ARC Raiders Fossilized Lightning Guide: How To Get It During Electromagnetic Storms?

Category: ARC Raiders Posted: Dec 25, 2025 Views: 4011

After Cold Snap update for ARC Raiders, did you notice the introduction of a new item in the game? If you carefully read the official 1.7.0 patch notes, you might have seen the statement, "Lightning strikes sometimes leave behind a valuable item."

You might be wondering, what exactly is this lightning item? Don't worry, I'll explain its true identity, its function, and how to obtain it.

ARC Raiders Fossilized Lightning Guide: How To Get It During Electromagnetic Storms?

What Exactly Is It?

Based on our recent discoveries in the game, this lightning item is actually called Fossilized Lightning, an Epic item.

Its design is inspired by a real-world natural phenomenon called fulgurite or petrified lightning. When lightning strikes soil, sand, rocks, or other sediments on the ground, it melts them, forming natural clumps of glassy pyroxene, much like fossils.

The studio drew inspiration from this concept during the design phase, simulating lightning strikes during Electromagnetic Storm event in ARC Raiders. However, just like in real life, fulgurite is extremely rare, making Fossilized Lightning a very rare drop in the game.

Here are the specific details for Fossilized Lightning in the game:

  • Rarity: Epic
  • Type: Nature
  • Price: 4,000 (Credits)
  • Spawn Condition: Electromagnetic Storm

How To Obtain It?

To obtain Fossilized Lightning in ARC Raiders, you must focus on raids activated by Electromagnetic Storm map modifier. During these raids, lightning strikes will frequently occur on the map, and this is the only way to obtain the item.

The game provides a hint on how to detect the lightning phenomenon: an electromagnetic field will appear around the target area before the lightning strikes it. However, don't foolishly stay in the target area, as you also risk being struck by lightning. Therefore, it's best to initially observe and take cover near the target area. After the lightning strike ends, quickly head to the target area to check for Fossilized Lightning.

In general, this item only has a chance to drop during Electromagnetic Storms. Observe the lightning strikes in the sky; the ground will be marked after a lightning strike. Quickly head to the target location to check for glowing loot spawn points.

Also, this new Epic resource has a very low drop rate; it doesn't spawn with every lightning strike. Based on previous game experience, the drop rate is likely below 10%-15%, so patience and repeated raids are key to obtaining it.

Electromagnetic Storm Analysis

Electromagnetic Storm, as a map modification state, will fill the map with lightning strikes and generate more ARC Probes and ARC Couriers than usual, which are also good sources of loot.

Most importantly, many Raider Hatches are closed during this period, drastically reducing the number of extraction points. You need to plan your safe extraction route in advance. During an Electromagnetic Storm, map difficulty increases significantly, but the quality of loot also improves, with a chance to obtain more blueprints - meaning high risk, high reward.

Therefore, you must be extremely careful when pursuing Fossilized Lightning, and also be aware of other raiders attacking during this period. After obtaining the items you want, retreat as quickly as possible to avoid conflict, because if you unfortunately die, all your efforts will be wasted.

Obtain Tips

Although the drop rate of Fossilized Lightning is low, you can still make the process easier with some techniques:

  • Plan your movement routes carefully: Choose maps that allow for quick access to the attack area, as the drop duration is limited;
  • Utilize equipment to increase movement speed: Every second after the attack ends is crucial, so prepare items and equipment that can increase speed in advance;
  • Wear headphones and listen carefully: If you hear the sound of lightning near the map, immediately go and investigate;
  • Pay special attention to maps where Electromagnetic Storms occur frequently, such as Dam Battlegrounds and Spaceport.
  • Bring your teammates: Lightning strikes during Electromagnetic Storms are dangerous, and having team support can help you avoid danger while chasing down falling debris.

What's Its Use?

This Epic item was only recently introduced to the game, and currently seems to have no special function other than being a collectible. You can recycle it for 3 Explosive Components, or list it on the trading platform for 4000 ARC Raiders Credits, a fairly substantial return.

You can use the earned Credits to exchange for ARC Raiders items you currently need at Raider Deck or with the trader NPC in the game. The recycled Explosive Components can be used to craft explosives or Traps.

However, I think that although the game doesn't explicitly state the use of Fossilized Lightning, the developers wouldn't introduce a useless item without a reason. Perhaps it will come in handy in later missions or events.

Furthermore, considering the scarcity of Fossilized Lightning and its explosive properties, it's reasonable to speculate that it might be used as a raw material in future Blueprints.

Whether you're collecting it or trading it for other items, if you're lucky enough to obtain Fossilized Lightning in the game, it's advisable to keep it for now and observe its potential usefulness later on.
