CoD Black Ops II suffered a serious hacker-related security issue in mid-July, causing many players to receive bans. The official team has now urgently released an update announcement to address and fix the problem.

Affected accounts were directly boosted to 16th Prestige, far beyond normal progression. Some players had their account progression completely locked, preventing them from earning experience or unlocking content. The only way to recover was to manually reset all statistics.

Other players were forced to unlock every weapon, attachment, and skin. Although their accounts were not completely unusable, their gameplay experience was still heavily disrupted.

The attackers were active across multiple popular modes, including Nuketown, Domination, and Team Deathmatch. These modes cover most of the ways players usually enjoy the game, causing a large number of players to have their normal experience ruined.

Official Response

After the issue escalated, the official team quickly released a formal statement and introduced two major backend updates.

The official team has deployed a Black Ops 2 PS4/PS5 backend update to improve matchmaking security and is reviewing accounts affected by abnormal Prestige levels.

This means that accounts forcibly raised to 16th Prestige through hacker activity will be restored to their normal states within the following days. The official team stated that this measure is intended to remove illegally modified data and restore fair gameplay.

Temporary Ban

During the recovery process, some players may briefly see a message stating that their account has been banned after leaving a match.

The official team specifically clarified that this is a side effect caused by the legacy systems of the old version while updating account data, and it does not mean that the account has actually received a ban penalty. The system is only using this method to identify and correct abnormal data.

For example, if an account has only a few hours of playtime but has already reached 16th Prestige and unlocked all content, the system will recognize the data as abnormal and trigger a temporary warning. Players only need to reconnect to complete the correction process and do not need to worry about being falsely banned.

Banned Accounts

According to the official explanation, affected accounts will have one of two outcomes:

Able to Reconnect

If players can successfully reconnect to the game after receiving the warning, it means their account data has been corrected and no further action is required.

Unable to Reconnect

If players cannot reconnect, it means the system has determined that the account intentionally obtained unauthorized Prestige levels through illegal methods or violated the terms of service, such as through account manipulation. These accounts may face actual ban measures.

Affected Accounts Without a Ban

The most complicated situation currently involves players who received full unlocks due to the attack but whose accounts are still usable. Many of them are worried that manually resetting their accounts could erase legitimate progress.

If you are not in a hurry to play, it is recommended that you temporarily avoid logging into Black Ops II. Waiting for the official automatic correction process allows the system to restore your account to the state it was in before the attack, preserving your previous legitimate progress.

If you have a long-standing Legacy Account connected to multiple generations of Call of Duty titles and this is your first time experiencing Black Ops II on PS4, you may consider manually resetting your statistics if you are concerned about possible risks spreading to your account.

However, keep in mind that this operation will also remove all legitimately unlocked content, and the official team has not confirmed that manually resetting statistics can prevent a ban.

Play Carefully

However, this backend update is only the first emergency response from the official team against current modding tools and cheating issues. It is not considered a complete solution.

Currently, mod menus and cheat programs can still operate on servers, and the official team has not fully eliminated their activity. The method for gaining experience boosts in this WoW Midsummer Fire Festival is similar to Vanilla: click on Ribbon Pole in the main city and dance around it to accumulate a 10% experience boost, lasting up to one hour.

Stealth classes like Rogues or Druids can complete this relatively easily, while Warriors, Paladins, and other classes need to rely on teammates for cover or choose off-peak hours on the server to infiltrate.

This quest can be completed once in each of the four enemy capital cities, rewarding you with WoW Gold, Burning Blossoms, and powerful Consumables each time.

Based on multiple attempts in WoW, when Alliance steals Orgrimmar's flame, the route from Cleft of Shadow towards Forge is relatively safe; for Horde infiltrating Stormwind City, it's recommended to detour through Canal District to Dwarven District.

Even if you fail, Soul Weakness status won't cause lasting damage, making it worth trying.

Quests and Rewards

Lord Ahune's summoning process begins with a quest chain in the major city, requiring players to travel to the old world to investigate the plot of Twilight's Hammer members, and then enter Slave Pens instance.

This boss can only be summoned once per day, a limitation that has become the most contentious aspect of team coordination.

Experience shows that most teams, after forming, default to a five-kill streak, with each member taking turns using their daily summoning privileges.

Joining a team after consuming one's personal summoning privileges, or leaving the team before someone else has contributed a summon, will be considered a breach of the team contract. It is recommended to proactively state your summoning status before joining a team, or form a team yourself and clearly define the rules.

Rewards and Shops

The stats of cloaks dropped from WoW are improved compared to cloaks dropped from Vanilla, by approximately 10%. Whether other equipment has been adjusted accordingly requires further verification with more samples.

Lord Ahune's loot list includes Caster Cloak, Physical Cloak, and Tank Cloak, all optional supplements for their respective slots.

Burning Blossoms shop offers Transmog, Consumerables, and a pet. Consumerables are useful in Arena or Battleground.

Considering the event lasts two weeks, consistently killing bosses and completing daily quests daily is sufficient to obtain the necessary items.
