AION 2 before Global Launch: How to Use Launch Scale Test to Find the Right Class for You?

AION 2 is entering a critical phase leading up to its global launch. Launch Scale Test (LST) will open on September 17 and 18, allowing players to experience the global version's actual combat feel, class mechanics, and server performance firsthand. If you plan to participate in the LST, this test offers more than just a preview of whether the game is worth playing; it is also a low-risk opportunity to familiarize yourself with classes and determine which combat style suits you best.

Careful consideration of your class choice is essential because, in AION 2, classes are strictly tied to specific weapon types, and the developers have intentionally made the cost of developing alt characters high. This means your initial class choice largely dictates the gameplay experience for your entire account. This article analyzes the eight classes available at the global launch to help you find the one that best matches your playstyle and preferred game pace.

AION 2 before Global Launch: How to Use Launch Scale Test to Find the Right Class for You?

Melee Classes: Gladiator and Templar

Gladiator

Aion 2 Gladiator

The Gladiator wields a greatsword and wears plate armor, occupying a role somewhere between a tank and a DPS. Their core damage rotation includes Crushing Wave and Frenzied Wave for clearing groups of enemies (AoE), while Blade Dance helps handle situations where they are surrounded.

This class is beginner-friendly primarily due to its blood absorption mechanic - dealing damage restores health, ensuring that accidental pulls don't prove fatal. With 52 skills, plate armor, and a large health pool, Gladiator can even serve as a backup tank if the party lacks a dedicated one. If you are completely unsure what to play, the Gladiator is the safest initial choice.

Templar

Aion 2 Templar

Templar wields a one-handed longsword and shield, serving as AION 2's only dedicated tank class. Their 41 skills are almost entirely focused on a single goal: keeping the boss's aggro locked on themselves to protect their teammates.

Core skills include Vicious Strike for steadily building aggro, Provoke to force the target's attention onto themselves, and Doom Shield, which provides crucial defense against high-damage boss attacks.

Templar excels in survivability and has a clear team role, but this comes at the cost of limited damage output and slower leveling speed during solo play. Success with this class relies on understanding boss mechanics, aggro management, and defensive skill cooldowns. It is best suited for players willing to actively soak up damage, observe combat mechanics, and deploy the right defensive skills at critical moments.

Healing and Support: Cleric and Chanter

Cleric

Aion 2 Cleric

Cleric wields a mace and is the only irreplaceable class in a dungeon party - solely because only Cleric possesses the ability to resurrect fallen allies.

Their healing toolkit encompasses direct healing, heal-over-time (HoT) effects, and team support: Healing Light quickly restores the health of allies with low HP; Radiant Recovery heals while simultaneously cleansing certain negative effects; and Blessing of Regeneration provides sustained healing.

However, they are not confined to the backline. Clerics also possess a Battle Priest aspect, allowing them to contribute damage when healing demands are low. Earth's Retribution deals damage while restoring the caster's mana, and Judgment Thunder delivers area-of-effect (AoE) damage.

Cleric's core value lies in reliable team healing and resurrection capabilities. Players must constantly monitor allies' health, their own positioning, and skill cooldowns. While this makes the class challenging to master, it also makes them the most sought-after members for any party.

Chanter

Aion 2 Chanter

Chanter is a hybrid class in AION 2 that combines damage dealing, support, and healing capabilities, wielding a staff. Unlike Cleric, whose focus is primarily on healing, Chanter emphasizes frontline combat and provides continuous team buffs through Mantras.

Chanter possesses a complete melee combo chain, utilizing skills such as Onslaught, Resonance Crush, Impactful Crush, and Crushing Blow to maintain a steady damage output. Meanwhile, Sprint Mantra and Undefeated Mantra provide ongoing buffs to the party, allowing Chanter to create value for the team even without acting as the primary healer.

This versatile role grants Chanter solid soloing capabilities while allowing them to adapt to a wide range of group scenarios.

