible during these 6 days, as the advantages provided by this event are simply too significant to ignore.
