ARC Raiders Best Muzzle Attachment Compared: Compensator vs. Muzzle Brake | Which One Actually Wins?

Category: ARC Raiders Posted: Jan 15, 2026 Views: 5128

Before starting your ARC Raiders raids, to maximize your combat effectiveness, you must understand how different item types work to choose the most suitable gear configuration.

Therefore, besides choosing the right weapon for different situations, enhancing your gear by adding weapon modifications as attachments is equally important.

However, for game balance, each weapon has four attachment slots, and each slot can only equip one attachment, while each attachment type has more than one option. This raises the question: which modification is better among the same type?

Therefore, as modifications that can both be equipped in the muzzle slot, Compensator and Muzzle Brake remain a point of contention among players.

Next, we will compare and analyze these two attachments based on their actual performance in the game.

ARC Raiders Best Muzzle Attachment Compared: Compensator vs. Muzzle Brake | Which One Actually Wins?

What are Compensator and Muzzle Brake?

Not only are the usable slots the same, but these two attachments also share many other similarities: both have three tiers (each with the same rarity), and the number of coins from selling any tier of Compensator are same as Muzzle Brake.

Furthermore, both have a chance of appearing while scavenging. To obtain them through crafting, you need to unlock the corresponding ARC Raiders blueprints, and all other crafting materials are exactly the same:

  • Tier 1: 6x Metal Parts, 1x Wires (Gunsmith I)
  • Tier 2: 2x Mechanical Components, 4x Wires (Gunsmith II)
  • Tier 3: 2x Mod Components, 8x Wires (Gunsmith III)

However, their specific weapon bonuses differ significantly - of course, the principle that higher levels provide better effects still applies:

  • Compensator I: 20% Reduced Per-Shot Dispersion, 10% Reduced Max Shot Dispersion
  • Compensator II: 40% Reduced Per-Shot Dispersion, 20% Reduced Max Shot Dispersion
  • Compensator III: 60% Reduced Per-Shot Dispersion, 30% Reduced Max Shot Dispersion, 20% Increased Durability Burn Rate
  • Muzzle Brake I: 15% Reduced Vertical Recoil, 15% Reduced Horizontal Recoil
  • Muzzle Brake II: 20% Reduced Vertical Recoil, 20% Reduced Horizontal Recoil
  • Muzzle Brake III: 25% Reduced Vertical Recoil, 25% Reduced Horizontal Recoil, 20% Increased Durability Burn Rate

Compensator test

Reducing single-shot bullet spread and maximum bullet spread are the main effects of Compensator. It's important to explain that bullet spread refers to the deviation caused by the bullet's trajectory from the aiming center after being fired.

Compensator's effect on single-shot bullet spread is that it reduces the increase in spread for each shot. Furthermore, each weapon has a maximum bullet spread, and Compensator can reduce this value.

This means that Compensator can improve the performance of sustained firearms, especially during prolonged firing. Currently, most ARC Raiders can benefit from this improvement, including the highly popular Stitcher, Bobcat, and more.

In short, if you want to increase rate of fire while maintaining accuracy, Compensator is the preferred choice - the higher the level, the better.

Muzzle Brake test

The main effect of this attachment type is to simultaneously reduce both horizontal and vertical recoil. Recoil refers to the force that propels the bullet forward when it fires, which also reacts on you, potentially affecting the shooting outcome.

Even if you can easily control vertical recoil, ARC Raiders' weapon settings make horizontal recoil difficult to control for most guns, such as Bobcat, Stitcher, or Arpeggio. This is where Muzzle Brake becomes particularly important.

Comparative test

Our sample was a Stitcher upgraded to level 4, which we tested with Compensator III and Muzzle Brake III, respectively.

With Compensator III only, once maximum bullet spread is reached, although Compensator's accuracy shortcomings begin to appear (greater recoil), the result is predictable: the bullets fly directly upwards.

Therefore, you can control the shooting outcome by aiming downwards from the start. When equipped only with Muzzle Brake III, the bullet dispersion at the terminal stage is completely random and unpredictable.

In summary, Compensator reduces the unpredictable factors, while Muzzle Brake reduces the controllable factors. Therefore, unless you truly cannot master vertical recoil control, Compensator is the better choice.

Compensators' internal comparison

After tentatively concluding that Compensator is better through comprehensive comparison, you'll find that Tier 3 version of this attachment sacrifices some improvement in maximum bullet dispersion for a higher durability burn rate. Is it worth it?

Continuing with Stitcher as an example, in fact, against most enemy types, the difference between Compensator II and III is not significant, and the latter actually consumes more resources.

Therefore, unless you are facing a heavily armored, large ARC like Queen, there is absolutely no need to upgrade to Compensator III. In fact, the mismatch between gear rarity and strength is already a common problem among ARC Raiders.

Summary

Based on the current ARC Raiders mechanics and our testing results, Compensator almost always outperforms Muzzle Brake. You don't even need to consider crafting material consumption - it's exactly the same.

While Compensator's maximum level is three, level two is perfectly adequate. If you want to further upgrade your weapon, you can research the best combinations for other attachment slots, including underbarrel, magazine, and stock.

As the game continues to update, ARC Raiders may add more muzzle slot attachments through patches or new events. At that time, you can compare them with Compensator to determine the new winner!