Physical and Magical Damage: Ranger and Sorcerer

Ranger

Aion 2 Ranger

Ranger wields a bow and serves as a ranged physical damage dealer. The class's core gameplay revolves not merely around maintaining a damage rotation, but - more importantly - using movement and crowd control to keep an optimal distance from enemies. Snipe serves as a high-damage opener; Rapid Fire and Spiral Arrow handle sustained damage; and Explosion Trap and Snare Trap allow Ranger to utilize terrain and traps to restrict enemy movement.

When faced with melee enemies attempting to close the gap, Ranger can use skills like Snare Shot and Shackling Arrow to create distance, while employing Stealth to find more advantageous firing positions. In essence, Ranger's survival relies heavily on effective distance management.

Sorcerer

Aion 2 Sorcerer

Sorcerer wields a spellbook and is designed as a pure magic damage dealer. Its core gameplay revolves around two elements: Fire and Ice. Fire skills - such as Firebomb, Firestorm, Blaze, and Hellfire - focus on sustained damage and burst potential, wearing down enemy health through burning effects. Ice skills - including Ice Chain, Cold Snap, Winter Shackles, and Soul Freeze - emphasize crowd control, offering effects like slowing, rooting, and freezing.

Most of Sorcerer's skills are instant-cast, allowing for damage output while moving. However, the class has the lowest defense of all; Arctic Armor offers only limited protection in critical moments. It is a high-skill-ceiling, low-margin-for-error class: mastering positioning, crowd control, and skill timing unlocks immense damage potential, but poor positioning combined with low survivability can easily render the player ineffective.

Therefore, if you choose Sorcerer as your main class, you need to pay more attention to investing resources such as Aion 2 Kinah in equipment and character progression to compensate for the class's low margin for error.

Summoning and Stealth: Spiritmaster and Assassin

Spiritmaster

Aion 2 Spiritmaster

Spiritmaster wields an orb, with core gameplay centered on summoning and DoT effects. The class can summon elemental spirits of various attributes - Fire, Water, Wind, and Earth - to assist in combat and draw enemy aggro, creating a safer environment for the player to deal damage.

While summons hold the enemy's attention, Spiritmaster applies DoT effects using skills like Cold Shock, Earth Tremor, and Combustion, while recovering health via Siphon. Skills such as Souls Cry and Ashy Call provide crowd control, proving highly effective when facing multiple opponents.

Spiritmaster's strengths shine particularly in solo play: summons share the burden of incoming damage and enemy pressure, allowing the player to sustain combat without relying on teammates.

Assassin

Aion 2 Assassin

Assassin wields daggers and is a stealth-based melee damage dealer; gameplay revolves around approaching via stealth, unleashing burst damage from behind, and making a quick escape. Upon entering Concealment, Assassin can initiate attacks with Ambush or Shadow Strike, deal burst damage using skills like Quick Slice and Flash Slice, and utilize Shadow Step or Smoke Bomb to reposition or disengage from combat.

A defining characteristic of Assassin is the critical importance of positioning. Some of the class's attacks must be launched from the target's flank or rear, requiring players to constantly monitor the boss's or enemy's orientation and maintain their offensive output from specific positions.

At the same time, the class has limited innate defense and a low margin for error; it relies heavily on dodging, repositioning, and disengage skills when facing high-damage abilities. A single misstep, a poorly timed dodge, or even network lag can interrupt a planned burst rotation or land the player in immediate danger.

Consequently, Assassin is a melee class characterized by high mobility, high burst damage, and demanding mechanical skill. Players new to AION 2 will need to invest time in mastering combat mechanics, dodge timing, and positioning. However, if you are willing to tackle the steeper learning curve, the class offers a distinctive, authentic assassin-style combat experience.

Overall, each of the eight classes has a clearly defined combat role, and there is no single best choice; what truly matters is finding a class that aligns with your playstyle and preferred game pace. Launch Scale Test beginning on September 17 offers a low-stakes opportunity to experiment; it is well worth trying out a few classes that interest you to get a feel for the actual combat mechanics before deciding on your main class for the global launch.
