  For most players, Season 13 has been remarkably impressive, drawing many back to the game. However, it isn't without its flaws. If one were to be critical, there are indeed a few areas where Season 13 falls short.

  

  Worthwhile Changes

  Shared Stash and Item Stacking

  The addition of new Shared Stash tabs, along with the stacking function for gems, runes, and crafting materials, has been a widely praised change. Despite some limitations, it genuinely reduces the time spent managing your storage, allowing you to focus more on slaying demons and hunting for gear.

  That said, the developers could have gone further. Improvements such as raising the stacking limits, allowing tabs to be named, color-coded, and sorted, or simply providing even more tabs, would have been welcome.

  Loot Filter

  Introducing any form of loot filter is a positive move. It helps filter out roughly 90% of the unnecessary clutter on the ground. For instance, you can set it to hide gold piles under 5000 gold, arrows, bolts, minor potions, regular potions, and even Diablo 2 Resurrected Runes. The result is a much cleaner, less chaotic screen.

  It's worth noting that items filtered out don't display a text label, but they still exist in the game world; moving your cursor over them allows you to pick them up and use them as normal.

  Terror Zone Adjustments

  The rotation time for Terror Zones has now been reduced from one hour to thirty minutes. This is a welcome change. If you miss a favorable area, you only need to wait a short while before a high-quality zone - such as Durance of Hate or Secret Cow Level - becomes available again. This effectively alleviates players' fear of missing out.

  Another positive adjustment is that the developers have consolidated multiple smaller areas into larger, combined Terror Zones. Previously, a Terror Zone could be cleared in a minute, leaving players facing an hour of repetitive waiting. With these consolidations, each Terror Zone now offers richer content, and because the total number of zones has been reduced, each specific area cycles through more frequently. This is a clear benefit for players.

  Andariel in Terror Zones

  The adjustment to Terror Zone Andariel's drops was a positive change, even if most players might disagree. The impact of the nerf is minimal. She still drops every unique item in the game, with a drop rate comparable to Terror Zone Mephisto.

  Andariel's strengths lie in her straightforward route, short travel distance, and significant weakness to fire damage - qualities that Mephisto lacks. So even after the nerf, she remains a worthwhile target to farm. Players now have a choice between her and Mephisto.

  Worldstone Shard

  Worldstone Shard is an excellent mechanic because it returns agency to the player. You are free to decide when to use it, which area to apply it to, or whether to use it at all.

  Using a shard allows you to turn an entire act into a Terror Zone, letting you farm your preferred areas. This greatly enhances player autonomy, moving away from passively waiting for Terror Zone rotation.

  Designs Needing Improvement

  Loot Filter Logic

  The logic behind the loot filter feels counterintuitive. In the current system, if you want to hide a certain type of item and check two options, the system defaults to executing only the last command, resulting in one of the items not being hidden.

  Players must create workaround rules to navigate this logic, which is not intuitive and can even lead to accidentally hiding items they didn't intend to. The ideal design would be straightforward: when a player checks an item to hide, it is simply hidden.

  Warlock Class Balance

  Warlock in Diablo 2 Season 13 has brought a lot of enjoyment to many players. It is powerful and versatile, capable of standing shoulder-to-shoulder with other classes even when relying on unique items. However, its exceptional strength has left other classes unable to compete.

  Warlock can wield weapons normally requiring two hands with a single hand, allowing the other hand to hold a shield. This leads to a severe overflow in skill levels and attributes. While this does breathe new life into many overlooked two-handed weapons, the disruption to game balance is too significant.

  If one class can effortlessly dominate all content with virtually no cost or gear requirements, what purpose do the other classes serve? In the long run, this threatens the game's replayability. Warlock's skill potency clearly needs substantial reduction.

  Sunder Charm Acquisition

  The method for obtaining Sunder Charms may be one of Season 13's most flawed designs. Firstly, it is entirely tied to Terror Zones and Heralds within them. This means players must adhere to the server's schedule, farming areas they may not enjoy.

  While Worldstone Shard allows you to customize a Terror Zone, the process remains riddled with uncertainty:

  • The randomness of Worldstone Shard drops.
  • The randomness of Herald spawns (they do not appear frequently).
  • The randomness of Herald levels (only Heralds of level 4 or 5 have a chance to drop the charm).
  • The randomness of the charm drop itself.

  With so many layers of randomness, obtaining a Sunder Charm becomes exceptionally difficult. In a game where most top-tier items have multiple acquisition paths, Sunder Charm clearly contradicts the game's design philosophy.

  Character Transfer Mechanics

  The mechanism for transferring Ladder Characters is also problematic. Players can directly transfer a seasonal character that is not from Reign of the Warlock expansion, creating opportunities for bots and automated farming operations.

  More importantly, transferred characters bring along items from older versions, which can lead to confusion and deception in trading. It would be better to prohibit direct transfer of seasonal characters into Reign of the Warlock expansion; if players want to engage with the new content, they should create a new character.

  Diablo 2 is considered by many players to be a perfect game, and anything added to perfection can make it worse. However, D2R Season 13 has improved the game, as soon as problematic issues like class balance and Sunder Charm drop mechanics need to be addressed promptly.
