Pre-Patch Boosting Still Works in WoW TBC Classic Anniversary | This Is How Your Mage Should Do It

In the pre-patch for WoW TBC Classic Anniversary, the official team had already implemented anti-boosting measures to curb rampant boosting.
However, in reality, mage boosting services remained active in the pre-patch. Players, through clever techniques and teamwork, successfully continued to efficiently boost in multiple dungeons. This further enhanced the mage's ability to earn gold. Let's look at how it works and the specific methods.

How to Deal With Anti-boosting Mechanism?
First, it should be stated that boosting services are very likely to result in account bans. This technique is more for leveling up alts with a high-level character or earning gold.
To understand how to bypass the anti-boosting mechanism, we first need to understand how this mechanism works. The official anti-boosting mechanism has multiple layers.
- Level Difference: Two players with significantly different levels teaming up will reduce the monster's XP, making it almost impossible for the lower-level character to gain XP.
- Damage Calculation: If all the damage from monsters comes from the same player, then the anti-boosting mechanism will also be triggered.
Due to the excessive number of mages using power leveling services, the developers have implemented an anti-power leveling mechanism specifically for mages.
Monsters will become increasingly stronger as the battle progresses. They will become immune to slowing effects, and after about one minute, each of their attacks will ignore the mage's shield and stun them.
Aside from XP reduction due to level differences, other mechanisms can currently be bypassed. For mage characters, this immunity effect usually triggers about 40 seconds after the mage applies a slowing skill to a group of monsters.
However, this mechanism has a critical loophole: monsters are only immune to slowing effects and are still affected by control effects such as freeze, stun, and confusion. Based on this, you have the following countermeasures:
- Use high spell damage to quickly eliminate monsters before the 40-second immunity triggers.
- Once the monsters become immune to slowing effects, use the water elemental's freeze skill or the mage's own Frost Nova to regain control of the monsters.
- Two mages can take turns using control skills and the water elemental to create seamless control.
- For monsters that can cast spells, you can interrupt their casting by using line of sight.
This strategy works as long as your mage reaches level 60 and has decent gear. The mage simply pulls the mobs and then deals damage as described above. The other character needs to cast spells periodically to avoid triggering the anti-boosting mechanic.
Boosting Locations
In the pre-patch, classic boosting locations are still viable, but the techniques need to be adjusted for the new mechanics.
Stratholme
Stratholme can use a standard two-mage pulling strategy. One mage gathers a large number of mobs and uses Ice Block, while the other mage safely casts Blizzard during Ice Block's duration. Once the mobs become immune to slows, use Freeze spells of two Water Elementals and alternating Frost Nova to maintain control until the mobs are defeated.
The pulling mage can use low-threat skills like Rank 1 Blizzard, Wand attack, or Fire Blast to attract large groups of mobs without having to run directly into them. Even for two level 60 players, this method provides a considerable amount of experience.
Zul'Farrak Boosting
Boosting here requires returning to the classic Cone of Cold kiting technique. Since Blizzard boosting method has been fixed, single-target Cone of Cold kiting is back in vogue. You need to use Cone of Cold, Frost Nova, and Arcane Explosion for kiting, and even after the monsters become immune to slows, you can still control them with Freeze.
This method doesn't require high-end gear; even in Classic WoW, mages with average gear could successfully implement it, and mages could even earn WoW TBC Classic Anniversary gold using this method while leveling.
Boosting in TBC Anniversary
Boosting is also possible in higher-level raids in TBC, but it demands higher-level gear and better teamwork from the mages.
Shadow Labyrinth Boosting
You apply Stratholme dual-mage tactic to Shadow Labyrinth. Because the monsters here are stronger, more precise coordination is needed.
Once both mages are in position, one starts pulling the monsters, using Ice Block after grouping them together, and the other mage immediately takes over by casting Blizzard. You need to closely monitor the slow immunity countdown on the monsters. Once the immunity triggers, immediately cast Frost Nova or summon a water elemental to freeze them.
By alternating skill cooldowns and properly distributing Water elementals between the two mages, you can maintain continuous control.
When facing spellcasting monsters like Dark Adept, the mage pulling the monster can intentionally lead it to a corner or behind a pillar, using line-of-sight technique to prevent it from casting, while the other mage adjusts the angle of Blizzard to attack.
Resetting Anti-Pushing Timer
This is a technique that could completely change the way mages boosting. When a monster is about to gain slow immunity, using Dragon's Breath or other skills with disorienting control effects seems to reset the 40-second timer.
The mage simply needs to kite the monster normally using Blizzard's slow during the boosting. When the timer is about to expire, approach the monster group, use Water Elemental to freeze or Frost Nova to immobilize them, and then immediately cast Dragon's Breath. After success, the monsters' immunity to slow effects is refreshed, allowing the mage to safely kite them again with Blizzard.
This new discovery allows mages to solo carry again and may make many carry locations viable again in The Burning Crusade expansion. You simply need to have both Improved Blizzard and Dragon's Breath talents in your mage talent tree, and master the timing and density of monster groups.
Since boosting is strictly prohibited by the official developers, you can use the above techniques to level up alts or have friends farm some gold, but it's best not to actually sell services to other players to avoid getting banned.
