WoW TBC Classic Anniversary Phase 3 is now officially live, bringing a large amount of new content to the game. For many players, Phase 3 is one of the most beloved parts of The Burning Crusade.
If you want to enjoy the new phase to the fullest, you need to understand what changes the official team has made to Phase 3. In fact, these changes are quite significant, covering areas such as item drops, the in-game economy, and PvP. The information below should help you make thorough preparations.

Mount Hyjal and Black Temple
Mount Hyjal is located inside Caverns of Time in Tanaris. Its encounters revolve around clearing waves of enemies, and you will obtain your Tier 6 helmet and gloves here.
Black Temple, located in Shadowmoon Valley, is the true centerpiece. The raid contains nine bosses, with the legendary Illidan Stormrage serving as the final encounter.
Black Temple drops your Tier 6 chest, shoulders, and legs, along with iconic loot such as Warglaives of Azzinoth.
Additional Loot Drops
Although these changes did not appear on PTR, the official team later confirmed adjustments to raid loot. They confirmed that additional Tier pieces would once again be added to the loot tables of certain bosses, although no mention was made of additional drops for non-set bosses.
The official team also clarified exactly what the changes to Heroic Dungeon boss loot in Phase 3 mean.
There had been widespread speculation that this could mean items such as Dragonspine Trophy would be added to Heroic Dungeons or Badge of Justice vendor, but that is not the case. The change is limited to Heroic Dungeon bosses now having a guaranteed chance to drop Epic-quality gems.
Overall, the development effort invested into WoW BCC Anniversary appears to have been relatively limited. That may be acceptable in itself, as the team could be putting most of its resources into the upcoming WoW Classic+.
Phase 3 Attunement
Before entering Mount Hyjal raid, you need to complete Vials of Eternity questline. This requires defeating Lady Vashj in SSC and Kael'thas Sunstrider in TK.
To enter Black Temple, you need to complete the full Akama questline. This means defeating Al'ar in Tempest Keep, completing multiple steps in Akama's Promise quest chain in Shadowmoon Valley, and completing the required steps after defeating Rage Winterchill in Mount Hyjal.
This means you must clear Mount Hyjal before you can enter Black Temple. The official team has also confirmed that once the new raids open, the attunement quests for Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep will no longer be required.
Players can directly challenge Lady Vashj and Kael'thas to begin Black Temple quest chain. If you have only just started playing The Burning Crusade, once the new phase goes live, you can directly enter Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep to begin your Black Temple attunement chain. This is undoubtedly an excellent change.
Also note that in WoW TBC Classic Anniversary, all quest chains are shared across your Battle.net account, so you only need to complete them once, and all of your characters will gain raid access.
New Reputations
The following three factions already existed in the original TBC, but they will only become available as part of Phase 3.
Scale of the Sands
This reputation increases naturally by killing enemies inside Mount Hyjal. Raising this reputation allows you to obtain powerful Epic-quality rings whose stats improve with your reputation level, and they are often considered BiS choices for various classes. In addition, all of the new Jewelcrafting gem recipes require this reputation to unlock.
Ashtongue Deathsworn
This reputation is increased by killing enemies inside Black Temple. It is required for learning the recipes for crafting Shadow Resistance gear. Once you reach Exalted, you will also receive a class-specific trinket.
Netherwing
This faction is located at Netherwing Ledge in southeastern Shadowmoon Valley. It provides access to the iconic Netherdrake Epic flying mounts.
To begin the questline, make sure you already have Epic flying training, as both the main daily quest chain and collecting Netherwing Eggs require it.
Mark of the Illidari

Mark of the Illidari is extremely important for raid consumables because these marks can be exchanged for powerful combat-enhancing items.
On PTR, they were confirmed to be exchangeable for Destruction Potions and Haste Potions. This is particularly significant because these are among the most costly consumables in the game.
Mark of the Illidari drops from Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep, Black Temple, and Mount Hyjal. You need to reach Exalted reputation with either Aldor or Scryers, as well as the Sha'tar and Cenarion Expedition, to obtain these consumables from their respective quartermasters.
Professions and Gold Economy
The gold economy will undergo a major transformation in Phase 3 because Epic-quality gems are being introduced into the game.
If you are a miner with the maximum 375 Mining skill, you can directly mine Epic gems from ore deposits inside Mount Hyjal.
They can also appear as rare drops in Black Temple. Jewelcrafters can obtain the new Epic gem cutting recipes through Scale of the Sands reputation.
If you want to earn gold or optimize your gear to the highest possible level, these Epic gems are certain to command a significant premium on the auction house during the early stages of the phase, making this an excellent opportunity for gold-making. If earning WoW TBC gold is your only goal, it may even be worth temporarily switching to Mining.
PvP Updates
For PvP enthusiasts, Arena Season 3 will begin alongside the regular reset in each region.
Even if you are unable to achieve a high rating during Season 3, this phase also introduces important catch-up mechanics. Season 2 Merciless Gladiator gear will be available at a significant discount, with no Arena rating requirement.
Season 1 Gladiator gear can now be exchanged for Honor and Battleground Marks in major cities. Being able to obtain Gladiator gear with Honor is obviously extremely beneficial for alts. In addition, new Epic-quality PvP off-pieces will become available through Honor and Marks when the new season begins, and some of them offer extremely strong stats.
These are some of the major changes coming with WoW TBC Phase 3, which is arguably the peak of the entire TBC experience. Make sure to complete your quest chains, prepare your Shadow Resistance gear, and get ready to challenge Illidan.
