ARC Raiders Patch 1.17.0 Hurricane Survival Guide in Rust Belt | The Shield Trick Most Players Ignore

ARC Raiders Patch 1.17.0 Shrouded Sky update brings hurricanes to Rust Belt, which are as daunting as Cold Snap, with flying debris and extremely low visibility making them even more challenging than Night Raid.
Many players are terrified of Rust Belt under hurricane conditions, preferring to forgo the map's rich loot rather than face such a harsh challenge. But is it really as difficult as we imagine? Here are some tips to help you survive the hurricane better.

Shield Mechanism in Hurricanes
Foremost, the most important thing to know is that your shield will continuously take damage in a hurricane. As you can see, it will begin to degrade as you run through the storm with your shield. While the damage per hit is low, it will continuously drain your shield's energy until it's completely depleted, while also wearing down its durability.
Therefore, the advice here is: Remove your shield to conserve its durability. In a game, the worst thing that can happen is having your shield broken. However, be aware that your shield needs to be fully recharged after you remove it. You can't expect it to automatically recharge and be put back on, and you must allow it to complete the entire recharge process.
Removing Shield
You might worry that removing your shield will make you vulnerable, but in reality, it makes you extremely difficult to spot in a storm. When you have your shield equipped, it glows with a blue light, which might not be noticeable in a normal match, but in a storm, you'll become very visible.
While hurricanes reduce visibility, the blue glow of the shield is still very conspicuous. Some ratters will observe the blue light moving through a hurricane and then silently approach to launch a well-prepared ambush.
When you remove your shield, your movement in a hurricane is essentially invisible due to the low visibility. However, remember that if you do get into a firefight, you won't receive the damage reduction it provides because you're not wearing a shield, and you need to weigh this.
Shield Recharge
Normally, you can't recharge your shield in a hurricane, but you can still regenerate health. If you're inside a building or tunnel, you can quickly recharge your shield.
First, you need to understand that in ARC Raiders, shields don't absorb damage independently of health, and they directly reduce the damage you take from your health. Therefore, you must maintain a healthy health level and constantly monitor your shield's current status.
However, there's an exception: if you're using Surge Shield Recharger, it can recharge you even in a storm. While this consumes more resources, you can use it to move safely in a hurricane.
Of course, you can also remove your shield and use adrenaline and bandages to move quickly downwind in the hurricane, then re-equip and recharge it indoors.
Utilizing Wind Direction
Hurricanes are mostly obstacles, but they're not only active in hurricanes, and ARC is also involved. The winds are extremely strong in hurricanes. Some small aerial units, such as ARC drones, will drift away or slow down depending on wind direction. This principle also applies to ground-based ARCs and yourself.
Therefore, when shooting at airborne Wasps or trying to dodge newly appearing Comet attacks, always utilize wind direction, and it can save your life in many situations.
When surrounded by Fireflies or several Wasps, a single rotor from one of them will blow them away, preventing them from charging at you against the wind. Similarly, consider this factor in your own actions. If you run against the wind, the wind will work against you, making you slower and consuming more stamina.
Running perpendicular to the storm's direction of movement is much faster than charging directly into it. If you choose to run in the same direction as the storm (i.e., away from the storm's center), your speed will double, and you'll gain a longer glide distance. This trick can help you move across the map more quickly.
Throwables
One point some players might not realize is that hurricanes affect all throwables, whether grenades or released gas. When you throw grenades, smoke grenades, or any other throwable item, they will be significantly affected by the storm's wind direction on the map.
First Wave Caches
This tip relates to loot. You need to keep an eye out for First Wave Caches. These caches are scattered throughout specific key areas of the map and only survive hurricane conditions. They contain some of the best loot in the game, such as ARC Raiders blueprints, legendary weapons, and more.
It's recommended to enable Night Mode, which lowers the volume and highlights subtle sounds, making it easier to hear the cache's notification sounds. Also, make sure your audio output device is set to Stereo Headphones, not the system default. These tweaks can significantly improve your loot-hunting efficiency.
Additionally, their spawn locations are fixed, and you can check guides for their specific locations. However, many people already know these potential spawn points, so competition around them will be fierce, with frequent PvP battles. If your gear and skills aren't up to par, the wisest course of action is to avoid these areas.
The map under Hurricane conditions is very interesting, and you'll need to adapt to drastically different tactics to find the most lucrative rewards. Hopefully, these tips will help you move freely in Hurricane mode and accumulate more resources.
